Sometimes life offers second chances … Crossing, Mississippi, has sworn off women.
Madeline’s curiosity is piqued when she finds an old letter hidden in her grandmother’s antique writing desk addressed to Josephine Amaud in Comfort Crossing. With Gil’s help, she tracks Josephine down and learns the letter is from her first beau, who disappeared suddenly many years ago.
While they search for Josephine’s lost love, both Gil and Madeline try to deny the attraction developing between them.
Can a big-city woman and a small-town businessman help to reunite the star-crossed lovers? And can they find a way to put aside their differences to build a future together in this sweet, heartwarming tale of love and forgiveness?
Maybe, just maybe, a second chance is all they really need.

This book brought this romantic story, set in two eras, to life. There were very believable characters who each had many layers. I felt as though I were right them with them as the story unfolded. I see why this was nominated for a literary prize.
Good book
Although not a “deep” book, it was enjoyable enough I’d read another in the series. The author does miss a couple of marks that lets the reader familiar with South Mississippi know she isn’t intimate with the local lexicon. For example, she has a character referring to a carbonated beverage as, “pop,” which is mid-western, not southern. Nor could she settle on whether the spelling of the local term for mother was, “mama,” or, “momma.” I’m aware that, “mama,” is the accepted spelling, but in that area it is definitely pronounced, “momma” with the accent on the first syllable.
boring
Sweet story.
I enjoyed reading this book and would like to read the others. I felt like I got to know the characters, and want to see what they are up to in the rest of the series. Also appreciate the clean language and lack of explicit sex scenes!
Nice story and loved the realistic New Orleans part.
The only thing was that we call them streetcars and not trolleys!
I loved that they characters were generally nice people. Great light reading.
It was an interesting story. Enjoyed the read.
Although a free novel it piqued my interest and what an enjoyable read. The characters were interesting. A truly romantic storyline based upon a romance that one could envision actually taking place. A sad, sweet and emotional novel that all should enjoy as this author’s words unfolded an endearing love story which survived the passage of time.
Cute story about lost love and new love
Great book
I wanted a story centered on the letter. This is a Romance novel.
It was an enjoyable read. I also read the other books in this series and found all to be a nice easy, entertaining read.
Enjoyed this book!
Sad reflection on a time when women had little control of their lives and class determined outcomes.
Slow paced and jumbled
Could not put the book down. Great family relationships
After a tragic loss, Madeline finds a letter under the paper in a drawer in her mother’s desk. Her search for the owner of the letter is an interesting search that leads her to many people and new experiences. This was a book that was easy to read because it was well written and the story was a good one.
I read this on my nook last night and could not put it down. It was funny, heart-warming, and an overall good book. I would recommend it to others. It was so good, I had to stay up past my bedtime to finish it. The characters were great, made you wish you knew this people and you could hang out with them.
The small town series by Correll is heartwarming. The friendships and love of family make the small town setting come alive. Interesting plot twists keep the story moving forward. I enjoyed the books and recommend them.
