The Legend of ZERO begins the epic journey of 14-year-old Joe Dobbs in a post-apocalyptic universe following a massive alien invasion of Earth. The oldest of the children drafted from humanity’s devastated planet, Joe is impressed into service by the alien Congressional Ground Force — and becomes the unwitting centerpiece in a millennia-long alien struggle for independence. Once his training … begins, one of the elusive and prophetic Trith appears to give Joe a spine chilling prophecy that the universe has been anticipating for millions of years: Joe will be the one to finally shatter the vast alien government known as Congress. And the Trith cannot lie…
But first Joe has to make it through bootcamp.

“Forging Zero” by Sara King. Fascinating, immersive sci-fi. An alien bootcamp that human children have to survive. Introduces a complicated world where not everything is as it seems and actions most definitely have consequences.
Wow! This is a great book!
Sara is in my top five of all time favorite authors. (I read 500 – 1000 books a year, so that’s saying something.) Her stuff is hard to categorize. The vibe of this one is military, maybe military fantasy? which isn’t really my “thing” but I adore the Zero series. It’s really hard to pigeonhole this series. It’s unique.
Her characters feel so …
It took me a few chapters to get into it, but then it had me. Can’t wait to read more.
I enjoyed Forging Zero immensely. Instead of the usual “Independence Day” space invasion scenario where the embattled humans manage to overcome all odds, this played out a more realistic, if terrifying, scenario.
The character development was strong and the story kept me reading late into the night. It is not your run-of-the-mill space opera! …
The first half was boring. There were details creating the environment. But it did pickup in the last half.
Really fun to read, but don’t think it has any touch with reality.
Not original in theme but a long, drawn out story that’s only difference is that it a war story told my a child on a different planet. Graphic and similar to many war stories. The characters are not completely believable. Very sad story.
Phenomenal tale of experience with aliens across the universe and a human champion
Very good read
I liked the premise of an alien race drafting children from earth into the intergalactic army. I was amused by the artificially enhanced growth and subsequent developmental struggles of the draftees. I look forward to reading more of the series.
This book is a blast. I was right there with the main character the entire time. I found the other books in the series and read them as well. Now I’m on the edge of my seat waiting for the new books. I highly recommend learning about Zero and his adventures as he enters the Congressional Army.
Somewhat difficult to follow the theme. Story morphed into battles among differing groups controlled by aliens, then pitting the humans against other alien species.
Too much child torture and I didn’t care for the ending. Sorry.
the first book was hard to put down it was so good and kept you wondering what was coming next on almost every page. The preview chapters of the 2nd book at the end of the 1st left me cold since it starts 20 year after the first book ends. I was looking forward to the adventures that Zero experience during that time and was very disappointed when …
The setting seemed reasonable even though there were aliens in other galaxies to battle
A little “Enders Game”, mixed with “The Colony” and a dollop of original. First book of the series is pretty good. I’ll reserve overall rating until i see the rest of the series.
The theme was interesting. Way too many characters with weird names. Hard to follow. I could not recommend it to a youth or an adult. A good one to avoid.
I was hooked from the first page, her righting style is easy to get lost in. The mental picture she paints of the aliens and the planet they are on is very descriptive. I’m glad I found this series and can’t wait to see where it goes from here
A little complicated with character names, but a good read
