Shortlisted for the prestigious Winston Graham Historical Fiction Prize 2018, The Letter is a beautiful novel set in England between the First World War and the present day. Perfect for fans of Kate Morton, it is a story of family, forbidden love, and long kept secrets.
***** “One of my books of the year,” Being Anne.
***** “Will break your heart and touch your soul.” Amazon Vine reviewer.
This suspenseful novel is set in Cornwall and reminiscent of Daphne du Maurier and Rosamunde Pilcher. Romantic and moving, it is a tale of loss and love, the devastation of war and a homage to the lives shattered in the trenches and at home.
A #1 bestseller on Amazon UK, The Letter is a vivid novel of heart-break and passion, with characters – and an ending – the reader won’t forget.

This book was I interesting ,intriguing and very enjoyable .v
One of the best I’ve read this year. Stuck in my mind for quite awhile.
This is a fantastically told story. In the first part I marveled at how this author could so realistically describe the pain of losing a dearly loved one. I felt like she was describing my pain at every step of the way. The shift into part two (the bridge) was smooth and natural. The story began to open up into intrigue, plus a beautiful love story. A gentle , pure love. None of the trashy descriptive mental pictures so popular today. Part three was a continuation of a great story. All three parts were like books unto themselves and yet the transitions that brought all three together was as smooth as glass. I will definitely keep Ruth Saberton on my reading list.
A haunting and beautiful story, highly recommended as are the books that I have read by Ruth Saberton in the Polwenna Bay seies
This is a must read for those that like historial fiction. Beautiful story based partially on true story. Grab a box of tissues!!
I loved this book. The story was so sweet and romantic and sad! The love was eternal for those wonder young people, and the puzzle of their story solved by two other young people. Worth ready!
Wonderful book I loved how we popped from one century to another
So many facets in this book. You are drawn on a journey to many places, many times, many lives.
I’m not a fan of Downton Abbey and had never heard of the author, but I enjoyed the book, though it got off to a slow start. It takes place between WWI and present day, with a widow of almost three years struggling with who she is now. She moves to a new town in England to start over. Living in an old rectory, she is gradually pulled into an old mystery from WWI. The two stories intertwine and develop, with a search for what had happened years ago and how it relates to the present.
This is the most touching love story I have ever read. It takes place during the WW!
but the discoverer of this story lives 100 years later and becomes a sleuth trying to find out as to exactly what happened. I am not going to tell the story, but it is many faceted and truly amazing.
I LOVED this book.
Enjoyed the wonderful description of the author. What lovely pictures she painted with her words.
I was sad when it ended.
This is actually two stories in one. Well written book that was thoroughly enjoyable.
Could not put this book down. Fantastic summer read.
I loved this book. One of the best I have read lately.
Very different historical read. Well written, I really loved the characters
I truly enjoyed this book. Writing was simply above the norm. Well done!
I really loved this book. The prose was wonderful, descriptive and very well done. Great characters, full of twists and intrigue . Also very tragic. A great read, one I will think of often.
It is excellent and held my attention to the end. Left me wanting more.
I loved the transition of viewpoints in this story, and the time shifts. It’s great the way our current character was able to embody the idea of learning from our past. Really well-written, and engaging. I had a hard time putting it down.
Best book I’ve read in a long time,
