Natalie Conner is a self-proclaimed liar who is used to doing what she wants. There’s only one problem: the truth always comes to light. When issues arise in her new life, she finds herself back at square one and the web of lies she clings to are unveiling before her. With her life now revolving around the past, she has a choice to make. However, for Natalie, when her life starts to spiral out of … spiral out of control, a new life and a new web of lies have never sounded so good.
Natalie Conner might be a liar, but her story isn’t one she can make up.

I received this book as an ARC and will give my honest opinion.
I have read Hazed by the same author, so I had an idea of the type of relationship issues that could be touched upon in the book. The author has a unique way of writing about real people with real problems. How many people do we know that run away when things become tough. They just pick up and leave without communicating their fears and reasons for panic. Natalie starts by lies by omission, and as far as she goes, she tends to continue this pattern. I notice that the characters have trouble communicating, which leads to breaks in their relationships.
I am not a big fan of these kinds of books as they tend to affect me negatively. I find it sad that there may be people out there who live their lives like this. However, it is a realistic book, and I would recommend it for those who do not wish to travel too far into fiction when they read and who wants to read about other people’s mistakes.
I really enjoyed this story. Really good plot to the story. Very well written. Would highly recommend it to anyone who likes this kind of stories. Can’t wait to read more from this author.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Natalie is a self proclaimed liar and her story is an interesting one. When her lies catch up to her everything changes and it makes the story that much more intriguing. At first I had a hard time with the transitions from past to present but once I got into the story I was intrigued and couldn’t put the book down until the end. This was my first book by this author and I will be looking for more of her books to read in the future.
This is the first book I have read by Brittany Butler. I found that I overall enjoyed this book. I did get confused in the beginning of this book with the POV going from present to past, but then things started to make sense. Natalie runs from her problems and then wonders why they becoming bigger problems and in her own words “she is a liar”. The story line did keep me interested to complete this book. The story did flow but had some staggering when switching from present to past and back again. Overall, I did enjoy this book and I do recommend it to others.
The Lies We Tell by Brittany Butler tells us a story of lies and deception and how easily that can overwhelm your life. Overall, I enjoyed the characters in the book, and there were many twists and turns leaving you unsure of what was going to happen in the end. I liked that this could be realistic fiction with a lesson of how lies can unravel and take over your entire life, not knowing what will happen next. The book was well written, but some of the transitions from past to present were sometimes hard to follow. This is the first book I have read by this author, and I can easily give It 4 stars and I would definitely read other books she writes.
I have not had the pleasure of reading anything by Brittany Butler before The Lies We Tell, but once I saw that catching cover and the luring blurbs I knew I had to give it a go. I am glad that I did. This was a different bit of a read for me. I knew that I wouldn’t really get along with or connect with the main character very much but still the concept was gripping. Natalie is a liar, and she has no problems admitting it. For me that would drive me nuts. She also has some serious communication issues but that may just be a personal opinion too I am not positive. So we follow the life of a liar, and it is pretty messy and entertaining. My only complaint would have to be the major time jumps. Several were just darn confusing as a reader to piece together. Otherwise I really enjoyed this and look forward to seeing what else is out there by Brittany Butler!

The Lies We Tell By Brittany Butleris a new adult romance book that once I started reading I couldn’t put it down until I finished it. This story is told from Natalie’s POV and other characters as well. This is my first read by this Author but it definitely wont be my last. I found it bounced back and forth between past and present and at times I was very confused but I was intrigued to keep going to see what happens next.Get ready for a wild ride that will have your emotions going up and down. Find out what Natalie’s future holds .I highly recommend reading this book.i cant wait to read more from this Author.
“There is no room for your past when you have a new future.”
“The past doesn’t matter… It is just a part of the lies we tell”
“He ages like fine wine. I, on the other hand, age with Botox.”
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and it was almost like a “blind date” read because the blurb is so vague (I really like the blurb doesn’t explain the whole book). THE LIES WE TELL focuses on one main character with three very important secondary characters who move the story along. It is told in single POV in past and present tense. While tense is always mentioned at the beginning of a new chapter, there were times when I didn’t know whose past we were going to be reading about – or what timeframe. I had to slow down and pay attention so I would know who I was reading about.
It is a well thought out story and I was surprised by the weight of the story. This book isn’t all fluff and romance. There are certain times in the story that I wanted to throw my Kindle against the wall because I did not like what was going on and there were times I wanted to shake them all and tell them to move along and don’t look back. In the end, this was a satisfying read.
I give THE LIES WE TELL 4 super solid stars.
A plot twist? In a book about lies? What?!
But seriously, I did not see that coming and it made up for almost everything else I wasn’t too fond of.
Natalie is a liar. It’s pretty helpful as an author, I would imagine. But she lies about everything and honestly it got old after a while. The lies were something I could relate to since I was a pretty big liar as a child and it would be about the most ridiculous things that I didn’t need to lie about but it would make whatever situation I was currently in just a little bit easier. As with our lovely main character Natalie, it doesn’t hold up well in the long run. SOOOO many of her problems could have been solved with a short conversation and although I know this is how Natalie operates, but this is really similar to when characters make stupid decisions for drama’s sake. Not a fan of that. This instance is a bit different since Natalie has always been like this but still.
The story gets pretty intense and the twist is worth it.
This story is told from mostly Natalie’s perspective. Brittany Butler is a new to me author. Aside from the actual plot, I found the story to be lacking excitement until about halfway through. There was very few laughs, a little bit of action, and a lot of life lessons. It wasn’t the type of book I could read in one day. The story jumps between present and past until about halfway through, when it all merges and makes better sense. The story is a second chance romance that touches on some real life situations that might be hard to read for people who have experienced miscarriages. There’s a bit of language suitable only for adults. 3 stars
Right off, I will tell you that if you are looking for a fluffy romance novel, this is not it. The Lies We Tell is full of dysfunctional characters and the sticky situations they get themselves into. Overall, the story was good, but I wasn’t really into the switching back and forth between the past and present. I would just be getting into the story and then it would change lanes, which works in some books, but I think a chronological telling would have been a smoother read.
The main character is…perpetually messed up and full of bad decisions. I really wanted to like her, but she comes across as a basket case. And the people she has in her life aren’t much better. I think this book shows just how important open and honest communication is in relationships, and just how devastating it is when people don’t have those skills.
While I wasn’t completely taken in by this book, the more down-to-earth story can be a good change of pace once in awhile.
The Lies We Tell by Brittany Butler
Four Stars
We Tell lies to for the most part because we don’t see a way around the situation. Or we tell lies to make our live seem better. Natalie doesn’t really know what she wants but she knew what lies to tell to get out of what she didn’t. I don’t know if I could ever be friends with the woman who ruined my marriage . Yes you can move on with your life. But to actually have conversations, dinners and outings nope. I was super sad about Collins but Jack made up for it. The story was well written. The author made the characters more flawed and believable. I was a big fan of Natalie but she kinda grew on me.
The Lies We Tell by Brittany Butler
4-stars
An amazing and fast paced novel, I could not put The Lies We Tell by Brittany Butler down. Natalie is a runner and has lived a life of half truths. She has also endured a lot over the years. In enjoyed reading how her past and her lies caught up with her and changed the course of her future. I also loved that she was an author and has to learn to not let what others think affect her. I feel like she really matured as the novel progressed. I also enjoyed Tabitha, Collin, and Jack’s characters. Each one had their own interesting personality. The love triangle was also a great mix to the storyline. I really enjoyed reading it!

