Secrets told in the church ladies’ room are supposed to stay in the ladies’ room. But that doesn’t mean that what Trudy overhears there during her great-aunt Gertrude’s funeral won’t change the rest of her life.
Trudy has a daughter in the middle of a major rebellion; a two-timing husband who has been cheating for their entire married life; and a mother with Alzheimer’s residing in the local … local nursing home. She doesn’t really need a crumbling old house about to fall into nothing but a pile of memories and broken knickknacks.
Billy Lee Tucker, resident oddball in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, lived next door to Gert, and in her will she leaves him the funds to help Trudy remodel the old house. That’s fine with Billy Lee, because he’s been in love with Trudy since before they started school. And just spending time with her is something he’d never ever allowed himself to dream about.
A beautiful home rises up from the old house on Broadway, and right along with it rises up a relationship. But is Trudy too scarred from what she heard in the ladies’ room to see a lovely future with Billy Lee?

What a fun story of a woman enjoying her freedom from a loveless marriage and her feisty ways of making her way.
Poor Trudy! Overhearing her cousins discussing what a cad her husband has been for years while using the rest room during a funeral has got to be the lowest point of her life. She’s the last to know. The humiliation and embarrassment she feels are enough for her to stand up for herself finally and throw caution to the wind. She is done! I laughed …
A light, eazy read where everything ties up nicely. The good people get good things and the bad people get their comeuppance. If only real life were like that!
A fun story of what happens when a cheated-on woman decides to take charge of her life. In a funny, but also emotional scene, Trudy is at her Aunt Gert’s funeral when a trip to the ladies’ room results in an unexpected revelation. Any woman can empathize with Trudy’s trials involving pantyhose and bathrooms, which made the first part of the scene …
Carolyn Brown writes an entertaining story with homey characters you recognize and enjoy. Enjoyed this story!
I enjoyed this funny, but tragic in a way, with a great narrator.
Trudy is in the Ladies Room during her Great Aunt Gert’s funeral when her two cousins come in ,not knowing she is there. They both talk about their crazy old aunt then about how Trudy’s husband has been stepping out on her for twenty years and his current fling is a young tellers the local bank. The they say Trust’s daughter just got married and …
This book was a wonderful surprise. It was not my typical genre but hooked me from the first chapter. It is warm, funny and cozy like wrapping up in a warm blanket on a snowy day. I loved it!
I really enjoyed this book! It is the first I have read by Carolyn Brown, I think.
I laughed out loud at the sassy thoughts of Trudy, who was too much of a lady to say them out loud! Bwahahaha!
The author captures the ‘sometimes’ true nature of our church ladies, friends and family. It is amazing the things said in the ‘privacy’ of the ladies …
I’ve yet to read a Carolyn brown book I didn’t love. Southern characters with accents you can hear. Realistic people and situations that you know happen, but you can’t really imagine. Written with humor and wit that you can’t stop until the end. This one was recommended early,on and I held off, but not idea why as I absolutely loved it!
If you like heroines over 40 (actually she turns 40 during the book), very, very
slow-burn romance, and a sweet story about a woman finding herself and her true
love, then this is the book for you. It’s a perfect light read for a lazy summer day.
I like her books . I loved the main character that she didn’t have to change herself and she grew over the book and found love
My favorite Carolyn Brown book. Sweet, funny, book with characters that seem real.
This is a story of one woman waking up and finding that her roses were stinking. Sitting in the Ladies’ Room, she is awakened when she overhears gossip about the tragic lies, missed opportunities, and drama that she’s unwittingly been living within. She’s in the enviable position of having both a new home and financial security so that she, like …
The Queen of Real People strikes again!
These characters are so real you could be one. What I loved the most was her description of living with a Mother with dementia. Not just the awful sadness, but the glimmer of Self that shines through every now and then. I found that to be a Wonderful part of this book!
This book has it all….infidelity, betrayal, forgiveness, estranged family member, self loathing, revenge…and to top it off….a touch of HGTV! Can’t recommend it enough!
One of her best!
This was my first Carolyn Brown book. I have to admit, it took me a while to really begin to savor it, but somewhere along the way my mindset began transitioning from thinking “What a soap opera,” (I’m not a fan) to, “Really? Wow, this is just so perfect now, even though it’s all quite horrible and awful,” to yes, there I was, rooting for the …
This is the funniest, sweetest, kick butt, stand up for yourself kind of book I have read in a long time…. Fall in the floor belly laugh kind of book…then tender, then sassy, then life lessons!!
What a great book…be sure and read this author.

I usually love my books super steamy, but this sweet, slow boil of a romance will go down as one of my favorite books of 2018. Swoony beta hero Billy Lee quietly fixed up the heroine’s heart while he fixed up her house. Loved it.
