A ring is her only tie to a distant homeland, until a marooned Englishman anchors her heart. Hannah Rose Barrington is the island misfit. Orphaned at a young age, Hannah struggles to provide for her future, while her guardian, a weak-hearted island drunk, bleeds Hannah of her father’s inheritance. When Hannah rescues passengers from a ship breaking apart in the bay, she’s unexpectedly drawn to the witty charm of one of the men. Helping him settle into island life will be a pleasure. However, as creditors, like sharks, begin to circle and her guardian’s desperation becomes life-threatening, Hannah finds herself in need of rescue. Will Bradlee look past her pitiful situation to see who she truly is—the sugar baron’s daughter?

Lorri Dudley has done it again! Another great read that I couldn’t put down (I was up until 2am on a work night!). I love a strong but flawed character and both Hannah and Bradlee have their strengths and weaknesses. Dudley’s character development and humor creates an inspirational and entertaining story. Hannah’s the kind of heroine that you would want for your best friend. And Bradlee is just what a female reader wants in her hero. I highly recommend The Sugar Baron’s Ring. You won’t be disappointed.
Another wonderful, superb tale of the Leeward Islands! It’s definitely a standalone book as these stories don’t build on each other but I would definitely recommend reading all of them. They are amazing! In this story, Hannah just astounded me at her ability to continue to get up every time she was knocked down. Talk about resilient! I can’t tell you how many times in this book she either has bad luck or forces beyond her control cause her to lose everything but she never gives up! I learned a lot from her! People in the book did too! She was a wonderful example of faith and love and kindness. I can’t give examples or there would be spoilers but take it from me, she’s a fantastic characters! From the opening scene when she saves the shipwrecked sailors from shark-infested waters, until the last page, she is amazing! In that opening scene, she meets (and saves) Bradlee. He’s going on a Grand Tour from England as a way of using it to graduate college. Since he loses all his money, he can’t return to England just yet so it stuck on the island and gets to know Hannah. The two of them change each other in so many ways! I just loved this book and wished it would have gone on and on. I highly recommend it!
Anyone else just love a good traveling adventurous story? I do. Lorri Dudley’s Leeward Island series take me to a place full of adventure. All the books can be read as standalone books, you do run into familiar characters at various points in the books but they are just passing mentions and do not leave you feeling like you are missing something; I always look forward to seeing how the former characters are doing now . This third book in the series is my favorite so far.
The Characters.
I LOVED the main character Hannah; she behaves respectably, even when the people she continues to show respect to treat her badly. She also shows great courage, an adventurous spirit, and a love for helping others. There were so many good qualities to her, I just loved her character. Hannah’s counterpart Bradlee was a fun character as well. I enjoyed his sense of humor and the way he and Hannah interacted; it was very sweet. I loved how both Bradlee and Hannah had different lessons to learn and difficulties to overcome. Hannah and Bradlee were very well rounded and I felt myself very much in love with them by the end of the story. The secondary characters in the book enhanced the whole experience and they had some great stories of their own interwoven with Hannah and Bradlee’s.
The Storyline.
I loved the vivid descriptions of the Leeward Islands in this book (Something I am coming to expect from Lorri Dudley!), they made me feel like I was the one climbing a waterfall, smelling the fresh salty ocean air and getting my feet covered with sand. I quite enjoyed it. The storyline was also fascinating, it pulled me in right from the beginning (just read the first chapter and you’ll see what I mean), it had adventures, some valuable life lessons, and best of all a deep reliance on God guiding our steps in life.
I truly enjoyed this story and I am loving seeing the growth in Lorri Dudleys writing through this series! Her writing style is very similar to Misty M. Beller, and Roseanne M. White. I highly recommend this story and give it 5 out of 5 stars!
* I volunteered to read this book in return for my honest feedback. The thoughts and opinions expressed within are my own.
The very beginning of this book caught my attention with an impending shipwreck about to happen to Bradlee. Hannah, living on the island, sees what is happening to the ship and rushes to rescue as many people as she can. I can not imagine what it would be like to know your parents died in a shipwreck years ago, and then see another shipwreck happen before your own eyes.
From the very beginning, Bradlee and Hannah seem to need each other to have a bright future. Hannah has had a hard life, but God and her faith have gotten her through it all. She shows the strength we can receive from God.
Having a guardian squandering her inheritance breaks my heart for Hannah. Truly, she deserves happiness and more.
Bradlee seems to flounder in life as well as in the water when the shipwreck. But when Hannah needs him the most, he steps up and demonstrates courage.
So check out this book for yourself. I definitely recommend it

This has been a great series! I have enjoyed each of the strong female leads in the novels and Hannah, the heroine in this third book, might be one of my favorites so far! I like her quiet, independent spirit; her kind, generous nature; and her sweet, compassionate care. The spiritual truth of trusting God to take a bad situation and turn it around for good was evident throughout the story. The setting, on the Nevis Island, was easy to picture as the author did a good job describing the humid heat and chattering monkeys. There are some family secrets and twists to the plot that keep it interesting. Overall, I enjoyed this story and look forward to the next one in the series!

Exceptionally brave Hannah and explorer Bradlee
Hannah’s sweet and calm disposition charmed me all the way through this book. A woman who did not shy away from a challenge. I admired how she was able to hold her head high up despite what she was going to. I loved how she found herself, her identity in God and his purpose for her life. Her fierce spirit was what save Brandlee and a whole bunch of others after their shipwrecked. I admired how he stood up for her and protected her even going out of his way to sacrifice for her wellbeing.
Beautiful story of love, sacrifice, faith, realising ones identity in Christ and family.
I recieved a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
