Book Pipeline 2017 Grand Prize Winner Winner of the Audiofile Magazine 2018 Earphones Award for FictionFor fans of Lauren Oliver and Kazuo Ishiguro, The Last to See Me is a spellbinding American ghost story deftly weaving past and present into an unforgettable narrative about a young woman’s fight for a life of her own—long after her life is over. Over one hundred years ago, Emma Rose Finnis was … over.
Over one hundred years ago, Emma Rose Finnis was born and died in the remote northern California town she now haunts. When she was alive, she was a lowly chambermaid and worse, a Finnis. Now, no one remembers her hardworking life and her grand dreams—because there are none left to remember. In a world where phantoms are considered “unclean,” the spirits of her town have already been swept away. All except Emma Rose.
But when a determined hunter arrives with instructions to extinguish her once and for all, Emma Rose refuses to be hounded from her haunt, the stately Lambry Mansion. She’s earned her place and she’ll keep it—even if it means waging a war on the living. After all, she’s got nothing left to lose. The same might not be said for those who still enjoy the luxury of a breath . . .

This is a quick read about a haunted house.
What a weird book. It is not a typical genre for me. The story was wonderfully told and I enjoyed reading about the lives past and present, I guess I’m not really sure what to think of the end. I’ve read the last two chapters twice and need to think on them.
Up to the last chapter, I would have given it 5 stars. Hated the ending. Fuzzy and unsatisfying even after I read it again.
Disappointing ending.
Stopped reading about half way through Hard to follow the characters and the plot.
I loved everything about this book except the ending which confused me a little. Still a great little page turner!
My kind of Gothic, ghost story….simply loved it…swept me away
Great read.
Good premise and character development. Avoids some expected developments and the pace is good. I found aspects of the ending a bit confusing, but would recommend overall.
This is definitely that kind of book that you can’t put down. I read it in two evenings and stayed up until 1:30am to finish it. The storyline is ingenious and well-crafted, and the characters are fascinating!
A unique ghost story narrated by the ghost! Very interesting and not scary, so enjoyable reading at bedtime. Easy reading up until the end. Had to re-read last chapters to understand what happened. Definitely recommend! Very Original!
It took a while to ensnare me, but now I can’t put it down.
Unique from the ghost’s point of view. Haunting, compelling, dreary
I couldn’t stop reading this book. Original and told in a very creative way. It’s a story of ghosts, but not scary. This is not a horror story. I really enjoyed this book.
Confusing ending. Left me hanging in mid air. I was excited to read it in the beginning, however, after a time I had to scan quickly through some parts as it tended to slow down and or repeat. Sometimes the author would ramble and or be in another time and not really give an indication thats where we were headed and I’d have to reread a few pages again to catch back up. Ending was a bit of a let down.
I could not put this book down…hated for it to end…would make a great movie.
A well-written, excellent book! No corny hauntings here – and it keeps you guessing.
