A beautiful story (Purn a pukka ungredge ne che (Guj)). You could use a language and customs editer. The danse described might be what a barn danse caller might call ‘strip the willow’ or some of the description suggests ‘The gay Gordons’ ( a Scottish danse), but it is certainly not a waltz. Waltz a dance from Vienna, now popular the world over, where couples independently circle the floor.
Nevertheless a lovely story well told.
Cecilia Prescott and her mother the Dowager Viscountess of Holden discovered that before the Viscount died he had invested his money and the investment a year after his death had gone belly up and they were broke totally and completely. Cecile’s mother said that she had to get married to a titled and well the gentleman before the Ton discovered that they were completely broke. At a ball they attended that evening Lady Lucy Mormont introduced herself then took Cecilia to meet her friends and introduced her to her brother Gerald the Marquess of Malbrook she was also introduced to Robert Fanning, the Earl of Lothmire. The Duke of Belshire was Gerald and Lucy’s father and Robert’s godfather. The Duke wants Gerald married to a proper lady this season. Cecilia has become the chosen bride. In a visit to the Ducal home Cecilia and her mother are welcomed. To find out who she marries whether her secrets come out or whether general secrets come out you have to read the book. It’s a good book…
Great storyline with interesting characters with a entrapment scheme and betrayal and how it’s overcome. The story flows smoothly and keeps your interest right to the end.
My free opinion. Thanks
I loved this book! Action packed from beginning to end, it kept me on the edge of my seat! I couldn’t put it down. It’s really well written, the characters are very well developed and engaging. What an awful thing to discover, that the family of the man you will probably marry is tricking you into the marriage by deceit, to save their son’s reputation and their family name. Cecilia went through a lot, but she was a strong woman and a survivor, who was able to finally marry the man she loved. I loved the epilogue and extended epilogue and was thrilled to see Robert and Cecilia get their own happily ever after. The book was a very pleasurable read.
This an extremely well written book. It shows another facet of the need to marry. One common denominator is financial. Lady Cecilia Prescott and her mother were informed after the father passed away that he lost everything. They were destitute. Their only option was for Cecilia to make an advantageous match before word got out. She is only nineteen and thought she would have more time. However, duty was something she would not shirk to keep her mother in a comfortable lifestyle. Another reason one would marry would be to look more respectable in society. Lord Gerald Mormont, Marquess of Malbrook, heir to the Duke of Belshire, is one such person. His recent transgression had his father force his hand into marriage to clean up the Belshire name. Gerald has been coddled by both his parents and as a result he is a difficult, moody, possessive, spoiled, entitled, selfish young man. He has been given everything he wants and he does exactly as he pleases regardless of the consequences and he is never held responsible by his parents. Now that he is in great trouble, the Duke calls upon his godson, Lord Robert Fanning, Earl of Lothmire. Robert as the second son never expected to inherit and became a solicitor. A very good solicitor who took cases on for the poor who have been unjustly treated. When his parents had passed away, the Duke raised him and his older brother Charles as his own sons. But Gerald was always the jealous type and was a thorn in Robert’s side. After Charles death, Robert inherited the title and a very sizable fortune. He did not have to work but he continued because it gave him satisfaction knowing he was fighting something good in this world. When the Duke summoned Robert to assist him and Gerald out of his latest mess, Robert did not refuse. He felt he owed a debt to the Duke for what he did for him growing up and when time came to take over the Earldom, the Duke had taken the time to educate Robert on what to do. Robert was assigned to clean up the mess quietly and to accompany Gerald to balls so that he could oversee any respectable match Gerald could make. That evening Robert was arriving at the ball and saw the most beautiful sight he had ever seen. He laid his eyes on Cecilia. But he had a job to do so he put her out of his mind. Little did he know that the first time Cecilia saw him she was drawn to him too and neither of them had ever met. During the ball Gerald caught Cecilia’s eye with his suave charm and gentlemanly way. Cecilia could not have hoped for a better match. At the invitation of the Marquess, Cecilia and her mother were invited to Gerald’s home for a couple of weeks to get to know each other. This is where the battle for Cecilia’s heart and soul was fought. Would Cecilia’s instincts win over her drive for duty? Would Cecilia sacrifice her own inclinations for duty? Would Cecilia ignore the subtle truths of the way things really were for duty? Would Cecilia still sacrifice her freedom, her soul, her heart if the truth hit her in the face? Or was her family’s dire financial situation override everything else? What of Cecilia’s own heart, would she follow its lead even if it is away from Gerald? This is such a stirring emotional tale of how far one family would go to hide their problems. An excellent read. I highly recommend it.
Cecilia Prescott’s father passed away leaving Cecilia and her mother with a lot of debt. The only way out is for Cecilia to marry someone of means and title. She is pursued by Lord Malbrook who seems like a good match. The family is hiding secrets of misdeeds committed by Lord Malbrook. A good historical romance novel that was fun to read.
