No matter how dark the night, hope is reborn at dawn. It wasn’t just her marriage that crumbled in the wake of unspeakable tragedy, it was her entire life. Even though five years had passed since she lost Evan, Angelia White was still picking up the pieces. Getting involved in a cause she could pour her broken heart into was just another part of the healing process. The wounds were too fresh for … process.
The wounds were too fresh for Mark Lyon to keep his grip on reality. Everything he thought he knew and believed was obliterated when he lost Ashleigh, along with his heart. The only way he could pick up the pieces was to fight for a way to prevent any other parent from ever suffering such merciless pain.
Two heartbroken parents enduring the darkest of nights.
Two wounded souls waiting for the light at dawn.
Author’s Note: This book contains sensitive subject matter that may be upsetting to some readers.

The Light at Dawn by K. L. Montgomery is one story that I recommend you read. This is a new author for me. I have learned that Montgomery does an amazing job of building her characters so that the reader of her story can have a bond with them. I have taken the emotional journey with Angelia. As I was reading the story, I felt more like a sister with Angelia instead of someone just reading her story. This story is about love, loss and healing process. Mark feels like he has lost everyone and everything. He wanted to stop the horrible felling that a parent goes through if they lose a child. I advise having a box of tissues close while you read this story.
The reason why I read so much is because I love the feelings that I experience while doing so. I love chasing that emotion that will set me over the edge.
Let me just tell you that The Light at Dawn by K.L. Montgomery did JUST THAT. I went in completely and utterly blind. I didn’t know what to expect. And I was not ready for what this book would do to me as an individual, reader, or even woman. It took me a minute to have to gather all of emotions (which were scattered everywhere) and bottle them right up. But you know what, I’m okay with that. Because as an avid reader, it is exactly what I expect. I expect to bawl my eyes out, and let the snot run down my nose. I expect to get upset at either characters or their situations. I expect to get mad. I love those emotions is WHY I read.
I loved everything about this book. I am completely astounded by the author’s ability to create such a beautiful and believable world. I loved getting lost within the pages of this book. I don’t know how else to express all that this book made me FEEL without giving it away. Just know that it’s worth it! This will definitely be considered one of my all time favorite books.
The Light At Dawn by K. L. Montgomery. Wow! That sums up this book. It was a very emotional read but in a very good way. Its the story of Angelia White who suffers the worst trauma ever, the loss of a child in a school shooting. This in turn destroys her marriage. She survives due to her other 2 children and she starts working for stronger gun laws by leading rally’s and going on a public speaking tour. On one of the tours she meets Gun Rights Supporter Mark Lyon and they have an instant connection. Mark is divorced with a daughter Ashleigh who is his world until he suffers an unspeakable tragedy. The connection between Mark and Angelia won’t go away even though they live states apart! Will they be able to overcome the tragedies they have endured to make a long distance relationship work or will they be too scared to take the risk. This is a very emotional book dealing with child loss and school shootings but the writer handles it so well. Its a beautiful story.
I imagine it was hard to write about gun violence in America, especially in schools. It’s such a hard and sensitive topic and I commend Montgomery for taking it on in a way that was respectful of both sides while still trying to portray just how much of a problem it is in our schools.
Angelia is a mother of three, who has never really sided one way or the other with the issues of guns until she loses her youngest son Evan in a tragic incident at school. Angelia took the hurt and pain and became an advocate for her son, for other parents who lost their children but couldn’t find their voice, and so no other parents would have to go through the unimaginable heartache of losing a child. She travels the states, speaking on what has happened to her and her family so that Evan can have a voice.
Mark is a proud, single father, who supports the second amendment wholeheartedly, so much so that he is the Chapter President for the Texas Rifle Association. He’s headed out to the same gun control rally Angelia will be at. It isn’t until after the rally that they spot each other across the bar, both of them having a drink after what they each considered a successful day. They are immediately drawn to each other, even if she is from upstate NY and lives worlds apart from Texas, he is hooked, and she did drop him her number. But after learning Mark’s stance regarding guns, Angelia walks away.
The connection between them is strong, but they’re at opposite ends of the spectrum, and any sort of discussion could easily go South and turn ugly, quick, especially if they end up arguing their opinions. But Montgomery didn’t write the book that way, she didn’t choose one side or the other, and she was very respectful to both sides as she wrote. In what was probably an extremely hard choice, she was able to give Angelia and Mark common ground. What ultimately gets them talking again isn’t easy, but the doorway is open.
