Another fantastic read from the mega talented Kiersten Modglin. This is the third book in the series and it was just as great as the other two. Her flawless writing and the tough as nails characters keep you invested from the first word until the very last one. I read this book in one sitting because I had to know how their story played out.
This book is about Gavin/Fletcher and Vaida/Maggie who both have a troubled past and lots of secrets that they keep from everyone, but will they trust each other enough to finally let go of those secrets and start living again? You’ll have to read this one to find out!!
This third in the Messes series was so very good. The books move at a fantastic pace but you are not left out any details of the story. I love the thriller ride we take with each new book in the series. You are always left wanting more when the story ends.
Fletcher and Vaida’s story is exceptional and just as involved and loving as the first two in the series. I love the characters quirks and flaws and realness with how they feel about their pasts and their coping and learning to trust just that one person. Their story is unique and brilliantly written!
One of the best things is that even when the odds are stacked against them, they stand by each other and fight for themselves. They also learn they are not as alone as they maybe thought they were.
Bring on more Kiersten Modglin, I am ready!

Kiersten Modglin
Kiersten Modglin is an award-winning author of bestselling psychological suspense novels. Kiersten lives in the rural Midwest with her husband, daughter, and their two Boston Terriers: Cedric and Georgie. She is best known for her unpredictable suspense, and her readers have dubbed her ‘The Queen of Twists.’
“And for all intents and purposes, I’m dead.”
Fletcher has lived a life that has been riddled with tragedy, masked by secrets. And he has worked hard to make sure no one ever gets close enough to ask any questions. Vaida blew into town, hoping to get a quick job to get some fast cash so she can keep moving… until she meets someone who makes her want to stick around.
Welp, as soon as my heart rate slowed down, back to an average speed, and I stopped breathing heavily, I had to stare at my Kindle. KMod knows how to write a story. Holy buckets.
This series is seriously so unlike anything I’ve read from Kiersten, but my goodness. This series has been a wild adventure. I loved getting to know the characters, and I love how choices are defined and how families are formed.
This story unravels into such chaos, and I promise you will not be able to stop reading. Even as your heart is racing and you are gasping for breath. The emotions will run a full, intense course. You will swoon, you will scream, you will cry, and you will be left clutching your pearls as you turn the page.
The characters in this book are so excellent. While I love Fletch and Vaida, I have to say the champion of this book for me was Cody. Give this book a read, and let me know who he reminds you of. He is everything you want in a secondary character.
Only Kiersten Modglin can tackle intense topics, handle them with absolute care, represent the survivors as badass and brave while creating a storyline that will both break your heart and make you stand up and cheer.
Of the three books I’ve read so far, I think this one has been the most dramatically intense. But the way the plot has been interwoven to connect the previous novels is beyond brilliant. This series showcases the absolute skill KMod possesses. The dynamic, incredible storytelling and insane twists will leave you completely shocked.
Another awesome book for this series. I loved the other books in this series, so I was looking forward to this book.
This is a story about Fletcher and Vaida. They are both broken souls who are trying to survive from both their past, and future. This is an emotional ride you don’t want to miss.
There were also quite a few twist and turns in this book and they had such a big impact. I didn’t see some of them coming as well.
Fletcher meets Vaida when she starts working at the diner he works at, Fletcher wants to get to know Vaida, while Vaida just wants to do her job and not get noticed. When Fletcher gets an unexpected call from his brother Vaida decides to help him and they go to Fletcher’s home town. These two have more in common than they truly realize and are bond and be there for each other.
Vaida was the main female character, and in this book she was keeping a big secret and her secret actually made my heart break for her. She also just wanted to be free and to be in control of her life. She was treated horribly, but she came a long way in this book and did what she had to do.
Fletcher was the main male character, and he was in the first book in this series. He was also keeping a big secret in this book, but he was more open with Vaida and actually told her quite quickly. Fletcher then just wanted to know Vaida and help her when she needed it! He definitely got more than he bargained for when it came to Vaida’s secret, but he supported her.
I’ve enjoyed this series and after the ending to The Liar, I look forward to the last book ‘The Prisoner’ in the series even more now. The title of this book suits it perfectly as well.
I love that this series is so aptly named messes. The author proves it on every single page just how messy life can be for two people in love. They both have secrets. Secrets that can get them both killed. There are many things to keep track of and carry to the next book in the series so reader beware. I can’t explain it cos it’ll ruin it for you. Don’t trust anyone and no matter how many times it’s said don’t get comfy because that comfort will get you killed. Believe the rating this book will definitely be a read that will send you thru the roof with emotions only to turn around and plummet face first. With betrayal of the highest order, and more lies than you can throw that will fly around like a boomerang it’s an awesome read. You will love Maggie because she’s a fighter who doesn’t give up and wants to believe in the people who have betrayed her. Gavin has proved he’s amazing by the sacrifices he’s made but he’s also made some questionable choices. These two have nothing to lose but their lives. The actions speak louder than words ever could as they band together with friends to support each other. It’s time for the liars to come clean with each other.
