All Portland vintage clothing store owner Joanna Hayworth wants to do is turn her back on the modern world and retreat into a carefully curated life of satin cocktail gowns, icy martinis, and old movies.
But when Joanna finds a key in a 1930s Lanvin coat cast off by an ex-showgirl, everything changes. The elderly woman turns up dead, and Joanna is pulled into a long-ago drama of back room … room deals, blackmail, and lost love. She must find a very real — and present day — killer before she becomes his next victim.

This book introduces you too the world of vintage clothing and how the sins of the past can come back to bite you. Set in Portland, Oregon you get to see some of the area described. There is murder & secrecy where the main character figures out the police are missing the boat. Entertaining read
The protagonist is a bit arrogant & unrealistic, refusing to own a microwave or a cellphone, using the Internet, wearing just vintage clothes. True, she owns a vintage clothing shop, but how can one carry out day to day activities such as shopping, gardening, cooking, etc. while wearing vintage clothes?
Highly recommended! The author’s research (or maybe just her personal knowledge) of vintage clothing and history behind some pieces, is excellent.
Enjoyed the clothing, though i remember wearing some of it. Very good.
this was a fun read. I didn’t find the character snobby just well informed on the subject of vintage clothes. It was interesting and kept me turning the pages.
I liked the setting for the story, the vintage clothes store, I found the description of the clothing and accessories very interesting, brought back memories of days gone by , I’m a bit of a history buff and I will be buying more of her books. I also liked the heroin, she was like a dog with an bone that she couldn’t quit chewing on , she needed …
Great on the local landscape intertwined with vintage clothing, I love the fact that the descriptions of the clothing (accurate) sound as though this person really loves these items and wants them to live a little longer on the right person. The characters are interesting, if not a little quirky, quite Portlandesque.
I thought it had some humor, was light and easy to follow. It had a good mystery.
Very much enjoyed the vintage fashion knowledge of the author. Good story interesting characters.
Cute book
Enjoyed reading it.
Entertaining read for a lazy afternoon.
A quick, fun read that kept me guessing.
The author creates a unique setting for her story, sharing details of the vintage clothing world seamlessly within the plot. I didn’t want to stop reading until the very end, and then I wanted more!
Loved this book. Great characters and settings. The description of the vintage clothes is wonderful. Highly recommend this book and author. Well plotted and many unexpected twists. Waiting for the next book in this series.
