Opposites attract in this sexy new contemporary romance series from the New York Times bestselling author of The Marriage Contract. The rebel. That’s how Samara Mallick has always thought of Beckett King. And he’s absolutely living up to his unpredictable ways when he strides into her office and asks for help after inheriting his father’s company. She can’t help wondering if it’s a legit … can’t help wondering if it’s a legit request or just a ploy to get her into bed. Not that she’d mind either one. After all, she likes to live on the edge too.
But soon the threats to the Kings are mounting, and the two find family secrets darker than they ever imagined and dangerous enough to get them both killed.

Katee Robert is now solidly in my top 10 favourtie author list…. The Last King was an excellent start to what I know is gonna be a fantastic new series….
Neither Beckett or Samara were what I was expecting as I started reading..
Yeah, both were driven, determined and work focused, but as they spent time together and got to really know each other we got to see the real them and as their relationship developed, so did their characters and how much I liked them.
Ms Robert knows how to write one hell of an entertaining and engrosing book.
Her storylines are interesting and believable, the characters possess depth and feel real – and hell can she conjure up a real detestable enemy – and her hot as hell encounters between the leading couple truly steam up the kindle!!
I LOVED this first book in The Kings series and cannot wait to find out more about Journey and Frank!!! Without doubt, a recommended 5* read!
I loved everything about this book. The tension never let up (sexual or suspense), the attraction was believable, I absolutely connected with Beckett and Samara – it was a GREAT read!
Beckett tends to have a one track mind, “…but desire hijacked his reasoning capabilities and he couldn’t focus on anything but Samara and that tiny effing dress. “You look good in red.” Beckett doesn’t ask, the man just states things, “I’m effing you tonight.” I liked this book, I found Beckett extremely hot, the man was on a mission, and he was determined.
The King’s are the richest family in Texas. But when it was time to name a successor to Morningstar, the father chose Nathaniel over Lydia. Lydia built her own company, Kingdom Corp. Now over twenty some years, the brother and sister are still at odds. When the brother dies, he leaves the company to his son Beckett and the family home to his sister. Samara is Lydia’s second in command and had a fling with Beckett six months ago. They are enemies but something keeps pulling them together. Every time they are near, they can’t keep their hands off each other. Beckett believes his aunt had his father killed and now someone tried to set his building on fire with him and Samara in it. There was a break in at his condo and it’s destroyed. Samara has always stood by Lydia’s side but now she has gone too far. Can Beckett get the proof he needs or will his aunt bring him down? Loved the characters and story. Mystery, sex, and a family feud. Cannot wait for the next one. It will have you reading late into the night and then needing a cold shower.

If you’re a fan of hot, steamy romance novels with alpha males and strong women this one’s for you. The Last King (The Kings #1) has it all, interesting story line, great characters with loads of chemistry, family drama and a bit of mystery thrown in. This is only the second Katee Robert book I’ve read but I’m already a huge fan and eagerly awaiting the next installment in the King Family series.
Awesome
Wow! This King family is one seriously screwed up bunch and I can’t wait for more!! I highly recommend this book to everyone.
He looked like a drowning man clinging to life preserver and watching a mountain of a wave descend upon him. Lost. Found. All at the same time.
In Katee Robert’s latest novel, The Last King, she grabs you by the proverbial ankles and hauls you right into her world! Being a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author she’s really great at what she does and on top of that she always finds a way to surprise you with something original, packed with drama and love and a strong set of characters, this one is no different.
We meet the two main characters, Beckett King and Samara Mallick, two powerful respectable personas in their respective positions at two opposite companies at the forefront of the oil industry. Being powerful and born into the right family means you sometimes have it easy and sometimes a little harder than it should be. Beckett King was born a King and with such a name comes a lot of responsibly. He’s brilliant and fearless when going after what he wants and doesn’t back down for anyone else. Or so he thinks.
Samara is a wonderful breath of fresh air and she presents every kind of ability you’d want as someone’s main female character. Strong-willed and not anyone’s walkover, she manages to make you love her ever more.
The story backdates to something that happened 30 years ago and still the consequences are felt years later.
