After reading The Life That Mattered, I was anxiously waiting on The Life You Stole coming out. I was just as captivated by this one as I was with the first book in this amazing duet. It’s just as intense and thrilling as its predecessor and I could not put it down. I stayed way up past my bedtime to finish it. It’s so twisted and enthralling, I just don’t know how to give this book justice with my review.
Picking up from when TLTM finished, TLYS just kept going. It’s an emotional rollercoaster with each of these couples. Jewel E Ann has given them life, fleshed them out and made us love them, or hate them. Or both sometimes. There is so much happening in this one book, it’s filled with all the feels and just so much more. This was heart-breaking and truly spectacular storytelling at its very best!!
Beautiful, haunting, tragic, and I loved every single, well placed word. This duet of books has, at its heart three wonderful souls and a tangled web of lives which have a history seen through a glass darkly as there is a snake in paradise . Ronin and Evie are such very special creations. Ronin’s empathetic ability is extreme in its consequences to his heart, mind and body. His belief in trying to do the right thing has an unimaginable toll on him and those he loves.
My heart was in my mouth almost all the way through this book. It held so much emotion, so much love, fear, manipulation, beauty and vulnerable hearts. This is a book which wraps itself around your very heart and does not let go until the last word and after. An absolutely first class read.
The Life you Stole is the conclusion of the Life that Mattered.
I finished this book days ago but was stunned speechless and unable to process my emotions. Yeah, this story is a masterpiece and I don’t say that lightly or flippantly. Jewel E. Ann takes on an adventure from the slops in Colorado to dredges of human scum, and it’s all-consuming soul searching emotional rollercoaster from the beginning to the end, there is so much turmoil that will leave you numb for days on end.
It’s early in the year but I would say this duet is a top read for 2020!
I was right to be terrified.
I didn’t expect any of this.
Holy intensity. The angst was upped.
I have never read a book like this. I can’t even explain any of it as not to spoil.
I just feel like my mind is jumbled.

ALL THE STARS!! OMG….OMG….OMG!! I am speechless and I had to remind myself to breathe while reading this book. I have no words… right now. The story picks up right where the first book stopped. Jewel E. Ann’s stories are always original and memorable, her words will touch every emotion buttons you have with all the feels. This is one duet I will never forget, her words will engrave themselves on your heart like a tattoo. You must read this duet….READ IT NOW!!
Yowzers, this one packs all of the punches! The Life You Stole picks right up from where The Life That Mattered ended. So many questions whirling in my head with hypothetical explanations. I needed the actual answers. And this sequel took me for a ride, because what is the actual truth? I was prepared for whatever rocky road Evelyn/Evie and Ronin would embark upon given the prologue of the previous book. Throw in Graham and Lila’s POV and holy moly, I wasn’t sure anymore what issue was the most serious or deceptive. There were so many lies, I fell for a few of them myself. But the truth wasn’t pretty (hence, the the need for the lies). I wanted to strangle some of the characters for keeping secrets, big secrets that could destroy once they came to light. I realized that this was their way of loving and protecting, but all of them are grown ups in their 40s – they should be adult enough to handle the bold reality, no matter how many downward spirals they had already experienced. Between the secrets, manipulation, lies and raw vulnerability, this book stripped everyone down to the bone. Whatever I was most worried about before really didn’t register on the scale of WTF and OMG compared to some of the other stuff that happened because the gravity of the issues at hand is life altering. Jewel Ann doesn’t spare anyone and there are reasons to hate several of them. But then layer the hate into the most vile to the least vile deeds, compounded with tragedy and heartbreak, and it’s a recipe ripe for devastation with no fingers left to point at anyone. My heart hurt for Evie because she remained steadfast and solid yet everything was unraveling around her. I’m not sure how I feel about Lila, she was both strong and weak, and she wasn’t there for Evie like a best friend ought to be, although she clearly had her plate full and was surviving in the only way she knew how. I was always leery of Graham and he still managed to surprise me anyway. As for Ronin, his rock bottom lead to his destruction even though there was never any doubt about his heart. So yes, this was a roller coaster of a mind bender and emotional turmoil. I think this story attests to Jewel’s ability as an author to make the reader feel so deeply about the characters, positive or negative or a mixture of both. I’m still thinking about all of their struggles with the imprint they all left behind days after I finished the conclusion. If you’re looking for a duet filled with anticipation, intensity, high octane emotion and will challenge your black & white opinions, this would be perfect for you.
My review will be simple. I’ll keep my emotions as compact as I can so as not to not give anything away. I lost sleep over this story. That alone should speak volumes. Make no mistake, Jewel E Ann knows how to pull all the emotions, even if they aren’t ones you really want to feel. She is a master at her craft. She deserves all the praise. Her writing is impeccable. Every. Single. Time. The problem I’m having is dealing with those emotions now that I’ve reached the end. Some were euphoric. Some tore me apart. But that is why she is so very good. And I guess not really a problem after all. Because isn’t that exactly what a story should do? I think so. This book, this duet, had me feeling and reeling with deep, soul touching emotions. So how do you review a book, a conclusion to a duet, when you aren’t sure which way to go or how to move on? I’ll leave it to you to draw your own conclusions. Read the duet. Experience the commanding writing of u202aJewelu202c E Ann. You will not regret it.
