Caution: Story contains strong profanity and descriptions of violent acts.
When a mutilated corpse is found bound to a tree deep in the forest of remote Aubrey Island, Washington, residents learn that the murder mirrors, in every ritualistic detail, a series of revenge killings described in a century-old local ghost story. More abductions and killings soon follow.
Justin Riddley, recently …
Justin Riddley, recently transferred to the island’s small college, faces growing evidence that one of his new friends and fellow students may be the murderer. John Marshall, redemption-seeking captain of the local police force, leads the frantic murder investigation and struggles to figure out whether the killings are tied to the island’s dark and violent past. Tormented by tragic wartime memories, and more convinced with each day that it is humanity’s fate to destroy itself, Marshall races against both the murderer and the specter of his own mental breakdown.
As blood continues to spill, Riddley and Marshall wonder whether there may be a dark, universal force that drives evil deeds great and small, and whether the nature of one’s childhood might sometimes, in the end, be all that separates the saint from the psychopath.

I enjoyed the characters, if this is a first book for the author, it was a very easy read. I enjoyed it.
This is a first rate book,it’s got great characters and many twists and turns…it’s a book that is so well written you just don’t want to put it down.
Didn’t know the outcome until the last and was a realistic picture of those going through the hells of childhood with abusive parents.
This is a wonderful story that you will remember. The characters are unique and to be remembered. The plot was exceptional. I was amazed how the author kept me wanting to know more of what happens throughout the book. This is a book to put on your to read list for sure! I want to read more from this author too!
Started out with a lot of potential to be great, but the loose ending left something to be desired. Story line was creepy & graphic which helped to keep things interesting. Several characters had major dysfunction & their own personal ‘mystery’ which gave the story many angles when trying to determine who the killer is & why. Found myself …
There was a lot of unnecessary content and detail in this book. The idea of the story is good, the writing is mediocre and like I said, lots of unnecessary details that had nothing to do with the story line. I did like the gory details of the murders though.
The twists and turns keep you on your toes. An engrossing read.
