As Lady Margaret Ferguson’s twin brother, Gavin, lay on his deathbed, a plan of deception was set in motion. The Ferguson clan had always governed their land differently than most. Appointing Margaret as the new Laird upon her brother’s death wasn’t a stretch, and her people willingly accepted her. Disguised as her brother, her clan is committed to keeping Margaret’s identity hidden from … outsiders.
None of them accounted for invites to the Kings court. After Margaret declines all invitations, Sir Keelan MacDougall is directed to ensure the clan’s loyalty to the King during wartime. Keelan meets both Laird Gavin and his sister, Margaret, and the resemblance is uncanny. Exhausted after days of switching back and forth between her two personas’, Margaret is torn between wanting Keelan to leave and begging him to stay.
Margaret was promised she would be able to marry for love. When word gets out that she is acting as Laird of the Ferguson clan that privilege may be taken from her. But she won’t go down without a fight.

What a charming story. It was fun to read about Margaret and her brother Gavin. Her promise to him to carry on as laird. After Gavin’s death, Margaret ran her keep and lands with expertise, kindness and she was very responsible. Her people prospered under her guidance and had accepted her as laird. When two of the Kings men came to visit and observe, Margaret donned Gavin’s clothes and played his part. Keelan and Patrick were huge sized warriors and Margaret had eyes for Keelan. Turns out Keelan had eyes for her too. Keelan and Patrick turned out to be more than Margaret could hope for. They all became friends until her secret came out. Keelan made the king aware of Margaret’s duplicity. The king had yet to decide what to do about it when he and all the men had to leave to squash the beginning of a war. While the men were away, strangers came to the keep asking for shelter. Little did Margaret know what their real intentions were. Now that danger loomed, Margaret was unprepared for it and hoped Keelan and Patrick would return and help them. An entertaining story and I do recommend it.
Margaret brother her twin Gavin died from consumption. Upon his death bed he made her make a promise to pretend to be him to outsiders so noone challanges her lairdship. Kaleen and his forst command Patrick come to her keep under king business. There her chirade becomes difficult to keep up. After leraning of what is gappening in her keep he seeks the king and bring him to her keep. Will her secrets ruin a possible realtionship.
I enjoyed this book it was witty and sweet. The author made these characters come alive. Really loved Patricks sense of humor.

I enjoyed reading this story. The beginning started really strong. The setup of Margaret needing to be both herself and her brother was absolutely hilarious. I loved the romance between Margaret and Keelan. My interest level did drop a bit later in the book because I felt like Margaret went from a strong woman doing great as a Laird, to a damsel in distress waiting to be rescued. She did take some actions to help herself, but there was more she could’ve done. I also felt like the secondary romance plot lacked a little in development.

An enjoyable highland historical.
This was such an enjoyable highland historical romance I would recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of highlander’s romances. I would have loved to meet Lady Margaret she is one strong-willed character taking on the job of Laird could not have been easy. Then on meeting Keelan she wishes that she could just be herself but knows the problems that would cause. This is a well-written and delightful story. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Lady Margaret Ferguson made a promise to her brother Gavin as he lay dying that she would take over as Laird by posing as him. When she does not go to court the king sends Sir Keelan MacDougall to find out why the laird of clan Ferguson clan done so. I enjoyed reading their story as well as Patrick and Arabella’s. This is the first book by this Author that I have read and I will be looking to read more by her. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

She is exhausted with his visit and wants him to leave but she has fallen for him so what is to come of this situation her family is in.

To be left as a woman after the death of your father and your twin brother in a time where the woman has little to say, is not easy. However, her clan believes in her and supports the choice she makes. She promises her brother on his deathbed that she will protect the land and be the Laird. She does this and it works well for a while. The king’s desire to come to court is ignored until 2 of the king’s men are on her doorstep. Hilarious moments follow when she pretends to be Gavin (her late brother) and herself, Margareth. Only the 2 men stay longer than she expected and her acting is discovered. Can Keelan still trust her now that he has lost his heart to her. Can Margaret hold her own when others come to claim her land. And who is Annabel?
A wonderfully easy to read book for a cold night on the couch. Humor and love go hand in hand in this book

I never thought I would laugh so much reading this book. Margaret’s twin brother and laird dies, so she takes on the mantel as laird with the help of her beloved people. When the king sends two individuals to check on the laird’s loyalty to him, things get complicated and slap stick funny. A great story line.

