This was a rather different book. It was humorous with a very deadly side. It is a murder mystery with different twists. An excellent cop heading on a downhill spiral recognized he needed to get out of the profession for his sanity and infant son. He becomes a teacher in a rural area. Soon after beginning his job the first murder occurs and he is back in the detective game.
Excellent writing…
Loved this book, and I read all the others in this series. They were all funny but also kind of serious. The lead character in the book is funny but also very serious. The depth of emotion also brings an interesting level to this book and the others in.the series. You gotta read them all!
Clever writing by Alan Lee. As always, strong character development. MacKenzie August is one of my favorite private eye characters. He’s a little bit of all the greats. Philosophical, funny, easy to read. I feel a bit wiser after reading a MacKenzie August novel. Maybe his wit & wisdom rub off through the pages.
Great story!
Finally, a suitable heir to Robert B. Parker’s Spenser. Mack August is funny, smart, and morally conflicted. He’s a PI for the New Millennium.
Great book!
I enjoyed it.
Fast paced, witty dialogue, and believable hero character. Good supporting characters. Would love to find more books like this one. I’m envious of the hero. He’s got the Kimber I want!
The story flowed like rippling river with a number of twist and turns. The type of story that you don’t want to put down and are disappointed that it has to end.
The book name sounded boring, WRONG! Loved the main character. Really good story.
As a stand alone, it was great.
I loved the ending never saw it coming
good tead unexpected plot turns original and an author worth following
wanted to keep reading to the end . Holds your attention.
I loved the main character. He had character.
Quirky yet believable. A well-written tale of a terrific lead character.
Kept me reading til I finished the book. Enjoyed the characters and storyline was original.
The basic story was good. However, the author writes too much about his thinly veiled Christian philosophy through the characters. If he wants to write a Christian novel, it should be billed as such.
While I liked the story, the characters, and they mystery, I found the (what I assumed to be) sarcastic wit fell a bit short.
