An orphan’s life is harsh — and often short — in the mysterious island city of Camorr. But young Locke Lamora dodges death and slavery, becoming a thief under the tutelage of a gifted con artist. As leader of the band of light-fingered brothers known as the Gentleman Bastards, Locke is soon infamous, fooling even the underworld’s most feared ruler. I love this story! Its a fantasy that builds on different worlds and really interesting characters, I enjoyed it so much I am getting the other ones!
Definitely for you if you like other world inspired fiction with lots of action, friendship and loyalty!
One of the best books I’ve read in my forty-odd years of reading.
I thought I was going to enjoy a nice little distraction with a frothy heist story set in a fantasy world.
It is that. And: So. Much. Better.
It wasn’t long before I was saying – out loud – “what?! he did what? Really?”
Funny, but with plenty of gritty action, it was impossible to put down. I’ve just ordered the rest of the books in the series. …
I loved it. I actually listened to it rather than read it and the reader was absolutely amazing. I loved the setting – kind of a 17th/18th century Venice sort of setting. Very good. Read this one and the next two.
Love these books
Fantastic read, you cannot put down.
Very creative story line. Well written.
A fun combination of Mr. Fagan and the Artful Dodger and Ocean’s 11 cleverness….
I’ve raved about this book to every reader I know. The world-building is phenomenal — this is one of the very few times I’ve seen an author really consider what magic/alchemy means for everyday life. And it is consistent!
The background characters are great; they are as diverse as a real city. Old women are not invisible and have roles beyond …
Delightful read—fast paced, great characters—Oceans 11-type good hearted band of thieves—don’t miss it!
Locke follows a twisted path from rags to riches where the high-risk game is the point and riches just happen to result. He and his partners break underworld rules to con the protected aristocracy, but break their own rules in an attempt to save their city. Can love and loyalty survive greed, brutality, and the desire for vengeance in this …
One of my favorite books.
Pretty good starter book. Now that he’s put a few books out, tho, is the author gonna do a G.R.R. Martin & not finish the series?
Rather boring, glad to finish book and will not buy sequels.
A fun read. I purchased the next book in the series.
Highly recommended.
