“The Last Flight is thoroughly absorbing—not only because of its tantalizing plot and deft pacing, but also because of its unexpected poignancy and its satisfying, if bittersweet, resolution. The characters get under your skin.”—The New York Times Book Review

Two women. Two flights. One last chance to disappear.
Claire Cook has a perfect life. Married to the scion of a political dynasty, with a Manhattan townhouse and a staff of ten, her surroundings are elegant, her days flawlessly choreographed, and her future auspicious. But behind closed doors, nothing is quite as it seems. That perfect husband has a temper that burns bright and he’s not above using his staff to track Claire’s every move.
What he doesn’t know is that Claire has worked for months on a plan to vanish. A plan that takes her to the airport, poised to run from it all. But a chance meeting in the airport bar brings her together with a woman whose circumstances seem equally dire. Together they make a last-minute decision.
The two women switch tickets, with Claire taking Eva’s flight to Oakland, and Eva traveling to Puerto Rico as Claire. They believe the swap will give each of them the head start they need to begin again somewhere far away. But when the flight to Puerto Rico crashes, Claire realizes it’s no longer a head start but a new life. Cut off, out of options, with the news of her death about to explode in the media, Claire will assume Eva’s identity, and along with it, the secrets Eva fought so hard to keep hidden.
For fans of Lisa Jewell and Liv Constantine, The Last Flight is the story of two women—both alone, both scared—and one agonizing decision that will change the trajectory of both of their lives.

This book was so good. I finished it in one day
Two women desperate to escape the terror of their lives meet at the airport and decide to exchange their tickets. Surely this is the solution that will save them both.
As the story slips back and forth between the women and back and forth between pre and post flight we learn what led them to take such a desperate risk and how they are dealing with their “new” lives.
The concept is intriguing, but the book did not live up to its hype. While there were a couple of unexpected plot twists, the tension a reader would expect just wasn’t there and when the women were in tight spots there was an easy out—rather like the “oh, it was just a dream” scenario. Another problem that detracted? Too much telling and not enough showing.

This is the author’s second book and, as with the first, she knocked it out of the park! The format of the story that moves back and forth between the main characters, Claire and Eva, and the past and present flowed smoothly. There were so many aspects presented from drug abuse, domestic violence, love, loss, relationships, misguided trust. Opening the book will take you on a soaring roller coaster ride of emotions. And there are several moments when you will gasp out loud. Claire and Eva are two amazing women and you will find yourself cheering them on. This is definitely a book to put at the top of your to-be-read list. Just make sure you don’t have anything else to do because you won’t be able to put it down. I can’t wait for Julie Clark’s next gift of words!
Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
Reading this book was like speeding down a mountain road in heavy fog. It has so many twists and turns that your brakes are constantly being pumped and you’re always looking for the next curve or dip. Fasten your seat belts. Things don’t always work out as planned and sometimes we have to reevaluate our lives and make drastic changes as we formulate new plans. That’s what the two main characters do in this book. Highly recommended read.
Interesting plot
Although it was a bit slow and spots, I gave this book a 5 star rating because it truly is unforgettable. The dual time lines were very well handled by the author , as well as the stories of both key figures. There was a great amount of insight into the thought processes of the women, and the ending was not watch the reader would expect.
Wow! The Last Flight was a hold on tight thrill ride!
This is the story of an abused wife, Claire, who makes plans to escape her husband. At the airport, she meets another woman, Eva, and they decide to trade tickets. What follows is a hair-raising adventure!
Claire takes Eva’s flight to Oakland, and Eva travels to Puerto Rico as Claire. They believe the swap will give each of them the head start they need to begin again somewhere far away. But when the flight to Puerto Rico crashes, Claire realizes it’s no longer a head start but a new life. I loved the story about two women on the run for different reasons. I don’t want to give out spoilers so let’s just say, clear a weekend, and enjoy the ride on The Last Flight!
I liked this book, but the way it was written caused me to pick it up, read and put it back down. It’s a two person narrative. Claire and Eva, two women that both want to escape their lives and decide to switch places on two flights.
Claire’s parts are written in the present, while Eva’s are written in the past. You experience Claire’s story first hand, while getting Eva’s backstory.
It’s a mix between suspense and women’s fiction, but to me leans more toward women’s fiction.
Thanks to Goodreads, the author and publisher for the book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Great story- you don’t have a clue how it will end.
What happens behind closed doors may not be what you see in public. Claire’s husband is an ambitious man headed for a promising political career. Everyone loves him but what is he like when he’s not out in public? Is he different at home? What is he doing that causes Claire to come up with a plan to disappear and start her life over free of her husband? Is it fate or just coincidence that Claire meets a woman at the airport who is also trying to start a new life? Switching tickets and identities seems like a good idea but is it? Who is the woman and what is she running away from? I had a hard time putting this book down! Excellent characters and the story is very well written. Definitely recommend!
Best book I’ve read this year!
Enjoyed this thriller.
A taut page turner. You just know things will not go as planned but where will the twist take them? Good character development, makes you care what happens.
Good book.
“The world was filled with people who carried secrets. No one was who they seemed to be.”
The Last Flight explores themes of identity, women’s friendships, and the limits of what an ordinary person will do to escape a threatening situation. The book begins with Claire making plans to escape an abusive marriage to a high-profile husband. She plans to disappear after flying to Denver for a charity speaking engagement but at the last minute switches tickets with a stranger, Eva, who was heading home to Oakland, California.
The story moves quickly — I read the book in a day. The book uses a dual storyline approach, alternating between Claire in the present day and Eva in the few months before the flight. I was vested in both characters and storylines, although Claire’s storyline was the stronger of the two.
I gave the book five stars because of the unique premise, the strong female characters, and the quality of the writing. There were a lot of memorable lines in the book. While I rated the book highly, a few events and scenes stretch the limits of believability. For example, after Claire disappears, she uses a laptop she had before her escape to access her husband’s emails and Google docs without being detected. This didn’t really add up for me, given how much time was spent earlier in the book describing how closely Rory and his associates tracked her every move through technology. For me, these minor flaws didn’t take away from the story. Overall, this was an excellent read, and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a fast-paced, page-turner focused on women.
Not many books I’ve read has grabbed my attention from the beginning, but this one did! I couldn’t wait to see what happens to Claire and Eva. This is the first book I’ve read by Julie Clark. I really enjoyed it.
Excellent use of a “red herring.” Well written and good editing.
Wow! Exciting, great characters, twists you don’t see coming… thoroughly enjoyable. I loved every minute of it!

My Review
What a rollercoaster this was, just when you think you had worked it out bang another twist. This was a absolutely fantastic mystery / thriller that i could not stop reading. I was immersed in this book from the very start until the astonishing ending!
This Seriously was one of the best books i have read so far this year . This would make a good movie. Told in alternating chapters, the story of Eva and Claire we get the perspective of both the main characters . I love getting the insight and feelings from the different characters. Both want to escape their lives and when a chance meeting occurs at the airport they decide to switch tickets and identities. I don’t normally like stories that go back and forth between past and present but this really worked for the story and me. I loved both of the characters. Claire i loved from the start , Ava took awhile and still at the end i didn’t like as much as i did Claire . This new-to-me author is one I can’t wait to read more of. Seriously I want more more more !!!!!!
