Sophie Honeywell always wondered if Thomas Gordon was the one she let get away. He was the perfect boyfriend, but on the day he was to propose, she broke his heart. A year later he married his travel agent, while Sophie has been mortifyingly single ever since. Now Thomas is back in her life because Sophie has unexpectedly inherited his aunt Connie’s house on Scribbly Gum Island — home of the … famously unsolved MunroBabymystery.
Sophie moves onto the island and begins a new life as part of an unconventional family where it seems everyone has a secret. Grace, a beautiful young mother, is feverishly planning a shocking escape from her perfect life. Margie, a frumpy housewife, has made a pact with a stranger, while dreamy Aunt Rose wonders if maybe it’s about time she started making her own decisions.
As Sophie’s life becomes increasingly complicated, she discovers that sometimes you have to stop waiting around — and come up with your own fairy-tale ending.
As she so adroitly did in her smashing debut novel, Three Wishes, the incomparable Liane Moriarty once again combines sharp wit, lovable and eccentric characters, and a page-turning story for an unforgettable Last Anniversary.

This is a fun read about a family who overcomes the harsh reality of hard times. Through creativity, a spell is cast to enchant the island. These women, all strong in their own right, discover themselves in different stages of life. At times, laugh out loud humor peppered with heart wrenching life lessons. A lovely weekend read.
I’m a fan of Liane Moriarty, “What Alice Forgot” is a favorite book of mine, but I have to say this one didn’t quite do it for me. Maybe it was just the particular plot, but missing was the edge, the depth and breadth, of her usual stylistic take on contemporary angst and human complexity, replaced, instead, by sort of a “cozy mystery” narrative …
Loved this book — Liane Moriarty never fails to deliver interesting, quirky characters and stories with great twists!
Moriarity is a great author and all the books I have read by her have been enthrallig.

This woman does NOT write a bad book!
This is a wonderfully original novel from my favorite Australian writer Liane Moriarty. The characters are well-drawn and believable.
A very entertaining read which kept me wondering how it could possibly have a satisfying ending for all concerned.

A fun ride! Very enjoyable!
This was my first Liane Moriarty book – I’ve read them all now and they are ALL fabulous. If you haven’t read her – you are missing out – big time.
I was intrigued from day one. The twists and turns of this book were a fun ride. The characters were realistic. Family Dynamics play out. Another must read by this author

All of Ms. Moriarty’s stories seem to start simply but become complicated in hilarious fashion and en in the most humane and logical way.
