What would it take to get one last chance? Joey Greer is done having her heart broken. Eight years ago, after a horrific car accident, Jackson Pierce—her high school sweetheart—abandoned her. Abandoned his family. Abandoned the town they’d both grown up in, and fled to Hollywood. He never looked back, and she never forgot him. Or forgave him. Now he’s back, pretending like the past doesn’t … back, pretending like the past doesn’t exist, wanting another chance. And even though she still feels the undeniable connection between them, the fiery attraction that burns her up from the inside out, Joey’s determined to keep him at a safe distance.
Jackson Pierce can’t tell Joey the truth about the night when he left her in the hospital. It would ruin more than just their relationship, and he can’t do that to her.
The entire town of Blue Moon knows that Jax and Joey are meant for each other, but Joey isn’t interested in giving him a second chance. All he can do is give her flowers. And picnic lunches. And a dog.
Oh, and handcuff himself to her for charity.
Will this second chance be the last one Jax needs to win back Joey’s heart, or is the past too much to forgive?

What a fabulous revisit to the Pierce Brothers and Blue Moon. I loved everything about this book. Well written, nicely paced, sexy and sweet! Jax and Joey’s story was everything I hoped it would be. So much heart and soul!
Lucy Score has quickly become my “go to” author for anything and everything romcom. Her writing style is captivating, her stories are sweet, funny, steamy and have all the feels!
This second chance love story of Jax and Joey was such a great read I could not put it down and read it in one sitting!
I have to admit I started this series with Carter’s story and loved it so much I didn’t see what the remaining stories in the series would offer. So I returned the book and forgot about Blue Moon and all its quirky citizenry.
I went back to Carter and reread his and Summer’s story. Still loved him the second time around but decided to read on. By the time I read Beckett and Gia’s story ( and loved it), I knew the one I was waiting for was Joey and Jax.
I’m a big fan of Lucy Score but this one really got me. Normally I don’t like stories with inserts from previous time periods. Reading the journal notes from John Pierce really connected a lot of dots for me and was so heartwarming to read. It really brought a lot of the Blue Moon story together for me in such a way that warmed my soul. I truly loved Jax and Joey’s love story and it is my new favorite for sure.
Blue Moon – thank you for all the quirkiness and feel goods.
So far my favorite of this series. The rolling fart circus had me on the floor crying and laughing uncontrollably. Jax and Joey had some history to go through and make up for but these two are made for each other. You experience what these two are going through and can’t help but immerse yourself in their story. A terrific series so far and I cannot wait to continue on to the next.
Joey Greer is my soul sister, she rocks life and I wish I had her in my real life! Jax Pierce may have made some mistakes, but he’s back and he’s going to win the love of his life back no matter the cost. Throw in some good pierce family fun, one crazy goat and some horses. This is by far my favorite blue moon book in the whole series. I just connected with Joey so much, and I read this book a lot when I feel like reconnecting with her. Also she has a tub outside on her deck….yes please!
I fell in love with the Pierce brothers in the first book of the Blue Moon series and now two books later I adore them even more. Add in their women and surrounding characters and it just keeps getting better and better. The brothers antics and interactions with one another and their wives will have you chuckling if not laughing out loud. There are some beautifully poignant moments provided by Lucy Score as she allows us to get to know the late John Pierce from his writings. It really added to emotional impact of this romance.
Jax has loved Joey since kindergarten it seems. They were each other’s firsts in many things. One fateful night it was all ripped away but he’s back eight years later to prove they belong together. To say that Joey is not receptive to his overtures is the understatement of the year. He hurt her and that’s not forgivable. It takes an all out campaign to win Joey back with Jax spearheading it and the Blue Moon Beautification Committee along with all the local citizens to finally put these two back together.
Finally I find out Joey and Jax’s story. Before you continue reading, if you have not read Book 1 and 2 of this series, do not read any further. You have been warned!
Jackson Pierce is back in Blue Moon after leaving 8 years ago with his tail and heart between his legs. Joey and Jax grew up together and fell in love as teenagers. They had so many dreams and plans until the night of the car accident. With so much guilt and other things, Jax hightailed it out of Blue Moon to California where he studied and became hot shot Hollywood screenwriter. He knew he would someday come back to Blue Moon, and it took and article that Summer wrote (read book 1 now) for him to hightail it back and win his woman over. Oh but Joey was not having none of it! She’s too busy working for the other Pierce brothers on the farm and training kids how to ride horses. She too has bigger dreams, but for some reason she doesn’t think she’s part of the Pierce family. Well she will be in for a surprise.
Jax had a lot of groveling to do, but more so, he needed to explain why he left the way he did. When it all unravels, you will need some tissues.
I definitely hooked and cannot wait to read about Gia’s sister next.
I’ve have never snort laughed until I read this entire series – the people of Blue Moon are so quirky and yet realistic. The antics the town, the animals and the characters get themselves into are truly one of a kind writing.
As far as this particular book – love is not love unless you have a goat trying to eat your pants!
I love the Blue Moon series! Jax and Joey’s story is a great addition to the series. It is a story of young love, lost time and reunition. Lucy Score does such a great job of writing these books and I would read anything she wrote. She has yet to disappoint.
