My cup runneth over with more accolades and praise to Dylan Allen she slays with her beautiful stories of love and family. She twists her words together so brilliantly that you want to jump into the story to be a part of the magic. This by far is her best work to date and that was already a high bar to hit.
The Legacy was a captivating read full of suspense, sizzling passion and unforgettable characters that made me want to run away to Rivers Wilde.
From the prologue alone I was intrigued by Hayes Rivers and the more I learned about him the more I loved him. I mean who wouldn’t love a dirty- talking alpha who knows just what to say to make you melt in both English and Italian and feels everything so fiercely you can’t help but see it?
Hayes was a king amongst men and every king needs his queen, which is exactly what he found in Confidence. Confidence is one of my absolute favorite heroines. She owned who she was and made no excuses for it and never quit striving for exactly what she wanted. Seeing things through her eyes was quite eye-opening and I loved that she always stayed true to herself. Confidence and Hayes were quite the powerhouse together and the flames they generated had me fearing my Kindle might burst into flames before I finished their story.
The Legacy was a gripping, passionate, emotional pageturner I couldn’t put down. I enjoyed the amazing wild and unforgettable ride Confidence and Hayes took me on. Their story was an amazing read from start to finish and I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed that there is more to come from Rivers Wilde!
Hands down one of my best top reads this 2018 and I don’t say this sh!t lightly. I’m super picky with my books.
I am so in love with not just the characters but with the story itself and its setting. The vivid description of everything in this book from the way the characters fcuk each other; they’re palpable and undeniable sizzling hot chemistry to the things that surround them..Dylan Allen sure know how to please and make a reader go cray-cray!
Not one character was left out without a substance and each and every turn of the page will make you buuuurrrrn all the way down. I’m already finished reading the story but it makes me want to do a re-read and that’s super barely for me!
Dylan Allen sure knows how to pack a full to bursting sexual tension in her books and let’s also add to the fact that when she writes a story, she gave [her readers] a kind of world for her characters that everyone who will read her book will absolutely love, envy and crave! Isn’t she amazing?
And now I sit here and tapping my fingers for my The Legend countdown…
Who’s with me?!?!?!?!
Hayes Rivers comes from old money. His family has made money from natural gas, oil and sugar. At fourteen Hayes father dies, leaving him the heir to a massive fortune. In order to protect him from his money hungry uncle, Hayes is sent to Italy, to live a life away from everything he’s ever known.
Fast forward 16 years, he’s back, badder than ever, to take over the business that js rightfully his. Hayes has a one track mind, and he’s totally focused in getting back everything that’s been denied. A chance meeting however changes everything for Hayes.
He meets spunky, strong Confidece. Confidence could care less about his wealth. She’s not about to fall for a beautiful face. Confidence is the complete opposite of Hayes, being raised by a working mother. Life hasn’t been easy for Confidence, and the girls got goals. She needs to prove herself, wants to prove herself, and although she’s been kicked while she’s down, she’s tenacious.
I loved the push and pull between Confidence and Hayes. Both characters were headstrong, and stubborn, but they both sacrificed so they could be with each other. I loved the banter between the two. Their chemistry was amazing, and the story playing out in the backdrop kept me glued till the very end.
Amazing! This is my first Dylan Allen book and will not be my last. I could not put this book down.
I loved the story, the connection of these characters, the honesty, just everything.
Confidence- is true to her name, yes she was broken but she knows what she wants and stands up for it. Doesn’t take crap from anyone when she believes in something.
Hays is taking over his legacy…… as he struggles with situations, he knows how he feels for Confidence even though he keeps messing up with her.
This book takes readers on a journey, has twists and turns and keeps you wanting more. When Hays and Confidence allow real honesty and trust- its intense but beautiful!
The Legacy is my first Dylan Allen book and I loved the writing style and the overall story. I thought that the character development really played a part in how invested I became with the main characters.
Hayes Rivers has been groomed to take over his family’s powerful empire since he was fourteen years old. Everything that has happened in his life up until this moment has been to get him ready to keep up the Legacy of the River’s name. However, during that time, his family has done a pretty good number on this Legacy and Hayes is left to show everyone exactly what he can do.
He doesn’t have time for distractions but one weekend changes his life drastically. There’s something about Confidence that he is drawn too and the weekend the meet sets their whirlwind of a story in motion. What I loved the most about these two is that they never falter from their feelings. The other person always knows where the other stands, even if they aren’t in a good place in that exact moment.
There are so many off the wall twists and turns in The Legacy that it felt like a bit of a soap opera and I soaked every minute of it up. Sure, I felt like some of it was just over the top but I think that was what I loved so much. It kept me engaged and made my heart fall harder and harder for Hayes and he navigates through his life surrounded by his crazy family.
