The Land of Stories continues with The Enchantress Returns.
The Enchantress, who cursed Sleeping Beauty and caused chaos throughout the Land of Stories, has returned. And she has more on her agenda than just casting curses and spells.
Alex and Connor have been away from the Fairy Tale world for a year, not seeing their Grandmother and unable to return. But there are other problems they are facing, their mom’s new boyfriend.
While waiting for their mother to arrive home, their grandmother appears and puts all of them on house arrest. Their mom has been kidnapped by the Enchantress! Alex and Connor want to help, but are under the watchful eye of Mother Goose.
Alex manages to get away from the house and head to their Grandmother’s house. Connor joins her and they both try to find a portal into the fairy tale world.
Once they are back in the fairy tale world, they come across of old friends and together they go on a quest to collect items to build a wand powerful enough to defeat the Enchantress.
I definitely enjoyed The Enchantress more than The Wishing Spell. The depth of connections between the fairy tale characters keeps getting deeper and I am just in awe. I’m tempted to create a chart of the connections.
The plot for this second adventure is a rehash of the first. A villain, a similar quest to collect items, etc. But the cast of characters is so broad and wonderful, if this was a movie, I would definitely watch it. The book didn’t feel as long and drawn out as The Wishing Spell did, for me it was more enjoyable that way.
The Enchantress Returns by Chris Colfer receives 4 stars.
This was a great book. I definitely preferred the first or second book. But it was still good, and definitely a page-turner. I also think that the book had a lot of action but I was personally just not a fan. I still would recommend it but as I said before, read the 1st one before!

Now she and her brother are back in The Land Of Stories during a horrible times, the enchantress that cursed Sleeping Beauty in now trying to take over the fairy tale world. It’s up to the bailey twins to end the Enchantresses plan!!!!!!!The Land of Stories: A Grimm Warning the 3rd book in the Land Of Stories seriesChris Colfer
I loved it so much! I wish the series were even longer!
I love being back with Alex, Conner, and their grandmother–the fairy godmother. Oh, the adventures and the extreme imagination of the author. And the ending…oh my!
Once Upon a Time meets Magic Treehouse in one of my favorite re-imagined fairytale series.
I love the way Colfer kind of turned these classic stories on their heads and how two stories you would never think to connect are intertwined. It’s truly creative without losing the original stories integrity. For example, Rumpelstilskin is the youngest brother to the 7 dwarves. Jack from the beanstalk is dating Goldilocks. Red Riding Hood is a queen and the Evil Queen wasn’t as evil as once thought.
Esmia the Enchantress is an ex-fairy who had been on the fairy council and was the Fairy Godmothers heir. Sleeping Beauty’s grandmother is the first Queen Beauty. Her husband was cursed as the Beast by the Enchantress Esmia because he didn’t love her. Queen Beauty broke the curse by loving the Beast. After that failure, the Enchantress cursed the Beauty family with spinning wheels because the grandma Beauty was a spinner of silver before she met the Beast.
Esmia is back and she has resumed her hobby of collecting souls and planning to conquer the fairytale world and the real world as well. In order to do this she has to master the 7 deadly sins and conquer the fairytale worlds past, present, and future to create a portal to the real world.
The unlikeliest crew of characters, Queen Red Riding Hood, Froggy (Prince Charlie), Goldilock’s, Jack (from the beanstalk), Alex, and Conner, get together and work to gather the items needed to beat the Enchantress before she takes over all of the fairytale world and becomes unstoppable.
Between Queen Red Riding Hood and Goldilocks’s catty exchanges and Conner’s snarky observations and interpretation of the stories, I laughed out loud a lot while listening to this audiobook.
There’s a great lesson about compassion and forgiveness and that great power comes in small packages. What kings and queens could not defeat, a single kind girl succeeded. The only thing I don’t care for is the language. I don’t see how cuss words further a fairytale much less why they’d be in a book kids read. I’m an adult so it won’t keep me from reading this series. The adventure and story is so good it outweighs a couple cuss words for an adult reader, but it may be a deal breaker for some parents. Happy reading!
As a fiction book lover, this is great
It has nice things to it and very funny things
There is a storyline to it so read the first one first
This book is a book of “Happily Ever After”, literally. It’s funny and easy to read. Action – packed and contains wonderful characters. Chris Colfer really knows what his readers want and this book is what the readers want.
Very good series
This fractured-fairy tale (or was it?) Was really a magical twist. You learn how your favorite heroes deal with their dreaded enemies, yet the villians, too, have a story to tell. I highly recommend it–enjoy! 🙂
Asome love it
It is a great pick for young readers and it is very exciting!
