What a fun action/adventure book to read. Had never heard of this author,so decided to take a chance. Glad i did, his writing reminds me a lot of Clive Cussler. The book starts on the eve of wwII,1939. Wealthy jewish fleeing Germany in an airship. The cargo: jewels, gold, and an unknown WMD, then a crash. Fast forward to the present, treasure hunt and action begins. Different factions all seeking cargo for different reasons. Fun read
Sam Reilly is a swashbuckling modern hero who doesn’t get all wrapped up in high tech. The story is involved enough to get you interested, but not so involved as to get confusing or hard to keep straight.
This is a novel that reminds me a lot of Clive Cussler. It starts with an “historic” flight—the last airship trying to escape from Nazi Germany with two super wealthy Jewish families and a very high-ranking Nazi with something critical to the war effort in his briefcase—something he doesn’t want Hitler to have. The ship is damaged by machinegun fire as it lifts off and it crashes in the Alps not to be seen again for 75 years. Let me just say now that the crash and why the airship had remained hidden from the many people who searched for it, was absolutely outstanding—just brilliantly thought out by Cartwright.
The story is also a lot of fun. Cartwright has two characters—Sam and Tom—that just make great heroes. They are daring, smart, but still capable of being fooled in ways that didn’t upset me as utterly stupid. The action is fast and furious, and I was happily turning pages (actually listening, but you know what I mean) from beginning to end.
If you’re looking for an actually thrilling “thriller” you should read this novel.
This was one fun adventure! I’m starting the next book right now.
I couldn’t read the whole series fast enough. Mighty good read!
Hate to compare one author with another, but I have to say this reads like a Clive Cussler novel (one of my all time favorites). Have never found another author to match my enjoyment of the historical adventure until this book – have 5 and well into the second one now (The Mahogany Ship) and it is just as good. If you like adventure stories you will enjoy adding this author to your list…
Kept my interest but was confusing in parts
Fun and imaginative story. I enjoyed the fiction.
Loved this book, have read another in the series and am waiting to see more. Keeps you on the edge waiting for what’s next.
Great!
Not realistic but if you like adventure and death around the corner, this is your author!
I throughly enjoyed this book. The plot, characters and the story line were great.,
The author allows readers to feel as if they are solving the riddle of the airship’s disappearance along with Sam. It is also fun to help unravel the ties between the past and the present.
As this quarantine stuff continues, I have found myself reading more and more. This looked like a pretty decent read, with an interesting story line. Unfortunately, the author used too much excessive description to keep me interested. I think if they eliminated all the unnecessary description, the book would only be a hundred pages long. I pushed myself to chapter 8, and couldn’t convince myself to move on. Besides a story line that jumps all over the place, I found the characters over developed, and I couldn’t care less about any of them. Bottom line, I just found the whole thing boring.
First book from this author and there are at least three more in the series. It is easy to read and would be the kind of book I’d take when traveling and just want to read on the plan or airport. No need to read for knowledge or memorization, just helping the time pass.
I enjoyed this book. I found it interesting. It seemed very realistic and historically possible.
Fast paced adventure
Just a really good read
Story moves along. Sort of like James Bond where travel and equipment is always somehow available
I’m not normally interested in the action sleuth type of books. Then I discovered Christopher Cartwright’s the Last Air Ship and then the rest of this series. He has kept me turning page after page with his writing style. My favorite authors and books I know I’ll re-read over and over again. I look forward in anticipation for each of his new releases.