Confidence lives up to her name and I thought she was a really strong heroine. She’s stubborn and stands up for herself and might be the only person that can handle Hayes. I really like these two together. Especially with the sexy times. Whew, Hayes may have the biggest heart in the world but you can’t deny the appeal of his bedroom dominance. The mouth on that man will make everything melt.
If you are looking for all kinds of drama wrapped up in one steamy love story then you need to read The Legacy.

This is like a 2018 version of Knots Landing or Dynasty (I’m not dating myself or anything – btw I was a kid then, lol). Hayes River is the heir apparent of a huge dynasty. He has been waiting in the wings to take over the family empire when he turns 30. During that time he was burned so bad that relationships are the last thing he is looking for.
Confidence (yes that her name) was also burned and she’s not looking for anything long term either, but a hot one-night stand with a sexy, alpha man while she’s in Italy is not off the books. Of course Haynes makes a complete jerk of himself by making a lot of assumptions about Confidence and her intentions with him. And here starts the drama. This book was great. I can’t wait for more to come. (Review by Terri “Jane”)

Dylan Allen has turned up the heat!! The Legacy is truly on fire with the energy that flows between Confidence and Hayes. They are two of the most interesting kand complex characters I have encountered. Individually their stories are complicated and fascinating. Together they make a pair that is magnetic, high imapct, and completely enthralling. They are the epitome of a true power couple who support each other and perpetuate change the world.
I love the world that is Rivers Wilde. The diversity and inclusiveness that Dylan Allen always excellently makes part of her stories is strong and alive in this Houston-based community. Its broad international influences are magical. The way they intertwine to make Rivers Wilde thrive is one of the most fascinating features of the book.
The absolute best part of the book are the outstanding characters who leave their impressions in your heart and mind. Their convictions, struggles, and transformations are not just the stuff that stories are made of. These characters fight hard to make a difference in the world. Despite the less than pleasant circumstances life brings their way, these characters are hopeful and determined to live their best lives and make positive change in the human condition.
That being said, Dylan Allen has created a story which lays a strong foundation for this series. There are so many scrumptious morsels that stimulate the appetite and intrigue the imagination. Characters are introduced who make one want to know their stories. Secrets are unearthed that must surely be explored in future books. The way Dylan Allen whets the reader’s appetite while providing a beautifully satisfying literary experience is masterful. The Legacy is an intelligent, inspirational, and entertaining novel that leaves one salivating for the next installment of the Rivers Wilde Series.
What an incredible couple. Hayes has the weight of his families legacy and future dominance on his shoulders. Growing up with money and knowing he has to protect and grow what his family built puts him in a situation where trusting people doesn’t come easily. Confidence, she has pulled herself up from a difficult childhood yet she maintains her optimism and belief that doing the right thing is the only way. She is faced with a new challenge when her dream career is shattered by a scandal. From the first meeting between Hayes and Confidence, you know these two are going to push each other’s buttons and drive each other crazy. With all the expectations put upon Hayes, will he realize this amazing woman is his true salvation and life partner? Will Confidence be willing to embrace Hayes’ world for love? I love how Hayes and Confidence push each other out of their comfort zone. Add in the exciting and intense sexual chemistry for an all-consuming ride. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
This story is absolutely breathtaking! The Legacy captivated me from the very start. The chemistry between Hayes and Confidence is so explosive in the best way possible. This story is one you will get lost in. Multi-layered in so many ways,The Legacy is a gripping, thrilling and emotional rollercoaster ride that will give you all the feels!
Anyone who adores insta love stories is in for a treat. Hayes and Confidence fell hard and fast and I loved them for it.
I truly enjoyed everything about this story, the backgrounds of both characters was really interesting. Hayes came from everything and Confidence had nothing, and while they were brought up incredibly different I wouldn’t necessarily call this an opposites attract story but more of a like attracts like with them. Both were strong and passionate, they made each other better.
I’ve got to talk about my love for Confidence, like I said before she came from nothing. This only made her work harder and smarter than everyone around her. I freaking loved how she wanted Hayes but she didn’t need him. She sure as hell showed him that. Hayes was the perfect counterpart for her. He loved everything about her, and truly wanted an equal by his side. I love me an alpha in books, but I love alpha females that can hold their own too. That’s what you get here, a powerhouse of a couple with dynamite chemistry.
This whole world of Rivers Wilde has got my spidey senses tingling. I can’t wait to see where this series is going.