There is enough of everything to keep you well hooked on this story!
This book is an absolutely unexpected surprise wrapped between two covers!
Worth 5-unforgettable stars!

*A copy of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley and I’m freely giving my honest review.*
This is the first book in a new series from this author and what a great first book.
This is what I liked:
* The storyline is good and there’s enough happening to make me be curious without being a totally mystery and that’s what I expected from this book.
* The characters is well described with lots of feelings and past experiences that makes them more realistic but they are still characters in a book.
* Samara and Beckett is on a journey that’s dangerous, soul searching, sweet and so good for them both in the end.
* No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings
* A good amount of dialogues that are fun and hot and sweet.
* Hot love scenes that makes me blush
* The author has created a world I can’t wait to get more in to with the next books in the King world.
* Introducing the secondary characters naturally throughout the book is making me look forward to getting to know them better.
If you want to start a new series this year I recommend this one, it’s very promising.
5 stars for Samara and Beckett’s story and looking forward to the next.
I became a HUGE fan of Katee Roberts after being introduced to her O’Malleys series. Aside from her incredible writing, she has an amazing knack of bringing family discord to life. That is exactly what she did in the start of her new series.
The Last King was filled with suspense and mystery. It was raw and gritty and felt a bit reminiscent of when I was that show Dallas as a young girl. The hostility between two branches of the King family was awesome to see.
Beckett was an incredible man from a powerful family, but he just wanted to live up to his family’s expectations and be a great employer as well as do his family name proud. But the family history he was born into has him working harder than expected.
With Samara on his mind and in his bed, she makes it much easier for him and with her by his side, he’s not alone anymore.
The characters shared an incredible chemistry and intense physical attraction. Their sexual tension was molten level HOT, the suspense and mystery was nail-biting and I want more. I can’t wait to read more from this series!
4.5 Stars
The King family may be Texas royalty, but they are one seriously dysfunctional and splintered family too! Beckett and his father have never really been close since Beckett’s mom died when he was a child, but he has still been groomed to take over his family’s oil company from the moment he was old enough to get involved in even the smallest of ways. His father’s sister, Beckett’s aunt Lydia, holds a serious grudge that she was passed over for the role of CEO in favor of Beckett’s father though, and she started her own rival company years ago. Over the years each company has done battle for contracts around the world with each one winning skirmishes along the way. Beckett is the go-to man for his family empire, but Lydia’s secret weapon is her assistant and right-hand woman Samara. She and Beckett each have a serious competitive streak and they find themselves pitted against each other time and time again, but one night in a foreign country they finally give in to the rising sexual tension for one seriously hot encounter. What happens in Norway stays in Norway… maybe.
Six months later, Beckett’s father has died after being behind the wheel in a drunk driving accident and Beckett’s world is descending into chaos. For some reason his father changed his will right before he died and deeded his family home to Lydia despite the fact they hated each other intensely. There is a major government contract up for grabs that both Beckett and Samara are competing for, and in the middle of it all Lydia appears to declare full-on war on her nephew. Corporate intrigue, threats and dirty tricks ensue as the companies – and family members- battle for dominance.
Through it all, Samara is torn. Giving into Beckett for a night only proved how explosive they could be together, but she was raised to have a strong distrust of any powerful man. Her mother gave up all her hopes and dreams to raise Samara after her sperm donor chose his rich and powerful family’s future over acknowledging his daughter and the mother who was not part of society’s elite. Samara has worked hard and sacrificed for years to build a successful career and a future where she only needs to rely on herself to get by, but Lydia is the key to it all. Samara doesn’t want to believe that Beckett may be right about his aunt, but it slowly becomes more and more obvious that Samara’s employer may not be the woman Samara believed her to be.
Samara and Beckett have serious chemistry, and there is plenty of hot and sexy time in this story to prove it, but Samara is a woman torn. She doesn’t want to fall in love with the enemy, and he is everything her mother raised her to be wary of. Yet Samara can see for herself that Lydia may just be the devil incarnate, and her best friend Journey (who also happens to be Lydia’s daughter and Beckett’s estranged cousin) doesn’t seem to be too shocked when Samara finally breaks down and confides in her.
