S. A. Chakraborty continues the sweeping adventure begun in The City of Brass—“the best adult fantasy I’ve read since The Name of the Wind” (#1 New York Times bestselling author Sabaa Tahir)—conjuring a world where djinn summon flames with the snap of a finger and waters run deep with old magic; where blood can be dangerous as any spell, and a clever con artist from Cairo will alter the fate of a … finger and waters run deep with old magic; where blood can be dangerous as any spell, and a clever con artist from Cairo will alter the fate of a kingdom.
Nahri’s life changed forever the moment she accidentally summoned Dara, a formidable, mysterious djinn, during one of her schemes. Whisked from her home in Cairo, she was thrust into the dazzling royal court of Daevabad—and quickly discovered she would need all her grifter instincts to survive there.
Now, with Daevabad entrenched in the dark aftermath of a devastating battle, Nahri must forge a new path for herself. But even as she embraces her heritage and the power it holds, she knows she’s been trapped in a gilded cage, watched by a king who rules from the throne that once belonged to her family—and one misstep will doom her tribe..
Meanwhile, Ali has been exiled for daring to defy his father. Hunted by assassins, adrift on the unforgiving copper sands of his ancestral land, he is forced to rely on the frightening abilities the marid—the unpredictable water spirits—have gifted him. But in doing so, he threatens to unearth a terrible secret his family has long kept buried.
And as a new century approaches and the djinn gather within Daevabad’s towering brass walls for celebrations, a threat brews unseen in the desolate north. It’s a force that would bring a storm of fire straight to the city’s gates . . . and one that seeks the aid of a warrior trapped between worlds, torn between a violent duty he can never escape and a peace he fears he will never deserve.

This story is a delight and I can’t wait to dive into the final book in the series.
The author really stepped up the tension in book 2, creating so many twists and adds to the lore, I was on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. The world-building is incredible and I’m invested in all characters.
If you love mythology, fairy tales, fantasy, political intrigue, characters coming into their own, and a bit of romance, you’ll probably adore this book.
The whole series was developed in an engaging manner
I love how much this book draws the reader in with the intensely personal conflict and gorgeous worldbuilding.
I LOVE this series. This is the sequel to The City of Brass. It’s epic fantasy, with elements of romance, but the world building is first class and it’s wonderful to immerse yourself in middle eastern myths and read about djinn and daevas etc. The politics of this series are intricate and I’m loving the fact the characters are complex and flawed. Soneela Nankani is a wonderful narrator. There were a few slower moments in this one, but overall the pacing is excellent.
I was just as swept up in The Kingdom of Copper as I was in City of Brass. The book kept me guessing what would happen next all the way through. The relationships between all of the characters felt dynamic and complicated in realistic and changing ways. I loved the twists and turns, and am still enthralled by the setting. Another great book by S.A. Chakraborty!
This series is absolutely amazing. I cannot recommend enough.
Chakraborty upped her game with this 2nd book!!! I didn’t think it could get anymore heart pounding exciting. The first book blew me away and this one was even better. This is an excellent series!!!
You need to read the first book in the series, ‘City of Brass’ first. While not quite as good as the first book it’s worth reading. Insights into the middle eastern culture.
Epic sequel to the entrancing City of Brass.
Excellent use of foreshadowing and history. I’m looking forward to reading the final book in this trilogy!!!
Second book in series was very enjoyable. Can’t wait for next one!
I did not like how it ended !
S. A. Chakraborty does it again. We take a leap forward in Kingdom of Copper, and it’s the right move to make. You see a clear picture of where all of the characters are and what positions they find themselves in. Then Chakraborty takes you on a magnificent ride full of politics, a brewing revolution, and a swarm of feelings. This book was a truly incredible and delightful read. It swept me away, and it will do the same to you.
I’m so glad I won this book in a giveaway, as It introduced me to my new favorite fantasy author. I hadn’t read the first book when I won the second so I had to buy that to read first, thereby beginning my love affair with S.A. Chakraborty’s books! She definitely has an affinity for building imaginative, fantastical worlds. One of the unique things about the magical Djinn world she’s built in the Daevabad trilogy, is that she’s woven it in with the Middle East as we knew it in the 18th century. When the Ottomans still had an empire and Egypt was filled with the soldiers of Napoleon’s Grande Armée . The detail in the djinn world is absolutely incredibly. You can picture yourself walking the streets of Daevabad and the way she describes it, you can almost smell the foods and spices at the market. You can envision the bustling streets filled with tents of every color and vendors yelling at prospective buyers. And don’t even get me started on the characters. She’s makes you like all of them, even as they are fighting amongst themselves and you know some of them have done horrible things, she still makes you empathize and love them. With their imperfections and regrets, she makes them real. My only complaint is that I have to wait to find out what happens next with Nahri, Ali and Dara. This book ended with quite a shock.. I can’t wait until the third one! This is definitely my new favorite fantasy series. I could totally see it is as a movie/ tv series. However, if that were to happen, the books would be quite hard to live up to!
