Numbness floods my body as I stumble up the steps leading to my house. Inside I know my five-year-old’s bed is empty, her dresser is ransacked, her overnight bag is gone. I can see her dolls lying untouched through the window of our perfect family home – in the place where I thought I could protect her forever. My daughter is missing.
You’d think my first instinct would be to call the police.
But I know who’s taken my daughter.
And I know that the police can’t help me.
Only I can convince the woman who has my baby to give her back. She thinks she knows my secrets… but she has no idea.
Fans of Liane Moriarty, Sally Hepworth and The Girl on the Train will love this utterly unputdownable domestic thriller from USA Today bestselling author Nicola Marsh.

Oh the drama in this one had me rubbing my hands together with glee as I was transported to the fictional suburb of Hambridge Heights, Brooklyn and into the characters lives of vlogger Frankie, single mother Celeste and soon to be mother Saylor, where each has something to hide and plenty to lose if uncovered. There is nothing that I love more than a scandalous domestic thriller and Nicola Marsh has delivered this in spades with The Liar Next Door.
Narrated in turn by the three women, but predominantly by Frankie, I was completely enthralled by this tale and invested in each of their stories. Brought together by the close knit community and motherhood, the women form a friendship, albeit a tentative one and as the story progresses, it is always on your mind as to who is hiding the most behind their closed doors. When all is revealed and we learn how their secrets have them all entwined, it is done so in specular fashion!
As always Nicola Marsh does a fantastic job of keeping the reader engaged and wanting more. What I love about her style is how she draws the reader in and when you least expect it she throws in a twist! In the case of this story, the twists just kept coming from every direction and I nearly put my neck out as I furiously flicked the pages to know more. As a former physiotherapist before becoming a full time author, I really could have used her services when I was done reading this!
The Liar Next Door is a compelling read from beginning to its thrilling twisted end (loved it!). With a great plot and a strong cast of characters, this book is highly addictive and you just can’t let this one pass you by. A fabulous read which will be in the top 5 out of my top 10 best books for 2021.
Another great domestic thriller from author Nicola Marsh! Set in an insular enclave of Brooklyn, neighbors are congregating and putting their best foot forward. So many secrets, so many intertwined lives. Really good read!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!
It is a perfectly beautiful neighborhood. The people next door share dinners, barbeques, holiday celebrations, and a nice park that sits in the midst of lovely homes. It sounds perfect, except for the secrets. When a new neighbor moves in alarm bells go off for one of the residents. She has her own secrets but has a sense that something is not right with her new neighbor Celeste. Their young daughters, the same age become playmates and Celeste becomes part of the neighborhood. She worries that her husband Andre, who admitted a one-night stand after their marriage is attracted to her. Andre says she makes him uncomfortable too. Why then is she causing this uncomfortable feeling? Then there is the handsome fellow who is house sitting and his pregnant friend married to a minister. There are secrets and more secrets but the truth is elusive until it isn’t. A good story with a surprise ending. Thanks to #TheLiarNextDoor#NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This was a great read, kept me guessing the whole book. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, there was another twist.
The book tells the story of three neighbors, each with secrets from their pasts. Their lives become intertwined in more ways than they ever expected. Lots of secrets, lies, some jealousy, and a whole lot of twists and turns.
Hard to say too much without giving things away.
Another awesome read by Nicola Marsh. Her books never disappoint, and this was one of my favorites.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Nicola Marsh has written a great tale centring on three women Frankie, Celeste, and Saylor, living in the same street – Vintage Circle in Hambridge Heights, Brooklyn. Frankie Forbes is married to Andre and they have a daughter, five-year-old Luna. Five months pregnant Saylor Abernathy and Lloyd have been married for nine months and have recently moved into their home. Celeste is a single mum with a young daughter, Violette and she is keen to befriend Frankie and for their daughters to become besties.
The story starts with a steady trot as the three main characters are introduced. It’s obvious that each has a closet of secrets just waiting to be unearthed so of course I immediately found myself guessing and second-guessing what these might be. A super, tense thriller that I enjoyed immensely, this was one of those books where everyone is not particularly personable but this adds enrichment to the story, so you love it anyway. Very highly recommended, I look forward to Nicola Marsh’s next novel.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Bookouture via NetGalley and this review is my unbiased opinion.
