Pam Jenoff is a marvelous writer! This story takes place in war-torn Poland under cruel Nazi occupation. Ms Jenoff has a wealth of knowledge on the subject having been a State Department diplomat handling Holocaust issues in that country. I love a good, suspenseful page-turner that also informs… an excellent book!
Pam Jenoff has a gift for storytelling and this book is no exception. It is the story of a young Jewish woman whose husband is a Resistance fighter. When he disappears to help the Resistance, Emma’s “adventure” begins. After joining her parents in the Ghetto, she is escorted out by a Resistance spies and taken to her husband’s aunt. There she …
Loved the book. Not your average Holocaust story. Have recommended it.
The Kommandant’s Girl showed once again the courage of the Jewish people in Nazi occupied Europe. Emma found two people who she needed as much as they needed her. Their relationships showed that love and humanity can survive even in the worst of situations. The Jewish resistance showed well in the book as well. Emma was very well developed and …
One of my favorite books! A page turner! This was the first book
I read of Pam Men off and that is why I read all her books
To date. All were good, but for me this was the best!!!
Such a good book. I read these out of order. Read the Ambassador’s Daughter first. This book can be read as a stand alone but the first book gives an interesting background on one of the characters in this book. I love Pam Jenoff’s books!
A very suspenseful and powerful story about survival and the risks which people have to take to protect themselves and their families.
Set in Poland during World War II, with brilliant characters, I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Compelling story. Kept me engaged.
Once again, Jenoff scores a home run. I love her books because she uses true facts with some enhancements to make it interesting. Her books are so emotional, you can’t put them down.
Hard to put down. Loved the characters!
Think stories like this have to be shared so people know what Jews did to survive/endured WWII.
learned more about this time period
This book is an easy read. More fiction then historical novel. Enjoyable.
Very entertaining as well as enlightening. During the war, many people were forced to make life and death choices and this story of a young woman put in that position is
totally entertaining
Excellent fiction! Characters were well developed. A terrible time In our history. Even though this book is fiction it is a reminder of the pain and sacrifices endured during the Holocaust. We must never forget so that history does not repeat itself. Couldn’t wait to see how it ended.
Great to know what people did in WW2 to survive and protect others
While the story is sad, it is so well written. As we already know though, there weren’t enough happy story endings during & after WWII.
Great historical novel set during WW2
I enjoyed the suspense.
There was a little too much filler in which we were subjected to the main character’s doubts and fears, which were fairly repetitive. In addition, she made some terrible decisions to do the opposite of what wiser characters told her to do, with predictable outcomes…similar to a horror movie where the audience yells “Don’t go in there!” but of …
