A gentleman that owns the night, a lady that plays her cards close to her chest. At Almack’s, lovers gamble with their hearts. Is it even possible that someone could win?Lord Calvin Cain is the self-professed King of Almack’s and matchmaker to all other men but himself. He’s a rogue, a dandy, an incomprehensible ne’er-do-well who would rather watch the lives of others be destroyed by love than … destroyed by love than his own. When Lord Cain is finally challenged, both at the card table and in his affections, will he be able to come out on top?
Lady Diana Crosby displays impeccable breeding, delightful wit, and admirable beauty, but she cares more for playing cards than for the shining gossamer of Almack’s. Losing her reputation provides no threat, but losing her heart to Society’s fiercest bachelor does.
In a society that thrives off gossip and intrigue, is it safe to set a wager on true love? Lord Cain and Lady Diana can’t help but play all or nothing, and neither knows who’ll take the pot, and who will be left empty-handed.

For those like me who enjoy Regency Period romance, Agnes Forest’s The King of Hearts: An Almack’s Chronicle is a true treat. Lady Diana Crosby and Lord Calvin Cain are perfectly crafted characters – and perfect for each other. Read the publisher’s blurb for this tale. If you find it even remotely appealing I guarantee you’ll love the book. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises – the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.
Hilarious, Clean Fun, A Must Read
This hysterical story reintroduces us to a beloved character from “Lady Josephina’s Secret (Almack’s Assembly Rooms Book 2)” I recommend you read this, but it is not necessary to enjoy this book. I loved reading this witty, riveting and exhilarating book. The Hero and the heroine were two peas in a pod which made it all the more comical. However, there was also the sensitive side to them. Both felt constrained by the standards put forth by polite society. Thus neither of them felt free to be their carefree, natural and interesting self, thus had to conceal their true personality. But when they met, they found a kindred spirit. At first, our hero, Lord Calvin Cain was leery about our heroine, Lady Diana Crosby. Because he had his heart shredded in the past, he aimed to see things that were not what they appeared to be. So he was mucking up their courting. Happily, Lord Cain came to the realization that it was time to grow up and accept responsibility. He would pursue Lady Diana and win. This is a great story and a must read. I highly recommend it. I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This, in my opinion, was not the greatest of stories. There is a lot of verbal banter between the two main characters and very little actual story. In fact I found the male character a bit abusive. So if you enjoy this kind of book, then by all means go for it.
I read an advance copy of this ebook and this is my voluntary and unbiased review.
