With detailed guidance for determining which items in your house “spark joy” (and which don’t), this international bestseller featuring Tokyo’s newest lifestyle phenomenon will help you clear your clutter and enjoy the unique magic of a tidy home—and the calm, motivated mindset it can inspire.

Overall, I like what Marie Is going for and I used many of her tips to declutter, organize, and tidy my own home. She does get a little extreme with some of her methods though. But I did appreciate her dedication to her work.
Marie Kondo’s book really does “spark joy.” Decluttering and organizing is therapeutic when you do it carefully and systematically.
This author takes a different path toward decluttering than other books I have read. I’m looking forward to implementing her ideas.
Motivating
I have read several other decluttering books and always find things that work for me. I found this book extremely useful and plan to implement almost all of it very soon. The only thing I found unrealistic for non Japanese homes , is that she recommends that you do all your uncluttering for your house in one day. It would have to be an entire 24 hours for me, which I am not up for doing. However, I am not letting that stop me, because I understand her reasoning and it makes perfect sense.
The author gives an interesting spin on taking control of clutter- addressing each item before sorting into give-away or keep piles, thanking the item/giver for its “service” and reducing guilt where useless heirlooms or “not me” gifts are concerned. But the system is tough to Americanize, since four seasons can require more wardrobe variety and storage, to say nothing of sports and workout gear and hobby paraphernalia.
clears my mind, folding has never seemed like relaxation until now.
I am not a fan of her methods for most people…it’s simply too much at once. Most of my clients would be completely overwhelmed without assistance and would quit before they got started.
Not practical
Its a great book on de-cluttering your life. If only I could get my wife (the hoarder) to read it.
Excellent suggestions to get your self organized and productive!! Straight forward suggestions!!
This book was amazing! I am already into decluttering and this book showed me how to do it more practically. I am really motivated to continue to make my house a peaceful oasis with only the things I love within it.
Fantastic, but a little heavy handed on the minimalism for me. It still changed the way I live, what I retain.
I know a lot of people loved this book, but it just did not speak to me. I can’t see myself following any of the guidelines set forth in this book.
The idea of throwing out everything I own that isn’t bringing me immediate joy is just too far beyond my self-discipline. Much of the junk I’ve accumulated brings me joy because of it’s availability should I ever need it. I found myself arguing with just about everything the author proposed as the right course of action. Psychological dissonance… to the max!
My second time to read this book. I found several inspiring ideas that either I missed the first time or didn’t stick in my head during the first reading. She inspires me to leave the past behind & lighten my load physically & mentally.
Interesting way to look at how to organize your house and life.
Very informative and inspired me to simplify.
I wanted to love this book but I didn’t.
This book really is life changing. It changed the way I organize like no other book I’ve read on this subject.
