Shortlisted for the prestigious Winston Graham Historical Fiction Prize 2018, The Letter is a beautiful novel set in England between the First World War and the present day. Perfect for fans of Kate Morton, it is a story of family, forbidden love, and long kept secrets.
***** “One of my books of the year,” Being Anne.
***** “Will break your heart and touch your soul.” Amazon Vine reviewer.
This suspenseful novel is set in Cornwall and reminiscent of Daphne du Maurier and Rosamunde Pilcher. Romantic and moving, it is a tale of loss and love, the devastation of war and a homage to the lives shattered in the trenches and at home.
A #1 bestseller on Amazon UK, The Letter is a vivid novel of heart-break and passion, with characters – and an ending – the reader won’t forget.

Beautifully written. Great devilment of characters and beautiful Cornwall.
What a great story
I don’t normally read a romance novel but this book has a great wow factor
I thought it was going to be a pretty straightforward easy read book but I was greatly surprised.
The characters really come alive, especially Daisy and Kit.
I couldn’t put the book down until I had finished it
The settings put Cornwall in my eyes, I could even taste the salt in the air.
To me this is Ruth Sabertons finest book
I only bought it because I have read her Polwenna series and recognised her name
Well worth reading
I really enjoyed this WW1 story combined with a current day story of a young widow working through her grief to make a new life. Part of her journey involves learning about a young woman who lived in the same house 100 years before and her tragic love story. It gives her the courage to reach for love once again. This story has stayed with me.
A slow start, but I got hooked. Hard to put it down.
Loved it!!!!
Good beach read.
The writer wove a story of love and loss from a century ago to today. The author must have experienced loss in her life as her writing is very sincere.
I loved this book. Enjoyed it more than any book I have read in a long time. Hope they make a movie.
ABSOLUTELY loved it!
A wonderful book! This was my second time reading this book!
Wonderful. A very tender book in many ways. Enjoyable for history sake, and for the healing that takes place in two lives. I especially enjoyed the characters “speaking” at different times as the stories unfolded. Truly a double-story delight!
Enjoyed the history personalized.
This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. It is a beautifully written story about how people deal with tragic losses. It is empathetic, moving, and inspiring. I highly recommend it.
This is a beautifully written book, a beautiful story. The author researched WWI to be sure the historical facts were accurate. I loved this book and was sad when it ended.
I enjoyed reading this book. It’s amazing what you can glean from old letters.
Leave out the premarital sex and you have a winner!
Very enjoyable. Loved the differing timelines.
This was one of the most enjoyable books I’ve read lately. It was hard to put down once I got into it. The characters took you into their environment and made it feel very real.
I almost stopped reading this one – by chapter 5 it was still an exercise in reading about someone’s misery. I stuck it out though, as the unfolding events kept me engaged. I’m glad I did, as it was ultimately a tale of two love stories.
Good book. Starts a little slow and took a bit to get into. Like the overlap of the healing process and what main character learns from history. A little more romance than I like, however author keeps it clean without details which I appreciated.