A wickedly awesome story of last chances. We meet Jax a handsome Hollywood screen play writer who has returned to his home town to help his family with struggling farm. Jax left two eight years before after a traffic accident hospitalized Joey his life long love. Jax has been in town laying low when he finally approaches Joey. He tells her he came back for her, it isn’t over. This is their struggle to find truth, trust, family, forgiveness and love. Definitely a good read.
More like 4.5/5. Loved this love since childhood, second chance story. Well edited.
Jackson and Joey have been in love since they were children. Just before their high school graduation, an accident sends their lives in different directions. 8 years later finds Jackson (Jax) a successful screenwriter and Joey still working with horses on the Pierce family farm. Joey has never forgiven Jax for taking off in the night while she was still in the hospital. Jax has never explained his actions. Only now, Jax is back and he is determined to finally have the love of his life actually in his life. Will Jax ever be able to break through Joey’s anger and find love again? Why did Jax leave in the first place? How will Joey handle the truth? Will they find their way back to true love?
This was so enjoyable. Lots of laughter, great banter, and of course deep love. Wonderful to see all of the Pierce brothers, the crazy town of Blue Moon, and of course, the machinations of the Beautification Committee. Enjoy!
Joey and Jax were high school sweethearts destined to be together forever. Then right before graduation they are in a car accident and before Joey can get out of the hospital, Jax has moved to California where he has made a lot of money writing scripts. It is now eight years later and Jax is back and ready to fight for the only woman he has ever loved and Joey is having none of it.
Joey is running the stable on the Carter family farm and has dreams of breeding horses one day. Jax is working on the family farm and building a brewing company/restaurant. Somehow he keeps ending up in Joey’s path.
This book is part of a series with a group of 60s flower children as towns people. They are a delightfully funny group and the antics in these books will have you laughing out loud. Plus there is a Beautification Committee that likes to play matchmaker and will make their preferences known to everyone except the couple. If you need a smile or even a laugh you won’t be disappointed.

Well, I’m officially hooked on this series. This is the third book in the series, so the main characters, Jax and Joey, are finally getting their story. Because I read books 1 and 2 immediately before this one, it felt like just a continuation of the two earlier books (which are both excellent!). Jax and Joey have history that goes back to their childhood, but ended when they were in a car crash as teens. Jax took off for California while Joey was still unconscious in the hospital. He’s never explained why, and she’s never forgiven him. But Jax is back now and has Joey in his sights. This was a second-chance, enemies-to-lovers romance, with a lot of laughs along the way. It also has a ton of emotion, family, and friends. I didn’t expect to get so addicted to this quirky small-town, but I totally am.
4*
Joey & Jackson (jax) were school sweethearts destined to be together. Unfortunately life didn’t go as planned and Jax left without saying goodbye.
I’ve waited for Jax & Joey’s story after meeting the couple in the first two blue moon books.
However they are all standalone books and can be enjoyed individually.
I loved that Joey was not a weak character and had been determined to survive and didn’t make things easy for Jax.
The sheer love that Jax still has for Joey totally made the book and lessons were learned along the way
The bad decisions of our youth…
I wasn’t sure how I would go with reading The Last Second Chance. Was the how and why of Jax’s abandonment going to satisfy me enough to believe in their love story? Did Jax leave Joey just to seek fame and fortune? Should Joey be left alone because she says she’s content on her own and her horses make her happy? Like Joey’s concerns, how was Jax going to convince me that he’s staying for good this time? Well, the truth is in the 4-star rating. I’m convinced that Jax WAS a dinglebat…but I’m also convinced that he learnt his lesson and knows where his heart is at.
Jax and Joey are completely lovable and from the start, I knew they were meant for each other. But, I also know that Jax hurt Joey and won’t tell her why. How am I supposed to forgive him…I mean…How is Joey supposed to forgive him? It was going to have to be a really good reason to convince me…I mean Joey, that those eight years apart were necessary.
I completely understood Joey’s hesitation in giving Jax a second chance. There was an undeniable spark that hasn’t dimmed from when they were teenagers. Joey is not willing to risk her heart again, but she can’t deny her body still yearns for his touch. Jax wants Joey’s body…but he wants her heart more. It’s going to take a lot of grovelling, plenty of sweet words, and a few big gestures to win Joey’s heart again.
Lucy Score does a wonderful job of convincing me that Jax is worth taking a risk on and Joey will really only be happy with Jax by her side. This story is sweet, sexy and at times very funny which balanced out my frustration, confusion and sadness. I knew that is was going to be rough at times, but it was never too rough or heartbreaking.
This series is quickly becoming a favourite. I love these imperfect characters who just want to love and be loved warts and all. Their town is quirky and full of funny and very original characters. Jax and Joey’s family are exactly what a family should be…loyal but annoying. I admit that I’m always reading this series hungry as food is mentioned quite a lot. I want Joey’s recipes…to give hubby. 😉
Sorry, this review is a little bit rambly. I’m a wee bit tired but I was determined to not go to bed until I’d got my thoughts down. If you love a good small-town romance, I highly recommend giving this series a go. Lucy Score writes funny, heartwarming and original stories that always leave me satisfied.
