Love this book! I started reading it last night during a bout of insomnia…and ceased even wanting to go to sleep! The writing is hilarious in a natural way. The characters are quirky but real. I laugh at how ridiculous they are, then think….Yeah, I know somebody like that. The author has the ability to take everyday situations (well, finding a body isn’t really an everyday situation!) and everyday people then show us the humor. This is my first Alan Lee book, but I am going to read all of them.
Wish they had a 4 1/2 stars. Felt a little, just a very little, forced as a prequel to explain some of Mack’s past for his series. Usual good, fast paced story with a touch of humor added in i have come to expect from M. Lee.
McKenzie, a former cop, becomes a teacher. When a person is killed at his school he gets involved because of his background. A great story follows. Must read!
He hated the killing, he had his baby son to protect, but he could not walk away from responsibility to others, even though he switched to being a teacher. A brilliant book a conflicted heart, a subtle mind.
Enjoyed this book and the main character has a great sense of humor
Good lead character, very funny. Good easy read between heavier novels.
The main character has a smart mouth, but it endears him to everyone but guys with big egos. I loved his dialogue and the story was a page turner with a surprise ending. I immediately looked for more books with this character, but they are only in print. I have vision problems so can only read ebooks because I can enlarge the print. Maybe someday the other stories will be on Nook.
Another great book in the series!
Loved it. Went through the whole series. Can wait for new ones.
I have read most of the series. The writer brings Christianity into the story line but uses Got-damn which doesn’t totally keep the characters from taking the Lord’s name in vain and out and out uses the name of Jesus as an exclamation. Mack’s lines are creative and funnny.
I really enjoyed this book. There was a good flow of adventure and suspense. And I like characters who are real about their flaws and efforts to overcome them. I would like to read more by this author.
A really good book that I enjoyed reading.
Mackenzie August is somewhere between Spenser and Reacher – cocky, etc
A little too much Jesus stuff for me but otherwise a great read
A male teacher and his nine-month old baby in the middle of ‘gun’ fights is a unique character setup. But the author pulled it off amazingly well and almost entirely believable. Mothers and children in danger is a common theme, but a guy and his baby is different. The horny female co-worker that was constantly after him was funny but a little overdone; still enjoyable, added a little humor. You won’t guess who the killer is until the end.
I enjoyed the characters . The concise writing , the guessing of who did it . The characters are believable . The main character is trying to be a better person . I usually read female authors (cozy mystery) this was a step in to a male author . I liked the male perspective .
Well written
Not up to the caliber of author thatI am used to reading.
Great mystery read. Well written and enjoyable.
Couldn’t put it down until I was finished.
Fun read.