5 stars!! Ahh this book is full of dark secrets and even darker pasts!
This is book 3 in “The Messes” series and I believe can be read as a stand alone but to me it wouldn’t hold up like it did because I read the other two. I have been waiting for Gavin’s (or did I mean Fletcher?!?!) book since the last chapter of “The Cleaner”!!!!
Yes Fletcher!! I love him. He has a jacked up past and some crazy shit went down in the first book but I am still hot for him! And his new interest, Vaida, I am totally digging. Though the police thing didn’t fit in for me but the rest of her story was that of a survivor. Yes bitch, yes!!Anyway, this story is about two people with some serious baggage just trying to survive. And when two different set of demons are trying to bring you down why not fight together! Vaida and Fletcher… that is a match made in.. well not heaven. Lol.
The James family is always intriguing and by the end of this story I have a little suspicion that one crazy ass bitch has her own story coming soon. What is Miss Gia up to???
I totally loved all three books but I have to say this book is my favorite thus far. It was detailed, intriguing, a little mind fuckery, exposing, truthful, and crazy. There are some triggers and for people who have lived this life you will get gratification. You will feel empathy and pain and probably fall in love with these two just as me. I am in love with this author as well (hopefully she will forgive me for my late review because I can NOT miss out on ANY of her upcoming books!!), she is a master of words. And even if you have read many books in between you never forget her characters!! This is a MUST read.
**I received this book as an ARC and in return I gave my honest and late (we all know with the move and all the other crazy shit I got behind on reviews and trying to catch up) review (And I am super sorry and love all the kick ass authors still giving a girl a shot)!**
Damn! This one was a hard an emotional book! I couldn’t put it down though, I need it to know what was in store for fletcher and vaida. I laughed at his awkwardness while he try to hit on her but cry as I found out about her life. The Messer series is amazing we have Gunner James, Jesse, Fletcher I can’t wait to see what else she has in store for us.
The liar is book 3 in the Messes series, the series is mainly based around the James’ siblings and their home town. The Liar is Fletcher’s and Vaida’s story, from the first page these two characters will grab a hold of you and not let you go until the very last page.
Things starts to get real good at this point. These two have more in common than they truly realize and are bond and be there for each other.
“What Kind of messed up are we?”
Kiersten Modglin must be a god in her regular day to day life, she knows how to grab you from the first page and hang on to you until the very end. When she unexpectedly lets you go, you are left in a puddle of goo wanting more. She typically has me on the edge of my seat, I just can not read fast enough. One minute you think you know what is going to happen in the book and then… BAM!! You are blindsided with a juicy plot twist. I love how she writes, you can pick up any of her books in any of her series and read them without being confused. I personally can not wait until book 4 of the series comes out, I will then have my many questions answered.
I do highly recommend reading this book and any book by Kiersten Modglin.
Another fabulous book by Kiersten. An outstanding continuance to the Messes Series.
I loved Fletcher and Vadia’s story! It had me on the edge of my seat the entire time.
Fletcher and Vaida both have their own secrets and dark past. Trust isn’t an easy thing for either of them, but trusting each other may just be their salvation. These two don’t give up, not even when things take a sharp turn in a disastrous direction.
I love and recommend this series. I can’t wait for book 4!
WOW!!! This is book 3 and the story line gets more intense and will definitely keep you wanting to read and turn the pages. There was so many times I thought one thing and turned the page and nope it got a whole lot better! The ending had me gasp and can’t wait to see what is next! So in love with this series.
I did not expect this book to be about this but I was happy to be wrong. Fletcher and Viada are a really screwed up couple of people but screwed up in a good way. It shocks you and it does things you don’t expect but it is a perfect book for this series. Each book can be a standalone but they are connected and they keep you on your toes.
OMG!! This book is amazing. Love Fletcher and Vaida’s story. The third book in this series and they just keep getting better and better. The twists in this one, wow. Everyone needs to read these.
What can I say that has not been said. I was never into suspense or thrillers until I read Playing Jenna and Kiersten had me hookedhave 5 of Kiersten’s books and I can’t put them down once I start, The Liar was no different. Both Fletcher and Vaida are running from their past and meet at a diner. Kiersten keeps you on an emotional roller coaster, which I have come to enjoy, because I never know how the book will end I highly recommend.