The Last King was one seriously hot and wild ride, and I loved it! From the first pages where the gauntlet is thrown down between Samara and Beckett to the sprint to discover the truth behind the threats to both Beckett’s life and his company, Ms. Robert crafted a well written, sexy enemies-to-lovers tale with a side of corporate espionage, danger and a little trip into crazy town along the way too! I can’t wait for more in this series, and I have a feeling Journey’s story is going to be just as awesome based on the little glimpses into her life that we are granted in this story.
5 HOT BECKETT STARS!! Fantastic start to this new series. Wow, I am in love with Beckett, he is the perfect man in every way. This story between Beckett and Samara was sexy hot and phenomenal to watch unfold. Katee Robert is such amazing storyteller, she keeps in locked it until the last word. I can’t wait for the next book. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book from publisher via NetGalley.
The Last King by Katee Robert is the first book in her brand new series, The Kings . A story of family, feuding, betrayal, danger, redemption & love. A little bit nail-biting and a whole lot sexy, this new series is off to a fabulous start.
Beckett King has his sights set on Samara. A woman completely off-limits. Practically his mortal enemy, but resistance is futile. She is smart, sexy, and is everything he never knew he wanted in a partner.
Samara can’t resist Beckett King. She has tried but the more she actually gets to know him the more she realizes he is nothing like his aunt, her boss, and vicious rival to Beckett’s company painted him to be. He is a compassionate person not capable of stooping to the level that some of his estranged family members have done.
Page-turning, perfectly paced, told in dual POV and does NOT have a cliffhanger ending. This is Beckett & Samara’s story. Loved it! Enjoy!
Another awesome book from Katee Robert and a great start to a new series! I have to admit, I always hate when an author finishes a series. It’s so hard to say goodbye to the characters and the world they’ve created. And Katee did one heck of a job with her O’Malleys series. But this first glimpse of The Kings she’s given us has made me eager to get to know the rest of the clan. If they are anything like Beckett King…! Both main characters are interesting, and I appreciated how well rounded they were. You really got a chance to know the characters, what shaped them, what drove them. And Beckett definitely has hefted the bar high for the rest of his family. The guy was smart, driven, caring, tough and tender. Samara was one lucky woman. She was also pretty darn kick-ass herself: focused, determined and smart. Her relationship with her amma was touching, too. And best of all, both characters acted like adults. There were no games, no misunderstandings. They were mature and honest with one another. That isn’t to say there wasn’t drama and intrigue. The book offered up plenty of that, too, along with secondary characters I’m anxious to get to know better. And I can’t forget to mention the steamy interludes. The book starts off with a passionate encounter between Beckett and Samara, and just gets hotter and hotter. So while I’ll miss the O’Malleys, I’m happy to say that the Kings seem more than capable of giving us more heat, heart and suspense.
THE LAST KING by Katee Robert is the First book in The Kings Series. This is the story of Beckett King and Samara Mallick.
Beckett just inherited his fathers Morningstar empire which has left him wealthy but he feels that something else is going on with his father’s death.
Samara works for Kingdom Corp which Beckett’s Aunt runs. There is no love lost between the Aunt and Beckett. This has caused Samara and Beckett to but heads when going toe to toe for the same contract. But when Beckett needs someone by his side that he can trust, he knows that Samara is that person.
This was a exciting enemies to lovers story. Ms. Robert is a author I know will bring me a great story…one of my ‘go to’ authors.
THE LAST KING is the first instalment in Katee Robert’s contemporary, adult THE KINGS erotic, romance series focusing on the King siblings and cousins. This is businessman Beckett King, and Samara Mallick’s story line.
Told from several third person points of view including Beckett and Samara THE LAST KING follows the building relationship between business rivals Beckett King, and Samara Mallick. With the recent, and questionable death of his father Nathaniel King, Beckett King was now CEO of Morningstar Enterprises but a change to his late father’s will found the family owned Villa went to his father’s estranged sister Lydia King- CEO of Kingdom Corp, and a woman whose reputation in the business was as fierce as his father’s. With a bid for a large oil contract on the horizon, Beckett King will come face to face with the woman who has starred in all of his fantasies since their one-night stand six months earlier- Samara Mallick-his aunt’s employee and overly protective assistant. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Beckett and Samara; and the increasing threats against Beckett King’s life as he begins looking into the events surrounding his father’s demise.