Have you ever read a book that caused you to have heart palpitations? Have you ever read a book that caused you to have sweaty palms & butterflies in your stomach? Have you ever read a book that blows your mind, breaks your heart and causes you to stop breathing? Holy smokes! If not, you must read the Life Duet by Jewel E. Ann — The Life That Mattered & The LIfe You Stole. She’s done it again. Words escape me when I try to describe the feelings that these books evoked in me. Thought-provoking doesn’t even come close to describing the emotions and feelings I had reading these books. Because this is so very different I’m giving nothing away as far as the plot or the characters or the twists (OMG, the twists!). I would just suggest reading them with an open mind and an open heart, but be careful….because I didn’t think my heart was going survive it! Another unforgettable 5-star read by this author!
I’m completely wrecked right now. It’s 2 in the morning and I just finished The Life You Stole and I’m speechless. I still have tears running down my face and can’t stop thinking about this book.
I have been dying to get my hands on this book since I finished book one. I am not going to give any details. This is a journey you need to take going in blind. There were so many times I wanted to throw my kindle across the room. This duet has wrecked me.
Jewel E. Ann is a go to author for me and let me tell y’all she blew me away with this duet. It’s a must read! Make sure you read The Life that Mattered first. This duet is one my top reads for 2020.
I’ve been waiting a long time for THIS story. It sounds pretty dramatic, but when you come across an emotional powerhouse of a plot, a flawless narration that checks all the sentimental boxes, it’s difficult to come out unscathed and unchanged. It’s gravelly emotional, sandpapers and chafes at your heart, so deeply engrossing that the world ceases to exist while you’re reading it, and nothing seems to matter when you’re done with it….you know This Is IT you’ve found the PERFECT BOOK
We all know the Genius of Jewel, but this Duet has definitely propelled into an esteemed exceptional League.
There is something hypnotic and transcendent about her writing,
This story has climbed the BookBoard chart and set camp in the FIRST POSITIONand it’s not gonna move anytime soon. Even surpassing my fave Transcend Duet!!!!
Pushing her boundaries and venturing tentatively into the greyer side of love, she pens a hard hitting story about Truths and Lies. She holds back no punches to deliver a heartfelt chronicle of Love and Betrayal, addictions and afflictions, trusting of hearts and twisting of arms
“Trust is hard. It comes in many forms. We trust the people we love to be honest, but we also trust them to protect us. What happens when the two are at odds?”
They stand at the crossroads of life, the pendulum swinging between life and death and the lines between honorable lies and diabolical truths get blurrier by the day.
Four Friends.
Two Lovers.
One Unimaginable Tragedy
The story gets under your skin and travels deep into your soul. Implants itself and grows roots, branches sprout, which spread in all directions and grip you tight in its vice like grip.
All the characters are hysterically unstable, impassioned and enthusiastic in their familial loyalty, fanatical in love for their soul mates till it ends up becoming a ball and chain around their ankles, dragging everybody down!
“Life never went in the imagined direction. It traipsed through the mud, climbed impossible mountains, and leapt the widest oceans. But usually not without getting muddy, slipping off a few cliffs, and drowning in the current.”
I read this book cover to cover, line by line, word by word. Overwhelmed and Drained, I had to take several pit stops to swallow hard the rock of guilt and emotions stuck in my throat.
Jewel has put in tremendous amount of effort and care in creating these people, she shifts them like pieces on a chess board, switching their colors and motives all the time. I felt an overpowering connection to all of them…yup ALL OF THEM multiple POVs helped in shifting my loyalties from book 1 through book 2. The cadence and constant movement of the plot is purposeful and deliberate which helps build intrigue and chicanery that’s happening right in front of your eyes.
“Sometimes we loved with lies and protected with sins.”
Manipulation & deviance take center stage deliberately or unbeknownst, I tripped on it and fell headlong first…all the way down the rabbit hole
I’m rendered speechless everytime I’ve read jewels book, yet i babble! #Conundrum!
All them are sheer perfection, but this one is EXCEPTIONAL
At the end you’re left with One Question
“What would one give to have someone back?
What would one give for that second chance?”
READ.THIS. DUET for the answer. It might surprise you because it’s not what you would’ve guessed in a million years!!…..
Million Stars in Crisp Aspen Sky as I kneel in the freezing snow for you Jewel
After much panicking waiting on this book, I settle on one thought. What The H E L L. I am not sure if we are coming or going already, and my jaw is on the floor. It had so many twists.
I so want to know more on how the connection between Ronin and Lila worked. I hurt for Lila and Evelyn. This book was crazy, and I so didn’t see Graham coming. I cried for Ronin. I couldn’t imagine the pain he had. The ending had me holding my breath. My heart just hurt.
I’ll leave it at this last thought because I don’t want anyone to miss out on this. This book stretched me. My imagination went wild. You will need tissues!
I read The Life You Stole in one sitting. I’m left gobsmacked and once again in awe of this author and her storytelling skills. TLYS is a spectacular reading experience. Jewel E Ann casts her magical web and I was ensnared. I was completely enthralled with these four characters. They each made some monumental choices in their lives and they had consequences. It was twisted and toxic but very entertaining nonetheless.
The story picks up right where The Life That Mattered ends and from page one it’s full steam ahead. No slowing down. Oh man these four people didn’t let me catch my breath for one second. I went through every emotion possible. The foundation for the four characters were flawlessly crafted in The Life That Mattered and in The Life You Stole they achieved their full potential and so did the story.
I won’t give much away but what truly resonated with me was the friendships and dynamics these people shared with one another and how far they would go for the ones they loved. It was intense and emotional but only because I was so damn invested in especially Evie and Ronin. Their marriage and love touched my heart and soul. What they went through was heartbreaking and beautiful.
With The Life You Stole Jewel E Ann has created a thrilling and jaw dropping duet. She’s such a versatile author and with this book she confirms it once again. If you’re a fan of suspense with lots of twists then this Duet is the one to read. Just buckle up and enjoy the ride.