I enjoyed reading this book and getting to know Natalie or at least what we think we know, since you never can tell if your hearing the truth. This book kept me wondering throughout and kept me intrigued. The timeline does jump around from time to time and kept me on my toes. I found this book to be original, funny, realistic, dramatic with some steamy moments thrown in there. This book definitely took me on an unexpected ride, and I enjoyed every minute of it. There are some wonderful characters in this story and I recommend this book, you won’t be able to put it down till you have read the last page.
The Lies We Tell by Brittany Butler is about Natalie Conner. Natalie is a self-proclaimed liar and she is living a life where the lies are piling up on her. This was my first read by this author and the blurb drew me in. The story is interesting and brings up some current topics and thoughts. I overall enjoyed this read which I found intriguing. There are jumps back and forth in time to explain Natalie and her situation. These to me were good but choppy and at times confusing. I had to really pay attention to know where in Natalie’s life I was reading. If you like a book that is a fairly quick read with some interesting story this is a good read. I will be reading more from this author in the future.
“Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive!” (Sir Walter Scott, 1809).
The Lies We Tell by Brittany Butler is my first encounter with this author. I will say that I will read other books by her. She has an imagination that allows her to go between different time frames. Her characters are fully developed, and the story is told by the POV of Natalie. There will be some time jumps from Natalie’s past and her present. Sometimes it took me by surprise, and I had to reread to make sure I knew where I was in the story. One thing I thought was an interesting character trait of Natalie is that she is a self-proclaimed liar. I am not sure if that I could believe in anything she ever said. This story takes you on a roller coaster ride and I never knew if it was for what was really going on or if it was made of lie from Natalie. This is a quick read novel and I recommend it for an interesting “get your mind off of things” read. I cannot wait to see other books from Brittany Butler.

The Lies We Tell by Brittany Butler is an interesting story that took me on quite a ride. Ms. Butler is a ‘new-to-me’ author whose work I was quite excited to dive into. From the blurb, to the cover- this book had me intrigued enough to one-click and jump right in.
The story follows Natalie, a self-confessed liar, and her story twists and turns so many times that I really had no idea how everything would play out. I was left guessing, literally right till the end. There were lots of surprising developments, some humour, drama, betrayal, steamy moments, and plenty of mystery.
The story jumps around quite a bit, from the past to present, and back again- as well as jumping chunks/years of timeline. For the most part the transitions were done fairly well, but I felt that there were times they were quite a bit confusing and somewhat disruptive to the story.
But, I did enjoy it enough to want to explore more of Ms. Butler’s work in the future.
Thank you, Ms. Butler!
A great read about lies. Natalie Conner ran away for a life as an author. Life is good to her with fame and new friends. She even falls in love again with new friend Collin but when life with Collin begins to turn sour, will she run away again?
A great read. Well developed plot. Well developed characters like the sarcastic but sensitive Natalie or Collin harsh exterior but kind underneath. Great cast of supporting characters like fun friend Tabatha or the humourous Jack.
I loved the visual detail throughout the novel with the contrasts between a quiet home and busy spaces like coffee shops or the dinner scenes which was brilalitly written.
The jumps between past and present was a brilliant idea to show how things had changed and was fairly easy to follow. The only issue I would raise is that there was some repetition and long sentences in places. Overall, a great read and I would give it four stars.
This is my first read for this author, but it will not be my last. I found the book to be quite creative, entertaining and made me think. This is a quick read, the main character is weird and fun, and the ending is quite unexpected. I highly recommend you read for yourself.
The Lies We Tell by Brittany Butler is a book that explores what happens when the lies we tell catch up to us and how the past can effect our future.
Overall for me this was an enjoyable read, although there were times I felt slightly disappointed. For me the blurb built this book up to be so much and I don’t think the story quite lived up to the expectation I set.
However the story was good and well paced and the characters were well thought through. And while it was quite what I expected I enjoyed the story and found myself become invested in it. This is certainly an author I will read again in the future.
