Vampires, fae, and demons! This is my kind of good time. It never occurred to me to consider this an erotica ‘format’! I’m glad I asked to review this work by Rissa Blakeley! She has an incredible premise for her series–in a world where Fae and Vampires are against one another, a vampire is awarded the crown to rule the realm! Wow! She introduces readers to a concept most folks would never consider–an incubus who truly loves a succubus! Before I could wrap my mind around such a novel and wonderful concept, the succubus is executed for attempting to kill the king, and the incubus plots a plan to avenge his lover. He fathers a half-breed son and uses dream imagery to forge a romance of his son to the very king that executed his succubus! Dang, folks! This was some kind of hot and rather well thought out. Ms. Blakeley shores up a definite win by having Keval Shah narrate this work. His accent is delightful and he is fully on board with delivering a wonderful performance for the book. It is my sincerest hope that the writer continues to use him for the other books in the series. Wow, just fricking wow!
I am usually not a paranormal/fantasy reader, but I was hooked on this book from the very beginning. The characters felt larger than life and I was so eager to see where things would go with such determination and vengeance on the table.
There was plenty of heat and eroticism throughout this story and a drama unlike anything else that I have read before.
The deeper I got into the story, the more I was hooked and the faster I tried to read.
Things got even more intense than I was expecting and when the timeline jumped to the present, I just couldn’t believe that much time had passed with all this mystery and struggle.
This was a fantastic read and by the end, I knew that I needed to my hands on the next book in the series immediately.
This author sure has a way of writing books that stick with you.
This was a little out of my usual realm. I haven’t read many books about Fae/ Incubus/ Succubi, but I didn’t let that stop me. The concepts of dream-walking and the abilities of the Fae were so intriguing. There are so many layers to the plot. It starts of with Leolin (Fae) planning to overthrow the Vampire king. Leolin dream-walks, impregnating a Vampire with the intent of creating a powerful half-breed. But when his wife is killed, things become twisted. He then gets into the dreams of both his son, Monty, and the king, Zachariah, influencing them to be attracted to each other, so he can then later rip them apart and break the King’s heart. FREAKY, right? So even though the plot gets complicated, it’s easy enough to follow and keep you interested. The jumps through time are well placed to keep the story flowing (it ends up spanning centuries, so it’s necessary). The sex is pretty hot, and their affection is powerful. The end is a bit abrupt, but it leaves you begging for more. I can’t wait to read the next part of the story.
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review
If you have read Rissa Blakeley’s Shattered Lives series, you are already familiar with her rich story telling. This new series from Rissa is different but so wonderful! It is a story of love and betrayal like no other. She has dipped her toe in the erotic fantasy and dove in!
Leolin, a character deeply in love with not only his wife, but with power, plots the demise of Zachariah in a truly devious and utterly devastating way. Enter Monty. The love between him and Zachariah is so powerful and beautiful, you root for them. Will their love survive the devastation that is surely to come?
This book is captivating and sets up the series nicely! Oh, I forgot to mention the wide array of vampires, incubus, succubus and fae. Myth and magic scattered throughout, this is a fantasy romance like nothing out there I have read. She manages to capture such great emotions that this story is one that stays with you.
What inquiring minds will want to know is: When will book 2 be out?? Once you pick this up, you won’t be able to put it down. Hang on for a great ride! A copy provided for an honest review. 5 out of 5 stars.