Another great book in the Messes series! This is the book about Fletcher Denali aka Gavin from the Cleaner. Living his life as quietly as he can, Fletcher wants nothing more than to take care of his sister and move beyond his heartbreaking past. Enter Vaida another lost soul not looking to do moire than survive the past. These two are meant for each other but the past they each have is a force to be reckoned with. I don’t know how the author keeps making her stories better and more intense each time but she does and we are reaping the benefit. A crazy, emotional, intense ride. I loved this book perhaps more that I expected. A great series, you wont regret reading.
What is a connection? A relation of personal intimacy; a bond or common feeling between two people.
Fletcher and Vaida would never have met if they hadn’t been running away from their pasts. They are connected by their desire to start over as someone else and the hopes that they can have a better future than the one they left behind. They hated having to always look over their shoulders and couldn’t have a real life. Fletcher and Vaida needed each other because they both knew how it felt to be alone.
Fletcher was captivated by Vaida the moment she walked into the diner looking for a job. She was beautiful, a hard worker and at the same time, she had sad eyes and a “don’t bug me” demeanor. He hadn’t felt attracted to anyone in a long time and he wasn’t about to let her ignore him forever. He may have a life full of secrets, but he just wanted to let some happiness into his world.
Vaida just wants to keep her head down, save some money and decide where to go next, but she fears she will never feel safe anywhere She can’t go home, she has no one to talk to and she knows that any day could be her last. So when Fletcher attempted to talk to her and ask nosy questions, she shut him down and walked away.
Of course, that didn’t last long and when he needed her help, she looked in his sad eyes and knew she had to go with him. They had a spiritual connection that would hopefully keep them safe from danger.
I love romantic suspense books and Kiersten Modglin’s “The Liar” is filled with mysteries, secrets and past’s that are better left behind. As I turned page after page I tried to guess what was coming next, but I was always surprised. As with all of her books the storyline is intriguing, the characters are believable and danger is lurking behind every corner.
The Liar is book 3 in the Messes Series by Kiersrem Modglin. I have read the other 2 in the series and The Liar did not disappoint. Fletcher and Vaida’s story drew me in and kept me hanging on to every word. A definite page turner. Just when I thought I knew, I was hit with another twist. I hated that I had to put it down to go to bed. Lol Fletcher and Vaida are drawn to each other but don’t want to acknowledge it to each other. It’s a wild ride, so hang on to your seat. I can’t wait for more.
This is another amazing read in this series. The story will have you pulled in from the beginning to the end. There are plenty of twists and turns that will keep you guessing what’s going to happen next. This story about Fletcher and Vaida gives the feel of what some second chances could be for some people as well as the lengths they would go to for the person they love. An excellent storyline that intertwines the characters together nicely with an ending you won’t see coming, leaving you to wonder what will be next. I definitely recommend this story and series.
Book three of the messes series, The Liar is an intriguing and suspenseful must read. There were so many shocking and surprising twists in this story of Fletcher and Vaida (who are they really?) They both have secrets and insecurities and even though confess to feeling something for each other, they’re both reluctant to act on it. With an exceptionally written plotline (did I mention the shocking twists) and impressively detailed characters, this novel kept me completely engrossed. I pretty much read it straight through in one sitting. This entire series has been an attention grabbing, page turning thrill and one that I highly recommend reading.
Wow! The Messes series is full of intrigue and I couldn’t wait for The Liar to see what twists and turns this would bring. And, boy, did it bring those on in spades! The story of Fletcher (but is that his real name??) and Vaida (who is she really??) had me hooked from the very first paragraph. I couldn’t put it down and read it in one sitting! Fletcher and Vaida meet when she takes a job where Fletcher works. While there is definitely chemistry, they both are hesitant to act on it because of their pasts. They both have secrets in their lives and aren’t sure if a relationship could handle those. As I turned each page, this story kept me guessing throughout and so many times I was surprised when the secrets were revealed as I would never have guessed! The characters are clearly defined and you can envision what they look like. I truly enjoyed this book and this series and highly recommend that you read it! Truly suspenseful and full of intrigue!
This book is so good!!!! The Messes series does not disappoint and each book just gets better and better. Fletcher and Vaida are by far my favorite of the series! They are both running from a past that they don’t see a way out of, but yet they manage to find each other. But can they trust each other? Will their past come back to haunt them? You’ll have to read the book to find out, but I promise you it will be worth it!!! While it could be read as a stand alone, it is extremely helpful to read the first two books. I can’t wait for the next one!!
