Completely blown away!! Dylan Allen is so very good at weaving a story that is so different than all of the others. Confidence and Hayes’ story captivated me from the very beginning.
Allow me to introduce Hayes Rivers. Hayes is a no nonsense, dirty talking, blunt, arrogant, and at times self-righteous alpha, who is about to charm the pants off of you in this deliciously wicked romance.
Is there anything sexier than a romance centered around a power struggle between two very confident characters vying for control over everything in life? If there is, Hayes Rivers and Confidence Ryan have certainly never heard of it, and after you read their story, any other type of romance is unlikely to hold your interest. Confidence and Hayes set your Kindle ablaze testing this theory AND each other in full alarm, this is not a drill, heat level #5 fashion!
“You’re mine. My Queen. What do you have without your king?” he asks coldly.
“All the power.” I say.
Confidence was one incredible woman. In spite of being raised far beneath Hayes’s fortunate station in life, she challenged him and turned him on like no woman ever had. No matter her meager beginnings and a less than stellar childhood, Confidence had a passion for life, to do good, and to help people. It was too bad that she didn’t have the means to compliment her drive. She was relentless, positive, tenacious, stubborn, and a feisty force of a heroine. Hayes Rivers could not help but to be drawn to her, even though their first encounter was a bit counterproductive to say the least. lol
Talk about sparks flying; I was almost concerned fists would be flying with these two!
Hayes Rivers is heir to The Kingdom, and makes up one half of the town dynasty led by the Rivers and Wilde families that has spanned decades. Due to a tragic accident, Hayes inherits the keys to The Kingdom too early in life, thus placing the keys squarely in the eager hands of his Uncle Thomas until Hayes is of age to assume power. In the mean time, Hayes is sent to live with an unknown aunt in Italy while Thomas is at the helm of leadership…if that’s what you want to call it.
Years later, with Hayes as an adult, he returns to ensure the future of his legacy and family name.
The story as a whole takes place over quite the span of time. We meet Hayes as an impressionable teen, but walk with him through his tragic journey into adulthood scarred by broken dreams, disappointments, mistrust, and plagued by a somewhat jaded attitude.
Then….a chase encounter at a wedding places Confidence in his path.
A woman like her can only turn his life and his perspective upside down.
And does she ever!
Secrets surface, lies are told, perspectives change, and deception is no game for the fearful.
Combine these with the fire enhancing, inflammatory personality styles of two very take charge individuals, dominating one another at every turn, and you have one insanely combustible page-turning read that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat.
The end of this book will have you begging for more!
Give me Remington Wilde please!!!!!
Highly recommend!
I’m sorry to say that The Legacy was just not a book for me.
I just couldn’t get into the story.
The blurb got my interest, but I lost it around 20 % into the book. After that I had to force it, and that’s never good.
I didn’t like the characters, too superficial and not enough depth. Some of the writing wasn’t all that, it felt a bit rushed.
-Stina, A Woman & Her Books.
Once again I am in complete awe of Dylan Allen’s remarkable way with words!
This author is a stand out amongst all the other amazing, driven women in the romance industry. She is genuine, generous, beautiful and an all around wonderful human being . I read a lot and my taste is pretty diverse. Yet hands down I recommend Dylan’s books the most and with zero hesitation because they are ALL incredible. Impeccable, intelligent writing. Fully developed, relatable and endearing characters. A creative, unique and masterfully complex storyline that left me hungry for more. Perfectly timed twists and surprises. I need all the words for all these magnificent characters. I am reeling with the possibilities for the next book in this series because I know these characters have to be circling Dylan’s conscious waiting for their story to be told next. I can’t wait.
I love a strong heroine and Confidence is utter perfection through and through. She is proud, loyal, driven and I just can’t get enough of her. Hayes on the other hand had to win me over. He is handsome and wealthy but a good person that does not make. Both of these characters have a thoroughly complicated background. However when the unexpected happens and emotions run high – the chemistry that sparks is glorious and real. I felt all the emotions from head to toe – angst, lust, anger, disgust, annoyance, hope, tenderness and heaping dose of faith as this magnificent story unfolds. The Legacy is going to be a definite a re-read. I hope a future audiobook too – I can already hear the voices. Gah!
If you are a Dylan virgin – stop what you’re doing right now and read her work.
THE LEGACY by Dylan Allen once again demonstrates her talent in creating a couple whose love and attraction for each other is incredibly strong, fathoms deep and blistering hot. When these two were together and in relative harmony, they were a sheer and utter delight. However, when the disagreements came – and there were plenty of them, including some utterly childish ones – it felt like a soap opera.
Overall, there was just too much melodrama for my liking. First, there’s this Utopia-in-Houston the author is trying to build as part of this series that just did not add up. Then there’s a cast of characters whose personalities were so amped up they often came across as caricatures. This rang true for all characters; from the heroic to the villainous and everything in between. If I used a TV/movie analogy, it would be as if a few episodes of Dallas (sans shoulder pads) were merged with The Truman Show.
I also felt the book missed the mark in highlighting the prolonged issues any flooded community experiences. I don’t expect any author to provide a solution to such large and complex issues but you know what message I took away? Expect that help will come as long as you hook yourself to an uber-wealthy man who can throw money at issues the heroine deems fit.
I loved Hayes and Confidence when they were in accord. They were fabulous. Dynamite! It’s the rest of the book that just left me feeling disappointed and dissatisfied.
