NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER “An inspiring story that manages to be painful, honest, shocking, bawdy and hilarious.” –The New York Times Book Review From stand-up comedian, actress, and breakout star of Girls Trip, Tiffany Haddish, comes The Last Black Unicorn, a sidesplitting, hysterical, edgy, and unflinching collection of (extremely) personal essays, as fearless as the author herself. Growing … collection of (extremely) personal essays, as fearless as the author herself.
Growing up in one of the poorest neighborhoods of South Central Los Angeles, Tiffany learned to survive by making people laugh. If she could do that, then her classmates would let her copy their homework, the other foster kids she lived with wouldn’t beat her up, and she might even get a boyfriend. Or at least she could make enough money–as the paid school mascot and in-demand Bar Mitzvah hype woman–to get her hair and nails done, so then she might get a boyfriend.
None of that worked (and she’s still single), but it allowed Tiffany to imagine a place for herself where she could do something she loved for a living: comedy.
Tiffany can’t avoid being funny–it’s just who she is, whether she’s plotting shocking, jaw-dropping revenge on an ex-boyfriend or learning how to handle her newfound fame despite still having a broke person’s mind-set. Finally poised to become a household name, she recounts with heart and humor how she came from nothing and nowhere to achieve her dreams by owning, sharing, and using her pain to heal others.
By turns hilarious, filthy, and brutally honest, The Last Black Unicorn shows the world who Tiffany Haddish really is–humble, grateful, down-to-earth, and funny as hell. And now, she’s ready to inspire others through the power of laughter.

This is a great, honest memoir. It’s not straight up comedy, it’s just straight up good.
The audiobook was the BEST! It was funny, poignant, and inspiring all in one and even better for being told in Tiffany’s own voice. Favorite part? The song at the end!
I love Tiffany Haddish and even more so now that I read this book. I should say I listened to the audiobook version of this book and it was so damn funny listening to her recount her life and how she became a comedian. This book will definitely make you laugh, but she does talk about things in her life that were not pretty. She doesn’t get emotional or make the reader want to feel sad for her. She really laid it all out. This was really a great book.
This had to be just about the best book I’ve read in a very long time. I laughed, cried, yelled at the book, and got exceedingly angry whenever I needed to stop reading. I barely wanted to stop to go potty. Tiffany’s story is heartbreakingly inspirational and makes you want to go out and pick up a guitar, a paint brush, a spreadsheet–whatever your bliss may be–and conquer all obstacles that stand in the way of your dreams. This is how I feel having just finished this book at 5:30am, having read all night to finish. I am not normally a person who enjoys biographies but I will be recommending this book to anyone who’ll listen.
Both hilarious and heart-breaking, this book will give you a new appreciation for Tiffany Haddish and how much she overcame to get where she is in the comedy world. I listened to the audiobook, which Haddish reads herself, and it’s hard going at times given the painful abuse and abandonment that’s part of her story, but ultimately it’s an inspiring listen. And she’s funny as hell, obviously.
The Last Black Unicorn This book was amazing! I’ve heard about her troubled past, but had no clue! Tiffany doesn’t hold back, not at all. She keeps it real and shares the pain and joy of her rise in Hollywood, but even more than that, she shares her tale of survival. Growing up wasn’t easy and she dealt with a lot. Her hard work, endurance, and determination to find a way to fulfill her dreams is what I enjoyed. I loved the fact that she shared experiences that some would have kept silent and found a way to make them humorous and motivational at the same time. I finished this in 24-hours and I hate that it ended. I’m looking forward to the next thing she’s got going on! You do your thing, girl and keep doing you!
I really enjoyed this book. Tiffany had a rough childhood and describes how she got through it with humor. It was sometimes sad and other times laugh out funny. Once I started reading I could not put it down. I Highly recommend this book!
Tiffany provides a realistic funny and sad Memoir of her life growing up. It’s hard not to laugh and cry at the same time when you read this book. I applaud her for her strength, her Ingenuity, and her ability to rise over obstacles and become the woman that she has become.
I watched Tiffany Haddish’s last two Netflix comedy specials. I love her. Her comedy is hilarious and jammed packed with the truth of the ugly life can be. She finds humor in the most hurtful of situations.
When I found out Haddish had a memoir The Last Black Unicorn I instantly bought it. Haddish is painfully truthful in The Last Black Unicorn. She is not shy about telling her audience about the abuse, pain, fear, and overwhelming odds she has overcome.
There are so many times during this audiobook I was giggling while also wincing.
Haddish has had a painful life but finds humor in it every step of the way.
One thing I loved the most about The Last Black Unicorn and Haddish herself was that she doesn’t bother trying to make herself out to be something she is not. She’s done a lot of gross ghetto shit but owns up to it.
Check out Tiffany Haddish’s comedy specials on Netflix “They Ready” and “Black Mitzvah,” if you like her stand up comedy then you’ll love The Last Black Unicorn.
So freaking funny and relatable. Must read
I got the audiobook and it was such a fun!
So much character. This woman has sure a great outlook on all of the good and bad things in her life and it is full of laughs! I recommend getting the audio book to this one which is read by the author! It’s so funny.

What’s this book about? (I’m trying to give as little spoilers as possible)
This is Tiffany Haddish’s autobiography. It contains some very explicit situations.
I don’t know the first time I was made aware of Tiffany, but the movie Girls Trip was probably one of the most poignant moments. This book tells her story and it’s not as happy-go-lucky as you might think when you think of Tiffany the comedian. I was hooked by her style of narrative. I felt like I was with her throughout the gut-wrenching or the glorious moments. This book adds a lot of depth to her persona and I felt grateful that we got a peek behind the curtain. I always root for her and this book wasn’t any different.
Read this if you love yourself some Tiffany Haddish, if you’re okay with very colloquial language in a book that doesn’t take itself too seriously and if you want to experience a story of resilience and growth.
She is so funny!! This book totally captures it as well as explaining her life.
That it is very funny and it shows about what about in her life