Can what they share be enough to bridge the gap?
Montgomery had warned there were going to be tears, and she wasn’t lying. I stopped counting after the 5th time because the tissues were piling up, so definitely have them handy when you start to read. Montgomery has done a superb job in writing The Light at Dawn, which has such a beautiful meaning. From the characters to the situations, this book is well thought out, it’s meaningful, and touches on something you don’t often read about. I applaud her courage in writing such a hard book. From touching, endearing, and heartbreaking, The Light at Dawn runs the full spectrum of emotions. Angelia and Mark are a wonderful duo and they really make the book shine. Wonderfully done!
The Light at Dawn was a heart wrenching and emotional 5+ star read.
I was pulled right in from the beginning. Angelia and her family go through a tragedy that no family ever wants to experience (Ugly cry moments started instantly). We watch her world come crumbling down around her. We jump ahead five years Angelia is now a single mom who is traveling around and speaking on gun violence.
Mark see’s Angelia at a bar and quickly gets pulled in by her. They end up having drinks and they discover they are both on opposite sides of the right to bare arms. Angelia quickly leaves but can’t get Mark out of her mind. A little time passes and things take a tragic turn for Mark and once again my ugly cry came out. Angelia reaches out to Mark about the tragedy she doesn’t realize it had affected his family directly, her message came at the right time for Mark.
Can these two help heal each other? Can they have a HEA?
There is so much more to this very emotional read. There are things that make you really think about your views on this serious subject and see both sides of the spectrum. These two came together in an unexpected way and helped each other through. I loved the ending, it couldn’t have been more perfect. Be prepared for some twists and turns, K. L. Montgomery does a great job of throwing some very unexpected things in to make the book even better. All of the secondary characters were great, I actually would love to see more from this couple and extended family. A MUST read for sure, have the kleenex handy.
The Light at Dawn by K.L. Montgomery is a stand alone contemporary novel. This book does contain sensitive subjects and you may need tissues to make it through but this book is worth it.
I don’t want to say too much about what happened in the book because I don’t want to give any of it away. It was seriously amazing. I didn’t really know what I was getting in to but I’ve read other books by K.L so I figured I’d give it a go. I got so much more than I bargained for and in an amazing way. It touched on a very tough subject and the debate surrounding that but didn’t shine a negative light on either side of the debate and is seriously thought provoking and very emotional. This book is the epitome of an emotional roller coaster. I’m not sure I’ve ever experienced so many things while reading a book. If I had a list of books that I could pretend I didn’t read so I could go back and read it for the first time again, this book would be on the list. This book should be on everyone’s to read list!
The Light at Dawn By KL Montgomery Is a book that will truly rip your heart out, tear it to shreds, stomp on it, and then slowly put it back together. This is the first book that I have read by this author and I was not prepared for all of the emotions that it would make me feel. I found myself crying, laughing, and wondering about the world around me. This book is about so much more than one story it is about grief, heartache, overcoming all of the obstacles that life may throw at you, and at the end of the day love.
This book will make you feel emotions that you didn’t know you could feel. I could not have chosen a better first book to read by this author than this one. While it does deal with sensitive issues the author does a brilliant job of making sure you have no idea where she stands on the issue itself. You can tell that the author did an immense amount of research and portrayed the differences In a very humane and compassionate way.
One of the key things that I feel the book shows that maybe it wasn’t intended Is something that I think is so needed in today’s society. This author showed that 2 people or 2 groups can be on opposite ends of an issue, but still care about each other, love each other, and continue to make the world a better place.
I could not put this book down from the time that I started it until the time that I finished it and I don’t believe that you will either. The one warning that I would give you Is to make sure that you have your box of tissues prepared.
The Light at Dawn is novel by K. L. Montgomery. This is my first novel by this author.
After a tragedy, Angelia is still trying to pick up the pieces of her life five years later. To cope, Angelia joins an organization.
Mark Lyon is also trying to find a way to keep moving after losing his daughter Ashleigh.
When the two meet, maybe it’s a time for them both to start to heal instead of only existing.
This was a really emotional book to read. I enjoyed it but it was hard to read. I imagine it would be even more so people who have children or have been in that situation.
I have read a few books by this author and this is by far my favorite and most memorable.
The love story between Mark and Angelia is unimaginable but it still works. I love that they are able to help each other move forward even if that wasn’t how the relationship initially was.
I look forward to the author’s next book.
The first thing you need to know is, have the tissues close by. The subject matter of this book will have you in tears frequently. This story may be a difficult read for some people as it deals with tragic events similar to things that have happened in real life and have been high profile in the news in recent years.