Not a Good Read
This book had so many issues with it that I barely know where to start. It has been in the publication since 2017, so some issues that I saw are not simply because I received a free copy from a book review site. I was rather alarmed at the dangling modifier in the initial description within the book, which is also in the book blurb at Amazon. The book was also rife with run-on sentences and comma splices. Clearly this book was not properly copyedited or proofread. It was enough to be distracting. Too much modern language snuck in, like the medieval heroine wanting a “do-over.” Also, the supposed Scottish burr that she used in dialogue was irregular in its execution and simply wrong in places, even compared to other Scottish romances, let alone real-life Scottish people. Even though this book is longer than her typical novellas, the author I still didn’t do enough set up for all the various events that happened. It felt like she was just skipping through the story, getting to pivotal scenes in a flash without much transition—which was necessary to explain part of the background of the story. This made for poor story flow. All in all, I found this to be a disappointing book.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
The Laird’s Promise is a well written and enjoyable historical romance.
The characters are well developed and likable. The storyline engaged my interest from beginning to end, with humour, loyalty, danger, suspense, and romance.

But after refusing to go to court one two many times the King has sent to of his best men to discover why. Keelen things are strange and it’s giving me a headache trying to figure out what is going on and when he finds out he has to inform the King. Margaret is worried what will happen but before she can worry too much Keelen is called away Margret is left unprotected when her keep is taken over by some bad guys what will she do. This had romance secrets and some hilarious moments especially when Keelen had to get back in the keep to save Margret.

Cassidy K. O’Connor has written a 5-star book. In this book, Margaret has to pretend to be her twin brother Gavin the Laird since his death. Keelan, the Kings 2nd in command and Patrick, Keelan’s 2nd in command. They have come to check on Gavin and his clan along with the other clans in the area. Margaret is going to have to fool them if she wants to keep her land. She is hoping that the 2 will just be there for the night and leave the next morning, but things do not go as she hoped. It is driving her crazy switching back and forth between Gavin and herself. Her clan decided to have a celebration with games and she was watching when one of her guards came running up to her and said that the MacPhearson clan was riding hard towards them. Some of the guards that were at the celebration circled around Margaret with Keelan and Patrick out in front of her. MacPhearson said he wanted to speak to Gavin and Margaret said he was not there, he said for her to find him. She told him that he would not be back for a while. Margaret was getting mad and so was MacPhearson. Margaret asked if she could help him and he told her to go to the house and do women things. Keelan told him not to speak that way to Margaret and MacPherson asked Keelan who he thought he was. Keelan told him he was with the King’s army, MacPherson said he had no problem with the King and that Gavin had done him an injustice and he wants him to rectify it. Margaret said he would be waiting a long time since he would not be home for a long time. MacPhearson said he would do it their way and had some of his men bring 2 bundles up and laid them on the ground
The smaller bundle started to move and Keelan picked it up and gave it to Patrick and he picked up the other one. Keelan told Margaret that she needed to get the healers. They took the bundles up to the lair and unwrapped them. They were shocked to discover inside the bundles were a woman and a child. he healers did not know if the woman would make it till sunrise. Keelan asked Margaret to go and get her brother and she said she could not. That is when she told Keelan and Patrick that her brother had been dead almost a year and she had been acting as the Laird. After Keelan was told this he got mad and left the room. When she got up the next morning, she found out that Keelan had left and whet back to Court. It has been 2 weeks since Keelan had left and woman they now call Eve is getting better every day but still has not woken up. Patrick is there every day reading to her and taking care of the baby they now call Connor. She is up talking to Patrick when they hear running feet and she was told that there was a regiment coming towards them. Patrick told her that it would be better for her to say inside in case she had to come out as the Laird. She told him she was tired of pretending to be someone she wasn’t so she went outside with him. When Patrick saw who was coming he told her she was going to kill him. Margaret looked around Patrick and saw the King’s banners and agreed she was going to kill him. The king and his men only stayed one night because they had business to take care of in the south. It was 3 weeks since the King and his men left and a group of men came riding up. The leader of the group said his name was James and his son’s names were Francis and Shamus. Margaret did not feel right in letting them stay but she did. Now she has a choice to make. The father, his 2 sons and their men have taken over Margaret’s land. James told Margaret they needed to talk so that she knew what was going to happen. He told her that since there was no husband around then she would marry one of his sons in 2 days’ time. Starting that night she was to spend time with each son to see which one she wanted. She went in to talk to the cook and come up with a plan to make the men sick to give her some more time.
Can Margaret and her clan get out from under James and his men or will she be forced to marry one of the sons?
Will Keelan and Patrick get back in time to save Margaret and Eve?
This was an interesting book that will have you from the first page to the last. I would recommend this book to anyone.

This was a lovely quick read with lots of humor mixed in with danger and love. Margaret and Keelan first meet in quite unusual circumstances….she’s disguised as her twin brother, Gavin!! After Gavin’s death, Margaret takes on her brother’s role as Laird of her clan and when the King sends a couple of his men (Keelan and Patrick) to check up on them, she has no choice but to try to pretend she’s her brother since the King would most probably not allow a woman to be Laird. What ensues is quite hilarious:)
Danger presents itself when Margaret finds herself facing strangers who plan on taking over her role as Laird while Keelan and Patrick are away. I have to say, I never laughed so much as when Keelan and Patrick return and must don “disguises”….I could just picture it all!!! lolol
