Interview with the Author
Q – So, what makes the Hearts and Houses British Short Story Series special?
A – It’s a mix of things, really. When I set out to write these books, I wanted to create something that mirrored exactly the kind of books I like to read. My top picks are usually, rural mysteries, British Chick Lit, any of the thousands of cozy mystery bestsellers, and, of course, books featuring good old fashioned small town justice. Basically, anything with a kick-ass attitude and some romantic tension gets my vote. I love getting away from predictable women sleuths mysteries!
The Hearts and Houses books are a great mix of these genres. You’ll find the series focuses on the fun mystery thriller suspense / Chick Lit genre overall, with some clean and wholesome romance and drama thrown in for good measure.
Overall, the Hearts and Houses series is designed to keep you turning the pages – and I’ve made sure there’s never a dull moment.
Q – What order should I read the books in?
A – This series is one that can be read in any order! However, they are best read in this order:
-The Lavender of Larch hall
-The Leaves of Llewellyn Keep
-The Snow of Severly Castle
-The Frost of Friston Manor
-The Heart of Heathley House
Q – So, why should readers give these books a try?
A – Because the Hearts and Houses series is a dramatic, suspense filled, British short story series that takes no prisoners! The characters and settings are so unusual that I guarantee you won’t have read anything like it before.
Ultimately, readers who enjoy cozy mystery series with plots that twist and turn all the way to the end will get a kick out of this series.
And thanks for reading!

A fun and quick read for young adults with a little mystery, romance, and treasure hunting. I’m happy to say there were a couple of surprise twists that caught me off guard. Hopefully, the characters will be more developed in the next books along with more historical details.
Being an historian lets Emily spend time researching documents and other items in old manors, castles, and other buildings. Quite often it is old recipes, but once in awhile something exciting turns up.
In The Lavender of Larch Hall Emily discovers an old love letter that implies there may be treasure hidden under the lavender in the garden. She meets much opposition from the head gardener when she wants to dig up the bushes. Then day Rob, the gardener, finds the bushes in a mess and accuses Emily. Will Emily be able to decipher the clues, stay ahead of the others who want the treasure and bring everything to a satisfying conclusion? With memorable characters and a well written plot, you should enjoy this mystery.
This was a very interesting mystery! I loved all the historical references and what Emily actually did for a living! Of course sprinkle in a mystery and it becomes an immensely entertaining line of work! It was very enjoyable to read and I am most definitely looking forward to her next adventure!
Blooming #1 – A quick, fun read with bits of suspense. Armed with self-doubt in the beginning, the main character uses integrity, determination and hard work to succeed and becomes an outstanding young woman while changing the life of the people around her. This book is filled with humor and suspense. The author did a good job with this book; still needs editing. But this recent work is vastly superior over her earlier writings. Like the main character, she persevered, too. 5*
Holly Winters books 1-4 5* Ms. Loren re-edited this series.
Snowed In With Death #1 – Just so silly, it’s funny. A humorous whodunit filled with the egos of six private detectives and a young female amateur sleuth. Even with the disdainful PIs present, the young woman shows them up. Just perfect for a few minutes of humor filled relaxation. 5*
A Fatal Frost #2 – Two stories in one. This book picks up where Snowed In With Death stops. The perfect breakfast opens the story! Another well written, quick murder mystery with our two characters from SIWD. The plot was interesting and kept the reader’s attention; great for a lunch break or a few moments of relaxation. I contacted the author to review her books after reading the ones I had in my Amazon library. 5*
Murder Beneath the Mistletoe #3 – An interesting story, a little more substantial than the first two books in this series. The characters are interesting, although one disappears without really knowing what’s up with him. The ending is kinda cool, which of course is where the next book picks up. 5*
Winter’s Last Victim #4 – Picks up where Murder Beneath the Mistletoe stopped. These four stories are related in more than one way. Interesting plot, the same good and bad character types and a new member to Holly’s “gang”. Plenty of humor, along with a couple of surprises. 5*