Legacy will have you from the very beginning from the twist and turns you will want to know whats going to happen next. Confidence is a strong female lead that we don’t see much of but I am so happy that we now have her. Hayes is the guy that you would dream up.
I have loved every book that Dylan Allen has written. Her words just pull you in and you fall in love with the characters. There were a few twists and turns in this book, which is great. A little angst never hurts! I loved everything about this book. Can’t wait to read Dylan’s next book!
I haven’t been gripped by a story of two wealthy, feuding Texas families since the 80’s TV show Dallas! Like the show Dallas, were we had the Ewings battling the Barnes family, in The Legacy we have the Wildes and the Rivers; old money vs. new money. Also like the show Dallas, Dylan Allen wove a story replete with sex, wealth, conflict, intrigue and power struggles. In the opening scenes we meet, Hayes Rivers, on the day of his fathers funeral. But Hayes isn’t at the funeral. Instead he as on the outer most part if his families property, the one that borders that of his rivals, the Wilde’s. With his fathers death, Hayes is his families heir in training as is the boy standing in from of him, Remington Wilde. Remington is his families heir apparant. Hayes has been raise to think of him as his nemesis, his rival. Someone to be hated. With the weight of his fathers death on his shoulders, 14 year old Hayes Rivers has no clue how his life is about to change.
16 years later, Hayes Rivers gets his first introduction to the women who will change his life forever. Confidence Ryan wasn’t born with a silver spoon in her mouth. Her inner strength, beauty (both inside and out), coupled with the fact that she is smart, sexy and ambitious and Hayes is drawn to her. Their chemistry is electric and burns hot. “Do you feel that?” she asks, her voice full of innocent wonder. My short beard brushes the soft, sweetly fragrant skin of her cheek. “Yeah, I do” “Do you think it is the air and the water?” “I think it is us,”….
If you are looking for a read that will suck you in and keep you riveted until the last page, then grab a copy of this wonderfully written book.
Holy Hotness. Be prepared romance readers because Hayes and Confidence are one scorching couple; I seriously was waiting for my iPad to melt due to all of the sensual and steamy goodness Dylan Allen delivers in Legacy.
But what’s most intriguing about this story is that its sizzle is not just due to Hayes and Confidence’s sexual chemistry or the way they burn up the sheets every time they come together; it’s their fiery personalities, their tenacious attitudes, and their resilient spirits that constantly challenge one another that continually keeps a flame burning between them, making the fact that they come from two different worlds a non-issue because there’s no way that Hayes won’t claim his queen, especially since the king has finally taken his throne, and even though he may not be completely sure about how he plans to rule or if he can truly carry on his legacy amidst all the unpredictability that this world brings, Hayes is determined to reign supreme.
With Hayes at the helm, Rivers Kingdom can flourish once again, but it’s not going to be easy; he has to contend with a litany of family secrets, digging the company out of a hole he didn’t create, and powering through a multitude of obstacles that have to be addressed before Hayes and his legacy can move forward.
Despite Confidence’s humble beginnings in terms of money, power, and prestige, she is one hell of a class act who knows her worth and works her butt off proving her strength, her intelligence, and her determination in all areas of her life. I love that she wouldn’t allow Hayes to walk all over her or use his position to force her to do his bidding and while there were times that she may have given in too easily to him, she does make him work to have her body, her mind, and perhaps even her heart.
I do have to admit that it took me quite a bit to figure out exactly who Hayes was and where he felt his place was, both personally and professionally, and while I adore a multifaceted hero, his jerkish behavior towards Confidence sometimes pissed me off…now that may be because of how much I adored Confidence and how I not only saw her as Hayes’ moral compass but also the person who could help him be the best version of himself, so his mistakes when it came to Confidence didn’t win him any favors with me, but the fact that Hayes makes amends and finds ways to prove himself to her, in the end, I knew that their pairing was just what both of them needed.
It’s quite an interesting world that Dylan Allen has crafted in Legacy, and because she’s only just introduced her readers to this new setting, secondary characters may not play a huge role in Hayes and Confidence’s story, but something tells me they will the further into the series readers go, and I can’t wait to see what Allen as in store for a few noteworthy ones.
Legacy is more than a romance; there’s lessons to be learned throughout the story about societal expectations and social status as well as the need to maintain a level of integrity and a healthy balance between the dictates of business and the necessity of personal connections.
