All Portland vintage clothing store owner Joanna Hayworth wants to do is turn her back on the modern world and retreat into a carefully curated life of satin cocktail gowns, icy martinis, and old movies.
But when Joanna finds a key in a 1930s Lanvin coat cast off by an ex-showgirl, everything changes. The elderly woman turns up dead, and Joanna is pulled into a long-ago drama of back room … room deals, blackmail, and lost love. She must find a very real — and present day — killer before she becomes his next victim.

This is a entertaining who-dun-it, in which a vintage clothing store owner turns into a sleuth when one of her customers is found dead in her store. The writing isn’t spectacular, but it’s a fun read and held my interest. Also, being a PNW native, I love that it takes place in Portland, and the city is as much of a character as the people in the …
Joanna Hayworth would much prefer living in the 1930’s, a time without today’s technology. Because of her love of vintage clothing and things of the past, she runs a vintage clothing store and prefers wearing designer clothing of bygone days. This is an enjoyable cozy mystery, the first of a series, in which Joanna finds a key in the pocket of a …
It was an original story plot in a place I’ve been, so I could picture the area. I liked the twists that keep me turning the pages to see what happened next. The action and suspense kept building to the final climax. Good story and worth reading.
Wonderful mystery. Great characters and a fast paced story. Keeps you guessing. I loved it and am going to get the rest of the series. Great writing.
Interesting plot twists and turns. I look forward to reading more by this author.
Great read!
I didn’t think I was going to like this book but I loved it. The backdrop is a store selling vintage clothing. The main character has a love for the old-style clothes and the way she describes them is delightful. When you read it, you’ll like the “good” characters and dislike the “bad” ones. The mystery is original and ties in the good nature …
I enjoyed reading the mystery wrapped around a vintage clothing shop. This was something I knew very little about and the plot took many twists and turns.
It was a fun book to read. I read it in one sitting. I liked the diversity of the characters. They weren’t pat.
If you like vintage clothing, you’ll like this book set in Portland, Oregon at Telulah’s Closet. The author puts in details of fabric, clothing construction styles, accessories, colors, how to identify the clothing’s era, and much more. If you prefer tightly plotted mysteries, you will find this book just so-so. The main character is, once again, …
As a writer of fiction myself that has a focus on high-end fashion and couture, I was instantly drawn to this book’s title and the reference to ‘Lanvin’. I enjoyed the book and all the fashion references/details. The book focuses mostly on American designers now almost forgotten in today’s fast-paced label obsessed fashion world. The book is full …
I loved the characters in this book.
Very entertaining read. Fun quirky characters. Set in a vintage clothing shop and I almost feel like I’ve been there from the descriptions.
This book used my love of vintage clothing as a background for a murder. Joanna did what I would have done in her place – look into the murder of a friend. It was one of those books I wish there were photos – a tragic older lady was murdered and she had been a beautiful dancer in her youth. Made me want to know what she looked like. The plot was …
Mystery with a twist and Interesting characters. A fun quick read.
This book was OK but not great. It was a page-turner because I was waiting for something to really happen. I felt too much time was spent on clothing descriptions rather than context of the story. The ending seemed to be rushed. I will not read book two in the series.
Not very good-somewhat dull and drGged ot. Loved the clothes, though
This is the first time I read this author. I loved her book, and can’t wait to read the second. I loved hearing about vintage clothes, she describes them all very well. Even though, I don’t know what they looked like, but her description is so clear and I feel like now I know what they are. Also, it is so true to life. Many of us, shop in Thrift …
Makes one think of how finding something can changed the course of your life. Really great characters, loved how it went back in time and the vintage clothing
This is the first book in a very well-written series. The main character is a nicely flawed woman sleuth who has several plans to get information that fail miserably and she sometimes pursues the wrong bad guy/girl doggedly but she comes through in the end. Along the way, I have learned a lot about something I knew absolutely nothing about …
