Enjoyed this dark story and characters. Although I found several inconsistencies between this story and the sister story.
This book begins with a 6 or 7 year old girl living a very rough life and a runaway teenager.
It is a sad and kind of interesting story line. It could have been great.
The two cross paths later when she is 15. She suffers some unthinkable things because of her father’s poor decisions at hands of the H’s father. Although things are just alluded to not actually described.
I struggled more with the way it was written and the lack of details, not the content of the book.
I will not not waste my time or money on the next book.
I have seen the reviews and heard nothing but great things about Skye Warren’s, The King. So I was happy to dive into the book. Little did I know the emotional roller coaster I was going to get myself into. This is my first book I have read by Skye Warren. I seriously need to read her other books she has before this duet.
My heart was crying for Damon. He was trapped and his only saving grace was Penny. When he first met her, you knew that there was some innocence in these two. Not so much in Damon, but he still had a bit of growing to do. When they meet again, he has so much he hopes for and Penny may help him get them both there. I yelled at my Kindle a time or two cussing out Penny’s father. I reflected after the book and know that I need to read the conclusion in The Queen. I am a fan of Skye and The King was definitely a Masterpiece!
The Masterpiece Duet is a spin-off of Skye Warren’s Endgame series, but I highly recommend reading the Endgame series first to fully understand the story.
This story is dark and twisted. You’d also expect it to be steamy, but surprising there isn’t any sexy or romantic scenes. Damon and Penny have a strong attraction but they both fight it. Damon believes he’s too old and corrupt, and Penny believes that Damon is too dangerous.
This book also has some parts that run parallel to the Endgame series. Unfortunately I thought that the story wasn’t as fluid, and I didn’t enjoy this as much as the other books. I really hope that the next book is more focused on them.
Overall I enjoyed this journey, and I can’t wait for the next book about Penny and Damon. As they are paying for the actions created by their fathers, I’m sure The Queen is going to blow me away.
Great read. Looking forward to the next book.
