Cute story that continues about the family. Classic romance story with a strong female character. The story is a little steamy and sexy. This is my favorite in the series.
Oliver “Ace” is a man who has made his fortune the hard way. He began with his fists, then by learning to be both a gentleman and a businessman before entering the fringes of London society. He is ruthless, determined and trusts only a select few. Lady Althea “Thea” (friend of the Langleys) is the only one person who unsettles his world. She is feisty, opinionated and beautiful. As a duke’s daughter, she is far above his reach. Determined to put distance between them, he pushes her away. Thea pushes right back, not willing to be set aside. Ace soon realizes that walking away from her is going to be the hardest challenge he has ever faced. – Althea was outspoken, brave, and unlike other ladies of the ton. She and her brothers were friendly with staff and others who most of the ton considered beneath them. Ace had a difficult time accepting that, and it caused problems. The first two-thirds of the book were very slow. I loved the last third. It was entertaining.
I loved this story!
Made for gothic romance lovers. Neat story line
I TOLD YOU NOT TO LEAVE ENEMIES AT YOUR BACK! That’s probably a bit over the top, but I will tell you that I practically cheered when someone finally called a magistrate!
Also I thought Will was going to be my favorite, but Oliver was a very nice temporary book boyfriend. I will say that I’m feeling a little shorted because I want more time with Joe and Penny! I thought I would get more time while we were discussing his sister, but we did get to hang out with Oliver’s brother Daniel who is going to be lots of fun I can tell. I love this family and all their sniping at one another! Its so endearingly affectionate 🙂
Ace Dillinger is an ex-fighter & self made man that has risen above his humble beginnings by investing his winnings wisely in businesses & forming friendships & business deals with high society’s titled men who know you must invest in new industries in order to survive.
A duke’s daughter, Lady Althea Ryder will not be deterred from something she wants – she is stubborn to a fault, outspoken, feisty but kind. When she meets Ace at a bare knuckled fight that she talked her footman in to taking her; Ace sees her & insists on getting her of there before someone sees her & a scandal will occur. Althea finds herself very interest in her brothers’ friend, Ace and although they have never personally met, she wants to find a way to spend more time with him. Ace knows he is not good enough to spend time with his friends’ sister but can’t seem to stay away.
The friendships, scandals, life threatening occurrences, romance & love for all times is a journey you won’t want to miss! I love Wendy’s style of writing & her characters are always ones you fall in love with & root for until the end. I highly recommend this book & all the others in this series.
Second book in the series. Enjoyed the story.
The Lady Plays Her Ace is a fantastic historical romance by Wendy Vella. Ms. Vella has once again impressed me with her storytelling abilities. She has provided readers with a well-written book and furnished it with outstanding characters. Oliver fought for his fortune, with his fists and his brains. Althea is a Lady and Oliver has decided she’s not for him. Their story is loaded with drama, humor, action, sexy bits and suspense. I loved this story from the first page till the last and can’t wait to read my next book by Wendy Vella. The Lady Plays Her Ace is book 4 of The Langley Sisters Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
This is a great mystery/romance with good three-dimensional characters who keep you interested to the end. And it’s a good ending, though the plot will take a very winding and intriguing path to that end! Great writing.
The characters where witty and a joy to spend time with. While from different sides of society and Ace’s excuse, it only made you cheer for the lovely Lady Althea all the more. Definitely worth reading and now I want to know more about the Langley sisters.
Fun easy read
Ace was a different type of hero for these books and I liked that he was different. He was a fighter, and then business man. It was a sweet story and a nice romance.
Totally unrealistic
I’m a Wendy Vella fan and was not disappointed with this book. Enjoyed the story line and characters.
Good storyline.
I loved this book! I loved the main characters and the supporting cast of charectors. It got me right from the beginning with the boxing match. Recommend it hot everyone.
All Vella books are great!
A one note story without much of a plot. Characters keep saying the same things over and over again. I read 45 percent of the book, trying to give it a chance, but just had to give up. Boring.
Mildly entertaining but not one of books you can’t put down. The story was very predictable and there was a little too much of everything turning out wonderful
Not a clean read.
