PRAISE FOR GRETTA MULROONEY’S PREVIOUS NOVELS:
‘Mulrooney has a real gift for dialogue, the words and phrases ring true and make her characters wonderfully real… A tenderly funny and genuinely moving piece. I loved it.’ Fiona Morrow, Time Out
‘A beautifully observed study of reconciliation, Araby makes astute points about conflict and shifting values between generations.’ James Eve, The Times
‘I loved it. It’s such a sweet story, without being in the least sentimental. There are moments when the reader is absolutely there, so acute is this novelist’s ear and eye.’
Margaret Forster
‘All of this is wickedly, sharply amusing. But when they really join the party with an act of meaningless terror, Mulrooney shows how constructive and contagious that situation was. And as Nina slowly takes the sweet-natured Joan as her final victim, Marble Heart proves itself to be an excellent lesson in the difference between cleverness and wisdom.’ The Times

Entertaining.
The Lady Vanished is the first of a series of Tyrone Swift mysteries that I bought as a complete set. Swift is an engaging, complex character who is far from the private eye stereotype. He is a genuinely likeable character with a complex personal life, quirky neighbors and a keen mind. I’m good at solving mysteries, and I love one that leaves me stumped. This one kept me guessing until the end.
The more I read the Swift books, the more I enjoy them. This is a great series that mercifully avoids all the private eye clichés. I’ve reached the point where I have only the last book to read, but am hesitating because I really don’t want the series to be finished! It’s always nice to have a reliably good read to anticipate.
Tyrone Swift is a fascinating character that I have grown to love in this well written British detective series. I highly recommend the entire series, Oddly enough many of the authors that I follow has surnames that start with ‘M’ – is that ‘M’ for Murder?
Cheers Lynda L. Lock (Isla Mujeres Mystery series).
great story and characters
Pretty good; I didn’t catch on till the end ‘who dun it’ !
Great
A good mystery with an ex-law officer turned PI who wasn’t divorced! That in itself was different True, he had an ex or not-so-ex girlfriend but that moved the story along and spills over into the next book in the series. The ending was a surprise. I’m already reading the second book in the series.
Easy and enjoyable read
Not so good. Got tired of reading it. Seemed repetitive
Will follow this author after reading, and enjoying this book.
If you enjoy solving the mysteries as you read, be aware this is one of the books that doesn’t give you enough information to do so. The PI finds amazing information by stumbling upon it. That lends some realism, but doesn’t actively involve the reader, plus the clues are a stretch of the imagination. Regardless, it was a pleasant enough read, with some interesting and contrasting characters. I was not enamored of the ending. This was the first book in a series; I doubt I’ll read more.
hard to get into
Interesting story
I started this book but quit because I could not get into it. I’ll try again another time bit as of now I would not recommend it.
Loved meeting Ty Swift & company; such a good, easy read.
I liked this author. I also liked the London area descriptions.
Loved it!!!
Very well written, with well developed characters. The story was interesting, I was totally surprised by the outcome.
Great read!!
Reminds me of Agatha Christie, just not quite as polished as yet. Enjoyed the book and will read more of her novels.
