This is the first time I have ever read anything by this author, and I was not disappointed. This is the first book in The Four series, and this is the story of Winter, and Caiden. Caiden is a part of The Four, a group of bullies, at Winters college that set about making her life hell. But when Caiden, and Winter are together, sparks fly. This was a great read, the characters are well written, and they had explosive chemistry, This book was steamy, sexy, dramatic, emotional, intense, suspenseful, and mysterious. I can’t wait to read about the rest of The Four.
The Lies We Tell was a fast paced and engaging read that lulled me in, then kept me hooked yet left me wanting more of The Four. When Winter and Caiden’s paths crossed I couldn’t wait for the fireworks that promised to ensue and boy did they ever. I enjoyed the push and pull between them and how The Four pushed Caiden’s hand a bit to make sure he went after what he wanted. Full of secrets, lies, suspense, betrayals, and intrigue their story kept my interest constantly piqued. I loved the rest of The Four and how they added so much more to the storyline. I enjoyed getting to know each of them and definitely have a favorite two or three…lol. After this great start to this series I can’t wait for more of The Four.
What a fast pace and exciting story this was and is book one in a new series.
We start with our heroine, Winter, transferring college to be close to her mum, who she hasn’t seen in years, but that’s all an act and she’s there to find out what happened to her dad who was killed and thinks her mum knows something.
At her first party, she comes across ‘The Four’ and is pulled towards Caiden, who can’t keep his eyes of her, but it’s a look of hate. ‘The Four’ are spoiled rich boys with a dark edge, two of them brothers, the other two just friends. Winter knows who they are, through her research and the fact that the two brothers and her new stepbrothers!
This is a dark bully romance, where Caiden keeps pushing Winter until the sexual tension between them explodes. There’s a good bit push and pull between them that I loved, and I do like a mysterious alpha bad boy who loves with all his heart.
‘The Four’ are a great group of guys with so much mystery and lots more of their story to tell, I loved their uniqueness and the bond that Winter has with them. I wasn’t expecting that cliffhanger though and I’m dying to know what happens next!

There is nothing like being the last to know how very you are about someone else. Caiden Cavendish stubbornly chooses distrust in the face of facts that the thing he thinks is suspicious is the least subject him about which to worry.
Men.
The premise of The Lies We Tell is the Step-Sib Trope of forbidden desires, which ultimately isn’t half as icky as the taboo implies. That Caiden hates Winter, but Winter has the hots for Cade’s hate is far more troubling than any piggly-wiggly familial relations. Love is so complicated.
After a life of modest living with her adoring father, Winter is adrift after his death. The one thing she is sure of is that something shady happened to him, and it’s connected to her estranged mother. A Wealthy mother who couldn’t care less for Winter; her Cinderella story is askew because it’s her bio mom who is the witch.
But her stepbrothers are no better than Cinderella’s because Cade is a colossal dick.
I love Winter. She’s a complex character who I could understand. She tends toward dramatic, and that isn’t very pleasant, but her ability to go with the flow is a plus. I enjoy her personality and her dynamic with The Four.
Okay, so in a game of MFK, I am all about K-ing Caiden Cavendish. He’s a real piece of work. But I can say of The Four Zayde is the F and Cassius is the M. West is obviously both my and Winter’s brother, so he’s not part of the game. But Winter and I need to Kill Caiden because he’s a bullheaded Weiner, and there is so much work to be done to retrain him.
To be fair, Cade is dealing with the fact that his closest bros are also those propagators of chaos. They are poking the bear every moment they get, and I love the bastards. The boys are well developed and individualistic.
The crux of this story is the mystery is ever-present but feels as if it lies outside the story. The reveals in this are crumby–and I don’t mean Becca Steele is leading us with crumbs but more like it’s shoddy and we needed a little more of an oomph discovery for it to be satisfying.
I hope book two can continue the pace and stays on track. I have high hopes for the rest of the series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary advance copy of this book.
I am totally stunned by this book, it was so good! I love love love and want more now! Forbidden romance, a total bully, enemies to lovers with all the sexual tension and angst I love combined in an explosive rollercoaster story. Caiden and Winter’s story was perfect, can’t wait to see what happens next with Cassius, Zayde, and Weston. Mind blown 5 stars! Kelli Tager and Gregory Salinas did a fantastic job narrating, Gregory British accent and character portraying was spot on, Kelli’s voice really did a great job with Winter and her voice changing for other characters, edition and sound was good, definitely a great audiobook option.
Holy wow, this book had it all: tons of suspense, hot alpha males, a kick-butt female lead that is confident and smart, and a storyline that will keep you hooked from start to finish. I love Winter’s character because, even in the face of danger and awful people, she doesn’t shy away from wanting to find out the truth. She holds her ground and uses her smarts and determination to her advantage, which helps her in so many ways.
