Ended too soon. A good story but more developed version would have been better. Never said that about a book before.
liked it very much!
Having been stationed there, I love a story set at Pearl Harbor.
Such an intriguing historical romance. Poignant story set in Pearl Harbor in December 1941. The author did a great job with the historical aspect of the story, bringing to light the story of the Japanese attack. I enjoyed the glimpse into life on the steamship the characters traveled on to Hawaii. The characters are strong, realistic, and relatable. Eva is headed to Pearl Harbor with a past that is revealed layer by layer throughout the story, keeping interest high. Despite having a military boyfriend in Hawaii, Eva quickly connects with Lt. Spencer which adds engaging romantic tension. What a heartfelt and captivating story of romance during wartime. I loved it. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author. I listened to a library copy of the audiobook and Lauren Ezzo did a great job narrating the story, making for an enjoyable listening experience. I was not required to write a review and the opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed this book! And if I sound surprised, it is because I am. I do not tend to gravitate towards literature set in this time period. However, I lived in Hawaii for a few years and miss it dearly. Therefore, I gave this book a try.
Of course the setting was amazing, but the story was so well told that I couldn’t put it down. So yes, it was a war story and a romance story, but it was also so much more. It was a story about courage, finding your voice, and being resilient. I will definitely be reading more from Ms. Sara Ackerman!
Loved this book. Loved the time period it was written in, loved the Island descriptions and the local people.
Fabulous book – really felt I was at Pearl Harbor. Recommended.
Learned some things about the invasion of Pearl Harbor. The nursing experience appealed to me
The historical aspects were good, but the author didn’t seem to know much about the military.
Realistic descriptions of the attack on Pearl Harbor and its horrors. This is an Interesting viewpoint of the cause of this attack and how it impacted the war and America’s involvement.
This was an original concept informative with enough added history to make it quite believable. It’s a page-turner that you just don’t want to put down. Highly recommend reading this book.
I enjoyed the historical part of the book most. It held my interest to the very end.
Good historical fiction, very interesting. And the dog comes out alive and well!!
Rushed ending.
Built on some facts, some family lore. Light but good read in the shadow of the devastation of Pearl Harbor
Lovely romance with good WWII history. Excellent portrait of a ship board romance and voyage.
Loved the characters and always love books written in this period – a lot of facts are true and make you think about what life would have been like.
Slow moving; kind of a disappointment.
A new spin on the lead up to Pearl Harbor from nurses perspective. Romantic too!
Loved this book!