4.5 Poison Apples
Yassss!!!!I read a super awesome book. I smiled. I swooned. I cried tears of joy. I was elated. I was beyond ecstatic. I truly have now words. The Legacy is BRILLIANT. Every word is butter. Every word is silky smooth. Every word caused inextinguishable fire in my soul. Wow. I am blown away. Heck, I am moved. By the characters. By the writing. By the sheer force of scenes that took my breath away. When you come across a book you love and you connect with it, you know you found something special. The Legacy is so special. The Legacy is erotic beauty on paper. My heart felt big. My soul ignited. My whole set on fire that I needed a fan. I adore Dylan Allen and her books have always stolen a piece of my heart every time I read them. Her words alone lures me deep into her world. A world so mesmerizing. A world so illuminating. Just like The Legacy.
The Legacy is the first book in the Rivers Wilde series. When Dylan Allen teased about The Legacy, I was so excited. Legit, did a happy dance. After, I got The Legacy and read it, I felt my heart melt. This story truly ruined me. I had butterflies in my stomach. I had light in my eyes, I had goosebumps on my skin. The Legacy paralyzed me with such a fun and sweet romance that brought enough bite to scar me. The Legacy brought heat to an unforgettable story that produced gorgeous flames. Sizzling. Delicious. Heart Warming. Soul Blazing. The Legacy is the sexiest romance that burned every part of me. Damn, I thought I needed an extinguisher to cool me down. The Legacy infiltrated my mind. The Legacy conquered my soul. The Legacy sweetly caressed my heart. I fell in love. With every page. With every chapter. With every scene. Dylan Allen just knows how to pull me into her stories. Her writing stays true and shines bright. You become connected. You feel it. On your skin. On your heart. On your soul. Her writing vibrates whether it is soul breaking book or a sweet and sexy book. The Legacy is a romance. A romance that makes you smile. A romance that makes you melt. A romance that makes you believe in love.
Dylan Allen’s characters are always smashing. In Legacy, you will meet Hayes and Confidence. I absolutely 100% fell irrevocably in love with Hayes and Confidence. Their chemistry just formed a connection with me. They had spice. They had electricity. They had love that illuminated brightly on the pages. I was truly pulled under. Confidence is a fire breathing dragon. Confident in who she is. Independent. Feisty. I felt her soul echoing. I felt her spark. I felt her spire. And it was freaking incredible. Definitely one of my favourite heroines I have ever read. Oh, sweet baby, Hayes. Hayes Rivers is everythingggg. The dirty mouth. The commanding nature. The protectiveness. I want my own Hayes. Le sigh. Hayes absolutely made me fan myself a lot. That damn dirty mouth.
The Legacy definitely cements as one of my favourite Dylan Allen books. I am so excited for the next book in the world of Rivers Wilde. Remington, I see you.
Dylan’s trademark is her “off the beaten path” stories which make you think and ponder. A fantastic
& deliberate attempt on her part to not give us the same old-same old, frivolous, cookie-cutter books flooding the market, is what makes them highly anticipated and awaited. Her charm and warmth seeps in the stories all the time
This book is from her bag of Tales From The South. Very Earthy, very heart-touching, very real.
It carries the smells of the Delta & the Mississippi. Salt of the Earth values of the Southern world where honour, integrity and family is still cherished above money, power and success.
The mighty Mississippi runs right through the Midwest, people’s lives are effected by its enormity and it’s power. It truely shapes the beliefs and characters of the inhabitants, I believe.
That river will roll over the delta whenever nature commands her to, without any regard for the best laid plans of mice and men.
Man Proposes ; God Disposes!
What was the accepted norm that Old Money and Bourgeoisie never mixed or were never on the same level, is shattered by this twisted tale of Greed & Avarice. Riverses & Wildes made up The Rivers Wilde
The enclave is home to the two families that it’s named after. The Rivers are old, Texas money. Sugar, oil, and natural gas are how they made their fortune. And with that bounty, they helped found the city of Houston. The Wildes are the new money. The bourgeoisie. They built their wealth in restaurants, grocery stores and real estate. And they have made a fortune that casts the old money into the shade.
The two heirs apparent -Remington Wilde and Hayes Rivers are bred with antagonism ingrained, which they must accept without logic. Hayes has a Family Legacy to live up to. Fill the big shoes of his Grandfather and his Father before him. The trouble is that down the generations the Legacy has become misdefined and unsynchronised with the changing times. The misplaced intentions and snobbery has blinded the “nobility” of the real things that matter in life.
“it’s like fucking Versailles. Your city is drowning and you’re dressed up because it’s Friday.”
Thankfully Hayes grows up in Italy and meets with a “commoner” Confidence Ryan and there’s a strong attraction. She is a typical daughter of the South, who has the tenacity and aggression to weather the biggest of storms in her life. She not only is strong willed and persistent, she steers Hayes on the real path of His legacy as well. She becomes his Moral Compass and doesn’t let him stray.