And then there’s Caiden – stupid hot, rules the school, has a chip on his shoulder. But deep down, he wants to find out the truth about things as well, and he has another side to him that makes me swoon over him even more than I already was.
I want more. I want more of this story, more of The Four, more of Winter, more of finding out what happens next. You will get sucked into this twisted world and awesome storyline, and you won’t want it to end. Be prepared for it to end all too quickly, though, because you won’t want to put it down.
Thanks to Becca for providing an advanced copy of this book. Definitely ready for the next book in this series! I’d give it more than five stars if I could!
Hello! It’s me, The Lies We Tell. I’m the book that’s going to steal your heart with my hot character chemistry and in the end… KEEP READING *smirk* *smirk*

“I’m not gonna listen to what the past says

What’s this book about? (I’m trying to give as little spoilers as possible)
Winter’s a girl on a mission. Attend Alstone College, spy on the rich and figure out what happened with her dad’s death that was ruled an accident. She expects to fly under the radar, but the Four have different plans. The Four’s leader and Winter’s stepbrother Caiden Cavendish intrigues Winter, determined to make her life a living hell. All lies.
ENDS IN A CLIFFHANGER – That’s no lie. I felt that. I REALLY DID. DAYUM.
This is my first book by Becca Steele and I have to say I was mesmerized by it. First things first, let’s take a moment and appreciate the beautiful cover. I read the e-book version and the formatting was so pretty!
Winter. I love her name, by the way. I congratulate her determination and the fact that she didn’t buy into the pettiness of money. Her attitude was solid throughout. She was a girl with a plan and she didn’t let money define her in any way. Winter and Caiden have strange parents, to say the least, and the way they dealt with them was provoking. Kinslee was a hilarious friend and honestly, Winter and Kinslee’s dialogues had me LAUGHING SO HARD. Both of them are incredibly precious and I ship their friendship a lot.
Caiden Cavendish – the way he started out, he almost had me hating him. He has all the attributes that would normally make me hate a guy, conceited, player, women are shells to be used to for pleasure only, you get the gist, basically every bully in Bully Romance novels. Yet, King Caiden got lucky. The author took care of him (I don’t know how else to describe this! LOL) and didn’t make him seem like the uber-perfect over-powered bully (as perfect as bullies can be HAHA). She brought him forward in a group of four guys who are all supplementing each other in a way, one compensating for feelings the other character doesn’t possess or isn’t willing to show (my word choice… compensating? Tsk tsk). I felt like I got to know each of the Four better when the group was interacting.
The Four’s chemistry with Winter is undeniable. The sassy comments, the occasional steamy scene and the character relationship development throughout the novel was entertaining and coated in mystery at the same time. To say that the cliffhanger had me UPSET is an understatement. DAMN, I NEED THE NEXT BOOK. I desperately need it. I wonder if every book will be about another Four member or if it’s going to stay in Winter and Caiden’s POVs. Honestly, I didn’t get the feeling that the author was building for the rest of the books to be about the other boys with their respective love interests. Let me know if you have any knowledge on that! I had a fun time reading this book and I definitely recommend it!
” Have you ever been so aware of someone that your whole being reacts to them? Like you can’t control it? -Well this is me with the Kings of Alstone College also know as THE FOUR.
Cassius, Weston, Zayde and Caiden are The Four and let me tell you that they will rule your hearth(HOT, POSSESIVE, ALPHA MALES that will leave you all hot and bother all over).
The story begins with Winter coming to Alstone college in a quest for answers to her father’s death, this is where she mets her future tormentors but this won’t stop her with her plans.
So many twist and turns, this books took me through an emotional rollercoaster know as The IV, so many sections I had to re-read because I wanted to find clues to the answers I was looking for.
Enemies to lovers, bully romance, forbidden step siblings romance, mystery and lies that need to be discover-I was in book heaven and towards the end of the story which ends in a cliffhanger I was YELLING , because that ending was WOW (I didn’t want this book to end)
Excellent job Becca because this book it so different from her previous ones but its also amazing as the other ones.
THIS BOOK!! DAMN I NEED BOOK 2 NOW! Winter is my girl. I love a smart heroine who won’t take anyones crap. Winter is seeking answers and revenge and isn’t going to stop until she gets them. The Four, oooo weeee!!! These boys are hot and sexy! Love Weston, the sweetheart. Cassius is the flirt of the group, but he is low key a teddy bear. Zaiden is the broody alpha who can be a little scary. And sweet baby Jesus Caiden, the sexy as sin Caiden who is the leader of The Four. Caiden has his guard up and is trying to find out the truth.