Even though this book does discuss politics to some degree, I am glad that the overall story did not focus on that. The story really is focused on two people who have experienced overwhelming loss and how life brings them together. Their grief is very real, you feel it as you read.
Intensely emotional. Superbly written.

5 stars
I haven’t read such an emotionally packed book in some time and this one is full of them all. This story is about a very sensitive subject that plagues our country and innocent young children.
I loved the character development and the opposing sides they were on made this even more real.
If you need a good cry with a great story along the way, as you’ll find yourself emotional throughout this read, this is the book to do it.
“With every Dawn, God shows us we have a brand-new chance, a fresh start.”
This is one of those books that will stick and flash in my head for a long time. From the first line to the very last, I was carried on a wave of emotion. The description of the sky brings it full circle and I will now be looking for the colors described.
The author has written a story that is so common in this day and age I’m afraid we’ve become a bit immune to the victim’s families. It is so complex in its emotions yet has such a simple message – Don’t give up because it does get better and you are NOT alone. Finding a new normal allows life to go on.
I am at a loss for words on this one – all I can say is that I recommend this book.
If there was every a book deserving more than 5 stars, The Light at Dawn by K.L. Montgomery beyond worthy of that recognition. This novel is more than a contemporary romance, it’s the embodiment of growth, healing and overall, love. K.L. Montgomery has written a compelling story that is emotionally raw down to its core touching on topics that are too real in today’s society. It goes beyond and digs deeper into how those events shape our lives and those of others. With Angelia and Mark, the reader is taken on a tragic journey while at the same time the light of dawn peaks through providing glimpses of something more. This story was so well written, that I couldn’t put the book down until I read every single word. Beautiful, full of soul, and so much more! K.L. Montgomery has outdone themselves in this latest novel.
A great read about heartbreak. Angelia’s world is turned upside down when her son Evan is killed by a shooter at school. Lost in grief she decides to tell Evans story at a conference on school shootings. Whilst on a conference, she meets Mark, a single father who has also lost somebody. Can two broken hearts become one and heal together?
A great read. Well developed plot. Well developed characters like Angelia struggling with her feelings but still standing up for herself or Mark harsh exterior but kind underneath. Great cast of supporting characters like the kind Emily or the sweet Jarren.
I loved the visual detail throughout the novel with the vivid sense of colour like the sunrise with its soft pinks and dark blues in simple beauty. Or the bright greens of the funeral against the coffin perfectly wirtten
Having it written in Angelia’s perspective was a good idea to display her journey through it all. The theme of loss was beautifully written as sad and sweet and emotive. Overall, a great read and o would give it five stars
The Light at Dawn by K.L Montgomery had me crying from the first chapter and full blown sobbing on and off all the way through. I did manage to smile a few times too. I had to force myself to put this book down just to get the emotions in check and rest my eyes from all of the tears.
Angelia has her heart ripped from her on a day in September and her life will never ever be the same. How she manages to continue to living is beyond me. I don’t know if I could do it if I were faced with what she is.
Mark experiences the same thing only five years later. His experience was harder for me to read without ugly sobbing because of it being his daughter and I am the mother of two girls, one of which is close to the same age.
This book is an absolute must read! I have read several other by Ms. Montgomery and I think this one will be a favorite of mine for a long time. An amazing story that hits all of the different emotions. Stock up on Kleenex before you start.
The Light at Dawn by K.L. Montgomery is an emotional rollercoaster that will consume you entirely. I knew the second I read the blurb that I would need to prepare myself going into this book. Tissues were at the ready and the wine was in hand and boy were both needed.
Everything about these characters and their journey sucked me in. I won’t say anything at all about the story because you really need to jump straight in and experience this all for yourself. But every single emotion, every single tear is worth it.
This book has easily made it to my ugly cry read list – the list that I know will tear out my heart but is worth it every step of the way. Everyone should give this book a try!

First things first.
A checklist to prepare yourself for reading this book!
-Tissues, and plenty of them. Trust me you are going to need them.
-A ready supply of Wine (or your preferred alcoholic drink), or something comforting like hot cocoa.
-A comfortable, quiet place to sit, and maybe a soft blanket and a cushion or two- because you are going to be there for a while as you won’t want to put this book down once you start.
-A friend on standby to call as you may need someone to talk to about the emotional battering you (will) receive.
….Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
The Light At Dawn by K.L Montgomery is a powerful, thought-provoking, heartbreaking, and incredibly emotive story that I am still thinking about long after finishing it. This is my favourite read of Ms. Montgomery’s- and ok, I know I say that about each new release she makes- but seriously- this book really is the top of the pile- it deserves wayyyyyy more than 5 stars!!! Truly it does!
I am at a loss to do this book the justice it deserves, without giving away any spoilers. You will understand my dilemma, once you start reading. Ms. Montgomery has managed to capture so much emotion in these pages, writing a deeply moving story that embodies her passion, creativity, blood, sweat, and tears. The attention to detail, and masterful, descriptive touches really brought the characters and story to life.
Yes, there is a lot of pain, despair, and heartache here- but was brilliantly balanced by the purpose, passion, and hope that is threaded through the storyline. Some parts are not easy to read- but it is worth every heartache and tear!
Bravissimo!!!
Thank you, Ms. Montgomery!

This is a story ripped from the headlines. Tragedy, shock and disbelief are what encompasses these characters. Figuring out how to move forward Is their new focus. This story enthralled me. The characters were a breath of fresh air and seemed very real. We are introduced to two families. They each get their own turn to tell their story. But The third section of the story is what I enjoyed the most. There is stress and sadness and a few OMGosh moments but there is also smiling, laughing and love. This story gave me chills and tears numerous times. But that’s what made me love it all the more! This author was able to convey, through her writing, all of the emotions and thoughts that these two (and their families) went through. I felt their turmoil and all the highs right along with them. OMG… that ending is so wonderful! I absolutely loved the way everything rounded out and again…..chills!
This is not my first book by this author but it is (in my opinion) her best work! It’s a hard story to tell but she was able to do it with class and style. I love it when a title fits the story and this one is perfection. Well done!
The Light at Dawn by KL Montgomery was unforgettable. A heart-breaking opening to what turned into a powerful novel. I was in tears in the first 5 minutes. It reminded me of a Nicholas Sparks novel, the language was so descriptive and emotive. I loved the characters of Angelia and Mark were so well thought-out, the reader could not help but identify and empathise with them.
Angelia is living a happy family life in upstate New York with husband Dean and three children Jarren, Riley and Evan. After a run-of-the-mill morning, something so unbelievable and unpredictable happens that will change their worlds forever.
Mark is a single father to Ashleigh, a promising swimming star, and is a fully paid member of the NRA. His world is blown apart in a single morning, never to be the same again.
When Angelia and Mark cross paths, neither can deny the attraction, but nor can they deny their differences in opinion.
The story is told from both their points of view and this is an intriguing way to find out what they are both feeling. I found this book a rollercoaster of emotions and liked the way Angelia and Mark’s strong opinions were upheld rather than criticised. Neither of them was wrong, they were entitled to their own beliefs.
The book covers a difficult subject matter which is treated thoughtfully and gently. This gentleness takes away none of the impact of the book. I absolutely loved it. I devoured it in 1 day and had to take a break from reading for a couple of days to get over the book hangover!
The Light at Dawn by K.L. Montgomery a five-star read that will light you from the inside. I have read a lot of stories by this author and this is by far one of my favourites, its just so deep and compelling that it will stay with you for such a long time. The one thing I love about this author is the way that she makes you think about the bigger picture as you read, makes you care for the characters in a way that just don’t normally. Even though I may not be a parent I have felt the loss of a child and this story was done so well that It made me sob my heart out in one breath and then smile in the next. This may not be one that everyone is able to read, but I am sure that those who do will devour it.

The Light at Dawn is a beautifully written, emotional, raw read that certainly evoked a lot of feelings from me. I think because the content for the storyline is so real, it is about things that have happened in real life and because of this I think it is easier for you to imagine what it must be like for the characters in those moments. I can’t say that I cried a lot during the book but it definitely made me emotional whilst reading it. I felt a real connection to the characters. Living in the UK I think it’s hard to ever imagine these things happening but sadly they do and it is definitely hard for me to understand being able to own a gun and the ease at which they can be purchased. I liked that the author took both sides of the argument and presented them in the story – it was definitely a very thought provoking story.
Alongside the storyline I really liked the characters, Angelia and Mark and cannot imagine the pain they suffered during this book. I enjoyed watching their friendship/relationship develop and overcoming the loss and sadness they go through.
The Light at Dawn is a story that will make you think, make you question what you think is right or wrong but it might also (like me) open your eyes to something that is very present in some countries and make you think about what may happen in the future.