“philanthropic, but short-sighted men and faithless women. Our legacies— what we choose to leave of ourselves in this world— is up to us,”
“Inheritance is more than just money and name. It’s our values ; it the synchronicity between who we are in private and who we are when the world is watching.”
It’s like she was born into her name and grew up to fill it with her spirit- Confidence!!
Hence her nickname – “TB- Turd Blossom”
“To call yourself a real Texan, you’ve got to have had some shit dumped on you and come up smelling like roses,”
Full of compassion and empathy her heart bleeds for the downtrodden, on the back foot, down on their luck folks- her people. She stands for them and with them every chance she gets and gets real personal and passionate about thier causes and gets overinvolved and over invested. Which is a good thing! Also her relationship with Hayes is getting deeper and wider by the minute, just like the River itself
“I mean that you started like that for me. A pin prick sized drop of water on the very still waters of my life. And the minute you touched me, you caused a ripple that blurred everything I thought I was certain of.”
They land up back in Houston. The story then spreads out like The Delta, there’s calm waters on the surface but major upheavals underneath. Family politics, professional jealousy & rivalry, unexpected liaisons, surprising friendships and the dirty skeletons that come tumbling out of the closets majority effect the plot.
“And now, just like that river you love so much does, it winds its way south, you rush through me, and I’m drowning in you.”
Dylan has written the story with a folklore like feel. I was nodding my head in affirmation at places, was going tsk..tsk..tsk in others. I wanted to slap some people on their heads” didn’t your mama teach you anything” and was horrified at some. But I i thoroughly enjoyed the story. It’s spoke to me, touched me and just flowed right through me. The beautiful lines full of wisdom and good ol adage are what kept me entangled.
There’s two things I’d like to suggest here. I wish it was a duet because there’s so many things left unsaid which could’ve advanced or I’d say embellished the story a bit more. The Remi/Hayes rivalry could’ve been played upon a lot, there was so much potential there. Also some background stuff on their families, his life in italy-struggles and anger I’d have loved to read more of.
But again, it’s just my opinion as a humble reader. See the story was so good I didn’t want it to end and would’ve loved more juicy deets. Hopefully she will give Remington his own book soon..
I started the book with furrow on my brows by ended with a smile on my face.
So go ahead and pick up this book when it releases and enjoy the rich and lush story set in the fertile Mississippi Delta
my god of Sin, my Duke of Midnight, my renaissance man, my heartbreaker, my heart fixer, my everything– 4.5 stars to My King
I have to say for my first Dylan Allen story I was at first on the bubble for a while. The first 25% of the story is almost a get to know the past yous. Each of them telling us how they got to the spot they are in. And in the spot that Hayes and Confidence are in it really is kind of funny.
I enjoy Confidence greatly. She brings life into this story after what you read about Hayes. And I have to say Hayes can be a real jerk, but Confidence sticks to her guns.
I did find the attraction between these two off the charts. But the build with their relationship is what kept me reading. I loved it. I will be reading more of Dylan’s books.
The Legacy is the first book in the Rivers Wilde series. Finding out its set in Houston, Texas and so close to home is what intrigued me. We’re introduced to Hayes and Confidence. Both are complete opposites and headstrong. Coming from a different family background their first meet didn’t go so well. What they couldn’t fight was their attraction to one another. When they finally give in its explosive. These two will take you for a ride with lots of surprises along the way. Secrets are revealed changing the dynamics of their lives.
Amazing read and start to the series. I’m looking forward to where the story will take us.
“That’s how deep I’ve buried myself in your heart. You love me. You can’t turn that off, and I won’t pretend you have.”
*ARC received in exchange for an honest review*
What a journey we go on with this story! Dylan Allen has woven a story that has more twists and turns than a beautifully spun spiders web.
Confidence is a gal who has definitely been around the block a time or two. Life growing up was not easy for her. For years, it has just been her and her mother. Her mother working non-stop to put Confidence through college. Now its Confidence’s turn to take care of her mother.
Landing her first job as a lawyer hasn’t turned out the way she planned.
Hayes was born with the silver spoon in his mouth. Never wanting for anything. Being primed from day one to take over the legacy. Just as his father did and his grandfather did.
The years have passed, and Hayes is in full control.
Can a gal who doesn’t have a pedigree be accepted into the family that is full of proper breeding? These two have one heck of a battle to fight if they plan on staying together! Or will the members of the Legacy make sure that these two stay far apart?
What a great book!
The only thing that took a star away from the rating for me was…the ending. I felt like it was rushed. After uncovering such a wicked twist in the story, the reveal was made but the follow through was non-existent. Which for me, left me with wanting to know more.