This book is full of twists and turns and I can’t wait for book 2. That ending though, my heart stopped!! I need to know what’s going to happen with Winter, what is her mother up to, will The Four get there in time?? This book is a MUST READ!!
I can’t believe Becca Steele done it again! I’m in AWE!
The Lies We Tell is so different from the London Suits series even thought it’s enemies to lover but you can feel the vibe is so poles apart. The Four is on another level
This is her 3rd book to write and I’m so Speechless how talented she is. She adapts to change and her words are wonderful and gripping.
The Lies We Tell, what can I say….
The Four… they are HOT Alphas that surprisingly Winter can handle them all. Snowflake is badass. Don’t underestimate her or her frost will bite.
The Lies We Tell will get you hooked and you won’t put this book down.
The Lies We Tell is the first book in The Four series which is not a standalone and is told in the alternating first-person point of view of Caiden Cavendish and Winter Huntington. The Lies We Tell is an enemies to lovers, college romantic suspense that is mysterious, sexy and intriguing. Winter and The Four captivate you right from the beginning and do not let you go until the end…
Winter is determined that her father’s death was not an accident so she uses her mother’s new married name to pull some strings to get into Alstone University so that she can attempt to get closer to her estranged mother and try to figure out what happened to her father. Winter did not expect to be hated when she first arrived by, of all people, her stepbrother, Caiden. Caiden can not stand Winter because she reminds him of her mother, who he despises. He tried to get The Four to hate Winter as well but Weston and Cassius do not believe that Winter is bad and as they all start spending time together, Caiden and Zayde actually start to trust Winter and they all start working together.
The chemistry between Caiden and Winter was hot and steamy and the ending was not expected. The Four are four sexy men you do not want to miss and Winter is such a strong heroine. As much as I am having a love/hate war with this book as I am not a huge fan of cliff hangers, I can not wait for book two of this series to see where the story goes. This was my first book by Becca Steele and I will for sure be reading more of her books. I was grateful to receive an arc of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Weston, is the youngest of the group and Caiden’s brother. He’s the tech genius, the brains behind the operations and he intrigues the hell out of me!
Cassius, the joker. The guy will the golden heart and the killer looks. He will charm your panties off you with just one smile.
And then there is Zayde. My Z. The dark, troubled, mysterious guy who will fuck shit up and not even blink. He is mine. MINE
”Don’t look at me like that.”
”Like what?”
”Like you want me to fuck you.”
I love how Becca Steele gave them all different personalities that bounce off each other. Each one brings a different dynamic to their friendship group and plays a vital role with Winter. I just love them. SIGH

Wow, this book pulled me right in and now I have to wait to find out what happens. However, Caiden and Winter are worth the wait. Winter’s life has been upended and is determined to find out the truth, whatever it takes. Caiden and his crew run the university and can make someone’s life difficult, they are trying to find out their information and get caught up in trying to figure out Winter. Caiden and Winter will pull you in with their hot/cold moments and leave you wanting to know what will finally happen between these two. This story is filled with twists and turns and an emotional rollercoaster that will leave you sitting on that final ascend of the ride and you will be waiting to see how this ride ends. I cannot wait for the next book to come out, it can’t happen fast enough. Read this book, you will not be disappointed.
This author and book are a first for me and I’m glad I read this book, I really liked this authors writing style. This story is an enemies to lovers romance story and it holds your attention completely.
Winter is a confident, strong sexy woman who doesn’t take no crap. She lets the four know that she’s not scared of them.
Winter hasn’t seen or spoken to her mum since she was five years old and doesn’t want anything from her. The only thing she used was her mums surname to transfer into the uni. Her mother married Arlo a very rich man who has two son’s Cadien and Weston.
Caiden is a sexy, strong alpha male who’s quite angry alot of the time. He totally hates Winter with a passion and he’s so mad, even the way he looks at her says he’s mad.
All these four are quite different but the same too if that makes sense.
The four Cassius, Zayde, and the brothers Weston and Caiden. Winter sort of becomes friends with the lads but Caiden is hard work. The chemistry between Caiden and Willow is off the chart there sparking so much there connection is explosive.
This book is told from different points of view which I always prefer.I liked the characters and how different they were. I loved Winter and at first thought Caiden was a jerk. I didn’t like her mother she was bitchy. This story has twist and turns there is mystery and nail biting moments.
These two characters are drawn together.
But oh wow!
What ……a ……cliffhanger…….
I really enjoyed reading this book it fits a lot in while still leaving you wanting more. The plot was fantastic.
