THE LAST MILE
Convicted murderer Melvin Mars is counting down the last hours before his execution–for the violent killing of his parents twenty years earlier–when he’s granted an unexpected reprieve. Another man has confessed to the crime.
Amos Decker, newly hired on an FBI special task force, takes an interest in Mars’s case after discovering the striking similarities to his own life: Both men … own life: Both men were talented football players with promising careers cut short by tragedy. Both men’s families were brutally murdered. And in both cases, another suspect came forward, years after the killing, to confess to the crime. A suspect who may or may not have been telling the truth.
The confession has the potential to make Melvin Mars–guilty or not–a free man. Who wants Mars out of prison? And why now?
But when a member of Decker’s team disappears, it becomes clear that something much larger–and more sinister–than just one convicted criminal’s life hangs in the balance. Decker will need all of his extraordinary brainpower to stop an innocent man from being executed.
In his #1 New York Times bestseller Memory Man, David Baldacci introduced the extraordinary detective Amos Decker-the man who can forget nothing. Now, Decker returns in a spectacular new thriller . . .

Great read. Could not put it down.
Baldicci is one of the best writers of our time, the only one I consider better is Wilbur Smith.
In true Baldacci style, great mystery, well written and great characters. I love everything he writes. Good read.
Twists in the plot made it fun reading. Kept me interested and I couldn’t put it down. What was going to happen next? Loved the characters.
Alex Cross is a compelling character, and I like the other characters in his orbit. Always a good read about a good and talented man and law enforcement officer.
All of his books are great.
Great book. Couldn’t put it down.
One can’t beat Baldacci for readable adventure. He is writer of such range that every book is a treat and a surprise. If you haven’t read him yet, do so immediately and have fun.

typical great book from David Baldacci
I CANT put THES books down. Just long enough 2 sleep & rest my eyes, then right back 2 the story. Riveting.
David Baldacci books are always hard to put down and this was no exception. The characters are a good match and the story is intense.
I can’t get enough of his books. Truly a master storyteller. I couldn’t put it down and was engaged throughout the entire book. He makes you care and feel involved.
David Baldacci’s Memory Man begins this series about a detective with a perfect memory (due to a football injury to his head). Never forgetting anything can be a curse as well as a gift and Amos Decker learns how to use his extraordinary talent for finding the truth when ruthless killers think they can get away with murder.
I love all of Baldacci’s books. He is an incredible writer, grabs the reader and won’t let go. This is a perfect example.
It was a very good book with a very thought-provoking story line. Being from Arkansas and amid the latest controversy where several prison inmates were put to death in a two-week period, with the rush because our death-inducing medications were nearing expiration dates and the unavailability of other, the death penalty is a subject that has been on our minds a lot lately. That alone led me to read the book; although the character’s brain injury was another factor with so many of our athletic heroes making headlines with decisions to get out of activities like football and boxing was another factor. The book did not disappoint. Highly recommended.
Hey, it’s a novel by David Baldacci…what’s not to like? This book also has Amos Decker in it, so things have to be entertaining. Like The Memory Man, which introduces Amos Decker, it moves quickly with intrigue, danger and exhilaration. It’s unnecessary to read #1, but why wouldn’t you? It’s a 5 star book after all…both are.
Typical balducci book, page turner