Samara Mallick is good at her job and her earlier hunger to win comes across as cold and malevolent but her attraction to Beckett is complicating her relationship with Lydia King-an attraction that Lydia is determined to use against her grieving nephew. Lydia is a power hungry CEO who will do anything to get back what she thinks she deserves, and gaining control of the Morningstar empire is on the top of the list. Beckett King knows that not all is well with the King family dynamics but his investigation into his father’s death reveals an inside connection that has targeted Beckett himself. Beckett is captivated by Samara Mallick, a captivation that could go horribly wrong, if Samara becomes collateral damage in the family feud.
The relationship between Beckett and Samara is one of immediate attraction; a forbidden romance between competitors in the high-stakes world of oil and finance. Beckett suspects that Samara has become a puppet and a pawn but Samara refuses to be controlled by anyone including the man with whom she is falling in love. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic, and intense. The chemistry is palpable between our leading couple.
We are introduced to Beckett’s best friend, business owner and security expert Frank Evans, as well as Beckett’s cousins Anderson and Journey (Samara’s best friend), and Beckett’s aunt Lydia King. Journey and Frank’s story line is next.
The world building focuses on the fractured family dynamics of the King family that go back several generations affecting each successive generation in its wake. Jealousy and rivals; infidelity and threats mar relationships that would have been better off never existing.
THE LAST KING is an exciting, suspense filled story of betrayal and vengeance; a broken family cursed by jealousy, hatred and greed but a story that is all too predictable about the who, how and why. The premise is entertaining and engaging; the characters are charismatic, enchanting and intelligent; the romance is seductive and provocative.
***5 ‘Long Live the Kings’ Stars***
I loved The O’Malley’s and was quite sad that there would be no more books coming from the dysfunctional yet fascinating world and family, and then The King’s series was announced and the sadness started to dissipate and I made it a point to keep an eye out for The Last King and I was not disappointed! It was a fun, smexy, intense and kind of crazy read that was filled with characters I really want to know more about (like Frank…js) and kept me turning the pages to see not only what would happen next in Beckett and Samara’s dance, but also what crazy thing the baddie would do next.
I Adored Beckett! Adored. Yes, he’s grown up with a silver spoon and can be quite the shark when it comes to how he handles things when it comes to his company, but there is also this streak of…I hate to use the word, but goodness that is an inherent part of who he is. He definitely has his Alpha AF moments and, as I’ve said, can play dirty, but he’s a good man down to his very soul.
Samara. I loved her, I did, but she frustrated the hell out of me She’s determined, hard working and gives as good as she gets ~ if not more when the situation calls for and I absolutely loved all of that. But she needed to stop having conversations with herself in her head. Seriously, she was driving me batshit crazy with it. I understood why she felt the way she did, I did, but girlfriend needed to have a come to Jesus talk with herself a lot sooner than she did because I was ready to reach out and Gibbs smack her. I am thankful I didn’t have to, but it was close.
Beckett and Samara’s enemies(ish) to lovers journey was a fun one. The chemistry between them was intense, but what made it even more was the simple fact that despite everything they actually respected the hell out of each other. They’d never admit it, at least in the beginning, but it was there. Their bantering was sharp, but fun and the smexy was all kinds of panty melting goodness. Their road is a bumpy one and the push/pull is real, but in the end they end up exactly where they were supposed to be.
So, as you can tell, I’m totally excited about this series ~ and really, really happy that Frank’s book is up next (even if the is significant ~ it’s up next) ~ but that isn’t to say the rest of the King’s didn’t intrigue me, because they did, but it’s Frank. *BSEG* As for the storyline and the baddie ~ cray, cray but fun and when everything came together it all made sense to me. I loved the 3rd person dual POV’s with a smattering of other POV’s added in, which only helped to give the world more depth ~ at least as far as I am concerned. In the end, this was a great start to a new series and I can’t wait to see what the next book brings!