NOW WE NEED BOOK 2 NOW.
This authors writing is fantastic and I’m so glad I read this book, I’m even more happier there’s going to be a second book . I’m going to recommend this book to everyone when it gets released.
Thank you to the author and publishers for allowing me to read an early copy of this book.
ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.
This book is Now Live.
3.5 Stars
Another day and another new author for me. This is the first book in a new bully series with an ongoing storyline from Becca.
I enjoyed the mix of the angst that Winter is going through and the mystery surrounding her fathers death. She has to deal with not only having her mother back in her life but her step siblings especially Caiden and that brings a whole lot of drama. My issue is I’ve read alot of books in this genre and now I want something more a fresh take on it. See Winter is written as a strong character and that is shown really well in the book until Caiden gives her attention and she is like putty in his hands. I wanted more from her, to resist him more and make him work for it a little harder. The story ends on big cliffhanger with lots of potential possibilities for the direction of the story which I will be following with interest.
Uh, he ll to the no!! You did not just leave me in the dark like that!!!
This ends on a nail-biting blood letting cliff hanger- and not just a little cliff
There are so many “WTH” and “OMG Why” moments leading up to the close of this first episode
My heart is racing
Snowflake (Winter) is playing Nancy Drew. She is pretty sure her egg donor knows something about her father’s untimely death so off she goes. It’s time to meet the Cavendish family and find her answers
Mrs. Cavendish (AKA the egg donor) is a piece of work as the story progressed my immense dislike for this woman did as well. Such a waste of oxygen.
The only thing more repulsive than her egg donor mother is
The Four
Caiden is the spoiled self-entitled sexy as sin eldest Cavendish who loathes Snowflake with a passion that borders on obsession.
The chemistry between them does not (IMO) ignite until a little after a third of the way through. There is a lot of push from both sides but denial is the river they are both swimming in. Once Caiden capsizes (with a little help from his friends) all bets are off.
His brother West is his complete opposite – except the whole sexy thing, I think all four have that alpha aura going on – a computer whiz and an absolute sweetheart West seems to be the anchor for the four.
Then we have Z brooding, dark, dangerous and so many flavors of yummy. We do not know a whole lot about Z at this point.
And my favorite Cass *sigh* the comic relief of the four and possibly the next sanest besides West. He is also the reason Snowflake never melts.
Like Snowflake the Hardy boys (plus two) are seeking out the answers to their own mystery.
Can Winter find her answers before The Four decide she is a hazard?
Can she get the information she needs before her world is forever tilted on its axis?
Who is the pinkie dude?
Why is the egg donor such a female hound?
This was a solid read – easy to follow – great characters
For me, it really began to develop around a third of the way through
Something just clicked for me and I was not closing the pages until I had answers
GAH… Let’s just start by saying Caiden is hot as hell and boy did I love him.
The four what can I say about these boys……
Except prepare to fall in love over and over again.
Cade, Cass, West and Z are just amazing and god they make you fan yourself.
Every page had me captivated and I serisouly couldn’t get enough of them.
Winter I loved her she was tough, likeable and so did not take crap from Cade it made you love her more.
Cade and Winter were just divine. I fell hard and fast with them. They pull you in and trust me you want to be pulled in.
Cade was tough but god his soft side was just so awwwww.
The love and hate they have for each just makes for fun banter. They are hot and fiery and so damn delicious.
I think I gushed a hundred times reading this amazing love story.
The Lies We Tell is the first book in ‘The Four’ Series by Becca Steel and it certainly was an intriguing read! The story focuses on Winter Huntington a college student who has switched college in order to spend time with her mother who left her when she was a little girl. Her father died in an explosion which she is suspicious of and is trying to find answers which all lead to her mother. Added into the mix are her new step-brothers: Caiden and Weston Cavendish. Straight away we find out that Caiden doesn’t like Winter and we spend some of the story finding out why, with the rest of the Four trying to make her life unbearable at school and at home.
There is certainly a lot of instant attraction between Caiden and Winter, but also with the rest of the Four who are all uniquely different in their own way, especially with Cassius. There are a lot of twists and turns in this book and the ending was phenomenal (what a cliff-hanger).
There are lots of steamy scenes in this book and a lot of will they/won’t they moments which leave you hanging and wanting more. It will be interesting to see where the rest of this series goes and whether there will be books about individual characters, not just Caiden and Willow.
The book also has a number of story-lines t follow which were really interesting, although Winter’s mother is just not a nice person and you are certainly hoping that she gets her comeuppance in the next book! Just saying!
Overall, a really great enemies to lovers’ book with just enough intrigue, suspense and steamy scenes to keep you turning the page to see what happens next.
ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review
