When your brother is the best quarterback in the NFL, people treat you one of two ways: they use you to get close to him, or they hand you whatever you want…. to get close to him. There is no in-between. So when I finally got a chance to prove myself as an athletic trainer to my hometown’s baseball team, I jumped at the chance. I packed up and headed to spring training. No one had to know who my …
No one had to know who my brother was. No one needed to know my last name. No one would ask, and I wouldn’t tell. I would keep to myself, work hard, and kick ass.
If only it was that easy.
One little white lie turned into two.
Then three.
Then four.
And damnit I couldn’t even keep the lies straight anymore.
Things got even more complicated when Chase Turner pulled me into his web of lies. I was just trying to make it through spring training without my head exploding.
Who knew I would find peace in the biggest lie of all—my feelings for Chase. Because no matter how much this all shattered in the end, he had become worth the secrets.
Now I just hoped we could survive the lies we told.
*The Lies We Tell is a complete standalone but the second book in the Games Series. It’s a contemporary sports romance with some laughs, some steam, and an HEA!!

Chase and Becca are introduced in book 1, The Games We Play. Chase is a baseball catcher and Becca is just starting her career in Sports Medicine. She gets the opportunity to intern on the same team that her brother’s best friend plays on, the Atlanta Kings. Wanting to prove herself without help from her famous brother or his friends, she hides her connection to her brother. One little lie leads to another. While each lie is told with good intentions, the lies get away from her when she finds herself attracted to Chase. The author did a superb job of handling all the lies that were interwoven in the story. I didn’t feel like I was walking on eggshells waiting for the bottom to fall out. In the end, Chase and Becca decide the truth Is worth the risk. In the middle of all the lies and jumping through hoops is a sweet love story between two people with incredible chemistry and a deep connection. I didn’t expect how it would affect their careers which was a nice surprise. I love that the author stayed away from cliché situations and conclusions. They both chose their relationship over everything else. Katie Rae’s characters are so realistic and easy to identify with that you can’t help but to fall in love with them.
We meet Chase in The Games We Play(Book 1) as Kace Teammate and Becca is Cam sister. Becca has an opportunity as a athletic trainer for spring training, she comes in with a few lies underbelt. She catches the eye of our favorite catcher, will she be able to keep her lies straight and not fall for the Alanta Kings catcher or will she be caught in her web of lies. This book is such a lighthearted book with a dash of drama and heartache! Well done Katie!
Who knew catcher’s gear could be so sexy?
This is such a strong second book for Katie Rae, and I thought she hit it outta the park with the first one.
I really enjoyed that this book is different from the first.
Yes, it is contemporary sports based romance, but it is lighter (not fluff) than the first and is not a MMF book.
I liked that she did make it a companion story to the first book, and yet both stand completely on their own.
I would love to see more from her in the future and I think she should continue to write stories that challenge her as a writer.
I will definitely continue to read any new things she puts out in the future.
“Chase?”“Yeah, Princess?” “What is this?” I don’t know where the question came from. I didn’t even really know what I was asking. I was even scared of the answer. “I don’t know,” he replied, still looking toward the TV. I guess that was fair enough since I didn’t even know what I was asking. Then he added, “But I like it. I smiled into his chest, “Me too.”
This was my second book of Katie, and as the first one I’m in awe she’s a new author. Her writing is so good and nothing better than that combined with a sports romance story.
I was so excited to find out that the hero in the story was Chase, I’ve met him in the previous book in the series (The Games We Play) and I loved him!
This book is about Chase and Becca, two persons with too much at stake in their careers, she wants to succeed on her own by staying away from the shadow of her brother while Chase is the best catcher ever in the history of MLB and still wants to be..but something happens and suddenly he needs her to not lose what he lives for, while she needs him to keep a secret from everyone..I mean..a little lie can’t heart anyone..right? But what happens when the ball of lies keeps growing? The truth will be out sooner or later and nothing will ever be the same.
This book had me swooning since the very first page, I mean..hot baseball players!? and a sassy, brave, ambitious, determined, and intelligent heroine? Count me in! I love a good sports romance and this one did not disappoint, go grab your copy, you’ll devour it and still need more!
Becca and Chase have the perfect story. Although it begins on a lie on Becca’s part, but it’s for a reason. Sometimes you need to realize what you want in life and find out if it’s worth it! This book can be read as a stand-a-lone.
Let me just say it again, I love Katie Rae’s writing style! I love that her books are able to pull you in from the first page and usually it’s with laugh out loud humor. Becca and Chase’s story was so much fun to read with Chase’s cocky self always pushing for a reaction from Becca and Becca being the strong and sassy character that she was she certainly was not going to back down. With all the lies piling up I was sure things were going to get crazy and I wasn’t disappointed. I flew through the pages as both lies and truths were revealed up until the very end.
