Running away has always been something I’m good at. I’ve run far away from home and back again thinking that each time would be the last. But things are a lot different lately. I’ve learned that tides turn, seasons change, and sometimes, people do too. I haven’t seen Hoyt Blackburn in a decade because I was so convinced he wasn’t worth my time anymore. I guess this is where I’ve changed since I … where I’ve changed since I found out that his execution is one of those inevitable things that life handed him. I can’t ever remember him being a bad man, yet I can’t shake that something isn’t right about what’s happening to him.
Maybe it’s because I miss him.
Maybe it’s because I wanna lay eyes on the man one last time.
Will he remember me? Will he even care? I don’t know; the only thing I can honestly say for sure is that there are still some secrets we have left between us that have to be spoken before he draws his last breath. Otherwise, when that day comes, they may have just killed me too.

If you’re a reader of an indie romance you should presumably know who and what type of book does Yolanda Olson writes. She’s one of my favorites Dark/Taboo Romance writers out there in the indie realm. Her mind works like no other. She has this cunning ability to weave a tale that encircles within the storyline. Her style of writing is very intriguing – including a good (shocking plot twist). She has a way to pull you in and fell right down the rabbit hole. Then when it comes to her characters, they’re the quintessence of imperfections and human flaws.
And as a fan of her works, I felt like most of her catalogs are underrated and underappreciated (particularly the BOOK that I will be recommending in this post) just because I haven’t heard anyone talking about it, and it makes me so sad because I want readers to withstand the emotions and journey that she magnificently provides in her books.
Taboo and incestuous romance is not something that the consensus view as a conventional and good moral compass, and it’s just the reality. But delving into the fictional world is a great way of escapism primarily the predicament that we’re currently living in.
Anyhow my fucking point is, I love reading books that just not only fuck with my two brain cells but also test my reading boundaries – the DARKER the BETTER. The controversial and Taboo narrative is always been fascinating to me. Trigger warnings do not exist in my vocabulary (yay! Lucky me).
So if you have read HALE, THE WILD, THE FREE by K. Webster, RAW by Seven Rue, and R.I.P. by Charity B. yet you haven’t read THE LIES BETWEEN US by Yolanda Olson you’re missing out and I don’t know why for some reason this book fly under your radar!? Because the book alone is PERFECTION and UNPUTDOWNABLE.
My sole request is to go in BLIND by reading this gem. And I can promise you it’s all worth it .

Wow! This book was a sinfully fantastic! Lies and secrets run deep , with twist and turns you don’t see coming, will leave you with your jaw dropping. Gracie is determined to see her father to get the closure she desperately needs before his time is up on Death Row. With her childhood best friend turned boyfriend , Jori, they have always took care of each other. Their past is rough but they always had each other to rely on. But when the lies are revealed and the secrets exposed, everything thing will Blow your Mind!
If you are easily offended/triggers or can not read anything that has sexual abusive, self harm, or sexual content this is not your book.
What to say about this book but OH MY!
I love everything that Yolanda Olson writes and this book is a bit different than her other books but her way to surprise and throw me a curve ball is all the same.
I didn’t expect this story as I said it is different than what she has written but I loved every bit of this book.
It took me 4.5 hours to read since my heart was beating so fast and hard waiting for the big BOOM. Boy was there ever a big boom.
Gracie has been abused, torn and broken by all the ones that are suppose to love her. She is so broken that my heart cried out to her so many times throughout this book, BUT she never ever once stopped believing in her heart that somewhere in these “ugly” people it was her fault and she’d rather be at the end of their abuse than have others be abused. She has deep secrets that go so deep that the only one she feels safe enough to share it with is Jori.
Jori is a bit older and loves Gracie with everything that he is. He lives close by and watches Gracie through there treehouse. He is her protector, her best friend, and her absolute Hero. Jori has had a life of abuse and has never had anyone to protect him. He has always been the protector. He didn’t grow up with parents but was raised by an abusive woman who always let him remember that he was never wanted. Jori is gracious and loving man to Jori and will always be there for her. Caring for her and caring the secrets she has shared with him and the secret that he also bears alone.
Hoyt is Gracie’s father. A man who has worked hard and tried to take care of his little girl. Under his nose his Gracie is being abused by her psychotic mother and her pediphile uncle. But when Gracie is 9 years old when he is sent to prison on death row for murdering Gracie’s mother. Hoyt is now older and his time is almost up for lethal injection. He has the biggest secret of his own. One that can destroy so many lives.
All things come full circle when Gracie goes to visit him. Now she’s older. Has a life of her own with Jori. All of there lives are about to change and secrets will come out and the biggest Secret is one that will change EVERYTHING.
If you have never read anything by Yolanda Olson after reading this book you will be addicted.
Bravo Yolanda! Bravo!
To start with this is not the usual blood, guts and gore Yolanda usual writes, instead she had given us a mind twisting tale. You start reading this book and go aww this is gonna be a nice romance story…. NO that’s not what happens!!! It’s a story of love that maybe shouldn’t be. It’s a man trying to be the “hero” of his own story. It’s a tale of revenge. It’s a mind twisting tale of lust and greed. It’s a sad tale of the deplorable things people do to each other. You’ll love the characters then hate them. Then you’ll hate yourself for loving them again. Seriously it’s a book that needs to be read. Especially if you love her darker books. While not much blood is spilled. It makes up for it by making you question your morals. Lines will be crossed in this book, but it’s one of those damn what did I just read? I don’t know but I might need more of this.. type of books.
This book will keep you guessing until the end. With realistic characters making their way through their lives, this story will make you want to root for all the players to make it through. And the emotions are insane – you’ll laugh, cry and worry about everything taking place. Definitely a must read!!!
If you are familiar with Yolanda Olsen’s work you will notice it is a lot different then her previous work. There is no horror.
But just because the book is different doesn’t mean it is isn’t good. There are interesting characters, sadness, secrets within secrets and plenty of “What!!”moments.
It is a great read.
