Two women. Two flights. One last chance to disappear.
Claire Cook has a perfect life. Married to the scion of a political dynasty, with a Manhattan townhouse and a staff of ten, her surroundings are elegant, her days flawlessly choreographed, and her future auspicious. But behind closed doors, nothing is quite as it seems. That perfect husband has a temper that burns bright and he’s not above using his staff to track Claire’s every move.
What he doesn’t know is that Claire has worked for months on a plan to vanish. A plan that takes her to the airport, poised to run from it all. But a chance meeting in the airport bar brings her together with a woman whose circumstances seem equally dire. Together they make a last-minute decision.
The two women switch tickets, with Claire taking Eva’s flight to Oakland, and Eva traveling to Puerto Rico as Claire. They believe the swap will give each of them the head start they need to begin again somewhere far away. But when the flight to Puerto Rico crashes, Claire realizes it’s no longer a head start but a new life. Cut off, out of options, with the news of her death about to explode in the media, Claire will assume Eva’s identity, and along with it, the secrets Eva fought so hard to keep hidden.
For fans of Lisa Jewell and Liv Constantine, The Last Flight is the story of two women—both alone, both scared—and one agonizing decision that will change the trajectory of both of their lives.

I enjoyed this story and didn’t want to put the book down. I wanted to know what had happened. Nice unexpected twists throughout. Loved the characters.
I found this book to be well written and done in such a way as to read (as quickly as possible) to the very last few pages where a surprising ending happens. I don’t want to give any details as that would spoil it for the reader; but, just keep reading till the very end!!!
Cons: No thread hanging, but everything just seemed to be tidied up just a little too much, some just a little too convenient. A little heavy-handed on the #MeToo issues. I would have chosen a different ending for the final chapter.
Pros: Good pacing, believable characters. Fairly unpredictable. Format (present day and forward for Claire, past for Eva) worked well. Both women were doing their best to take charge of their lives and environment – a good message/theme.
This book was quite a page-turner. While it didn’t keep me awake to finish the book, it was suspenseful and kept my interest throughout, plus I did not guess the couple of surprises at the end.
This book has it all. Family drama, personal morals that are flawed, self respect that is questioned, and challenging situations that have to be overcome one way or another. Put your seat belts on, adjust your tray tables to the upright position, and prepare for take-off!
Eve and Claire are both women who need new lives. A chance airport meeting puts them a course that neither suspected as they both run from a past that could get them killed. The women agree to switch identities but when one of their planes crashes, the other woman is forced to take over the life of someone who had plenty of secrets to hide! A fast-paced engaging thriller!
My favorite read so far this year! I literally could NOT put this book down. And Claire is such a likable character, you can’t help but root for her!
I loved this book! One of my favorites…the anticipation was hard to bare!
I read this author’s first book, The Ones We Choose, in Nov, 2019 and loved it. I was so glad to see this book released in 2020. It is an outstanding story of 2 desperate women. Lots of twists in this gripping, haunting story.
I loved this book! I read it in one day. A friend asked if you’d be afraid to fly after reading this book. My response was “I’d be more afraid to get married!”
Interesting concept – trade places with someone else who is just as desperate to leave their life behind as you are. I enjoyed it.
Eva, who made a mistake years earlier, and later got caught up again, is running scared. Claire, married to a prominent politician who abused her, also wants out of her life. So, in the airport, they agree to swap planes tickets and go to the other’s destination.
When Claire arrives in Oakland, CA, she sees the news that the plane to Puerto Rico has crashed-the plane that Eva was supposed to take in Claire’s place.
The story then flashes back to the time before the crash and these women’s lives. The ending is a bit of a surprise.
I like how the story brought attention to the decisions we make early in life don’t have to define the rest of your life. I also liked how it brought some attention to the plight of many who are abused or diminished at the hands of powerful men. I think it could have gone a bit deeper into this storyline.
Thanks to Goodreads for the copy! #Goodreadsgiveaway
Loved it.. me of my favorite thrillers of 2020
Excellent book! Two women on the run from trying to escape their dangerous pasts
You would do well to pay close attention to this nonlinear plot! The edge of your seat suspense and pulse pounding twists will tempt you to speed through the book. Don’t. The details are easy to miss if you’re not paying attention to this intricately woven story.
Well crafted and character driven, this riveting novel will keep you seated in the upright position until the last page.
Julie Clark has crafted a smart, and suspenseful, women’s fiction with twists and well-timed reveals that kept me guessing until the very end. Engaging and relevant, The Last Flight is sure to be a book club favorite.
A much more interesting structure makes this book far more entertaining than the average “beach read.” The characters are well-developed and so are their interactions with ones who are not central personalities in the story.
This one has stayed with me long after completion. Trying to arrange and live a different life is apparently not as easy as one would think, as two women find out. It takes a lot of planning, money and a little bit of luck. However, with social media, it’s not always possible to hide as it would have been in the past. You find yourself pulling for both women to succeed at finding new lives. I felt great sympathy for both of them. Truly got caught up in this book and have found a new favorite author!
I’ll recommend to my friends

I enjoyed the overall story. Claire was my favorite character out of all of them. She is a brave, strong survivor. The author does a great job writing about the abusive relationship she was in without making it the focus of the story, but still a very important part. I didn’t like that so much of the story was focused on Eva. I wish there could’ve been more about Claire. However, there were plenty of surprises in Eva’s story that kept you guessing. I will say I didn’t enjoy the ending of the story. There was so much build up that once the climax happened, the resolution left you feeling short-changed. While I was disappointed in the ending, I do think this would make a great movie. This was a quick read and a first time read by this author. I would definitely like to read other works by Julie Clark.
Very engaging
I read this book without hearing anything about it beforehand. It was an enjoyable read, and I have rated it a 4.5. I am glad I started the book with no preconceived notions and was left in a contemplative mood by the twists and turns. In a time when many books are easily forgotten, this story stays with you. The book is well-planned and paced.
