The KonMori method of tidying up is inspiring. Marie Kondo shares with us her many years of trying to perfect the art of tidying that teaches us all to only own possessions that “spark joy”.
I started reading the book after I saw few episode of the author show on Netflix, very inspiring and it gives you a new prospective of how to clean up your house and things around you.
I loved this book so much It literally changed my life on learning how to tidy up
This book was as fun to read as fiction. It was a “joy” to hold this small, beautifully bond book in my hands. The voice of Marie coming through the pages was fantastic and so unlike most nonfiction, organization type of books.
I loved hearing about her KonMari process for tidying which comes down to a few basic principles. One of them being if the item doesn’t bring you joy, get rid of it. And she had stated some surprisingly simple truths such as, a room can only get untidy if you don’t put something back or everything you own doesn’t have a place. Obviously, that is true, but I still have always managed to find some other excuse for my clutter. Maybe I won’t going forward.
However, as an overly sentimental person who hates to throw away anything that might have some future use, I found her minimalist approach a little too strict. Plus, I am too busy to set aside 1-2 months for a once-in-a-lifetime tidying of my house project. Although in theory, I see why this is important. Also, routines like removing my shampoo, conditioner, and soaps from the shower, drying them, and putting them away in a closet outside my bathroom just simply isn’t practical for my multi-person household. But reading about suggestions like hers gave me a good laugh and are memorable. And I will likely incorporate some of them into my own routine.
Overall, I am very inspired to tidy my house and have already gotten rid of about 8 bags of items without a focused tidying effort, and as I have time here and there, I expect I will continue.
Something I needed to give me a kickstart in clearing out my space!
this book did not spark joy….
Interesting philosophy on cleaning up; very difficult to put into action for a collector or artifacts or books!
This is a unique book, that gets you all set to “get that clutter” and simplify your life!
This book is incredible & is truly magical. If you’re one of those who needs to get rid of some clutter, this is a must-read. It’s follow-up, Spark Joy, is just as essential. You’ll not only declutter your home, but also your life……in just a few easy steps.
A very different and interesting method of simplifying our lives.
Not everyone can follow Marie’s suggestions, and you may or may not want to reorder your clothes like she says to. If you are not happy with your organization skills, try hers. You might be surprised.
Helped me clear the clutter of my life. Everyone should read it.
It was very helpful, gave me a better way t
o look at “Things”
A very unique, mindful approach to organizing.
Useful information.
My daughter says I could have written this book twenty years ago. Her values and mine are very similar…except for books, I never give away my books. They constantly bring me joy.
Repetitive but interesting
I enjoyed this book as it presents a different approach to getting rid of clutter. The way Marie Kondo folds clothes is unique, but I’m not sure I’m going to implement the technique. I like the idea of breaking the process down into large chunks, as it makes the process simpler, however, I’m going to have to break down the chunks into smaller chunks until I get over my initial fears. I also like the idea of figuring out how an item makes me feel. I need to make sure that more of the things I own really reflect me, or make me smile.
A cleaning plan that works.
It’s okay to let go of things and let them “bring happiness to others”.
