Their love led to a lie
Their truth led to the end
Brigs McGregor is crawling out from the ashes. After losing his wife and son in a car accident and his job from his subsequent downward spiral, he’s finally moving forward, getting a prestigious … forward, getting a prestigious teaching position at the University of London and a new life in the city. Slowly, but surely, he’s pushing past the guilt and putting his tragic past behind him.
Until he sees her.
Natasha Trudeau once loved a man so much she thought she’d die without him. But their love was wrong, doomed from the start, and when their world crashed around them, Natasha was nearly buried in the rubble. It took years of moving on to forget him, and now that she’s in London, she’s ready to start again.
Until she sees him.
Because some loves are too dangerous to ever indulge.
And some loves are far too powerful to ignore.
Their love just might be the life and the death of them.

As I’ve come to expect with Karina Halle, ‘The Lie’ was raw and emotional. This is a story about forbidden soul mates that were plunged into the depths of rock bottom by the same event, an event that tore them apart and broke them completely. They clawed their way out separately (but just barely) and then found each other again. I have to believe this author has experienced the kind of soul deep love she writes about because how else could she write it so perfectly. Not everyone gets to experience this kind of love in life and those of us that do know all too well how that kind of connection will make you or break you. It will be your salvation or your destruction. These are two beautiful people that were both saved and destroyed by love. And it was both heartbreaking and beautiful. I loved all the books in this series. Always amazing, Karina.
I love everything Karina writes- this one was amazing. Briggs McGregor lost his wife and son 4 yrs ago and he is finally putting his life back together with a job teaching in London. He hasn’t seen Natasha Trudeau in four years, she is a student at the university. This book is about a second chance, revealing the truth behind lies they told themselves and others. Just a beautifully moving story that brought some tears. I love that we catch up with Lachlan and Kayla from The Play & Winter Wishes. Fantastic Read
I loved this story so much! There were a couple of parts that kicked me right in the feels.
When we met Brigs in The Play, I couldn’t wait to read his story. This story did not disappoint in my eyes, so well written. We got to read the good, the bad and the ugly between Brigs and Natasha. I don’t even care about the whole “touchy subject” matter of the story in my fake world. It was so much more than that. Their story sucked me in and I was rooting for them the whole time. I think each book keeps getting better and better. I can’t wait to read what’s next!!
“Our love was wrong. A lie we told ourseleves. And it cost us the world.”
I was intrigued by Brigs when I met him in The Play. I couldn’t wait to get to read his story. I knew it wouldn’t be an easy one. For four years Brigs has put a pause on his life and couldn’t LIVE because of guilt. I get where he is coming from, I think I would’ve felt the same way if I went through what he did.
“Just breathing the same air she breathes hurts me.”
The first reunion between Brigs and Natasha was painful. Natasha has tried to get over Brigs and start a new life. But seeing him again makes all her feelings come to surface. We get to see their story in present and flashbacks. I normally don’t like flashbacks that much but I really enjoyed them in The Lie. The flashbacks were necessary to get the full experience of their love. It was obvious that Natasha and Brigs are meant to be a.k.a. soulmates!
“You’ve done something to me, awakened a heart in my soul. You have completely enchanted me, my girl, and I am powerless against you. You’ve taken me from the start.”
Some parts were heartbreaking to read, especially when Brigs has a dream (you’ll know when you read it!). I shed a few tears during that scene. I loved how Tasha and Brigs healed eachother and realised that they still loved each other. However both were feeling guilty, especially Natasha, and she resisted at first. But that thankfully didn’t take too long (Brigs can be very convincing!!)
“The human heart isn’t meant to be caged by someone who doesn’t feed it.”
I love Brigs, and he is so sexy! I LOVED the sex scenes a LOT. It was like Brigs transformed and became something else, something more primal. I need a Brigs in my life: a gentleman on the streets but a freak in the sheets! I also loved Natasha’s character because she was so full of life and just perfect for Brigs. They really completed each other. Kayla and Lachlan made an appearance in this book which I really liked, I miss them a lot!
“We are forever surrounded by ashes. But we are fire. And fire rises.”
I am really looking forward to Karina’s next books. She keeps on surprising us readers and giving us such great stories!
I’m extremely disappointed in this book. I’ve read the first three in this series and this one was crap. I had 1.5 hours left on the audio and gave up. The book was overly dramatic and annoying. There was supposed to be this ‘tragic’ history between the two and it all played false. There’s a point of contention towards the end of the book that I’m assuming is supposed to be the one last obstacle between their current predicament and their everlasting happiness and I couldn’t care less. It was so absurd that I decided to unplug and find a different book to listen to. I’m not even sure if I had read vs listen to the book that I would like it any better. This book was awful.
