He’s a grumpy silver fox who’s about to become a grandfather, and she’s the sunshiny young midwife who wants babies of her own… town—her midwife.
Kerry Humphrey finds her new client’s father…unsettling. He’s tall and brooding and always there, hovering in the background of appointments. And then there’s the crackle of off-limits chemistry every time they’re alone. She hates that, too, but Pine Harbour is a tiny place, and avoiding the young grandfather-to-be in a town of six hundred people and a single Main Street proves impossible.
Everything about their attraction is ill-fated. But it won’t go away.
Fall in love with the Kincaids of Pine Harbor in this sizzling start to a brand-new small town romance series from New York Times Bestselling Author Zoe York.

Angsty but sweet single-dad romance
Owen should get Father of the Year awards, though he’d probably turn them down. He handles his daughter’s unexpected pregnancy with aplomb, determined to use his own experience with a teen pregnancy to help Becca navigate her uncertain future.
Kerry is a wonderfully caring midwife, professional and confident with a strong sense of purpose and a desire for her own family. Her relationship with Owen, after a necessary delay, is intense and combustible, until they come up against an irrefutable fact that threatens to derail any chance of a future.
I loved seeing these two work together for Becca, then love together as their romance blossoms. The problem they run into is completely relatable and leaves neither of them at fault, but still it’s understandable why the relationship couldn’t continue. Until it could. I loved the “mix tape” at the end, and the decisions made to bridge the huge gap so they can have a solid, secure HEA.
After reading the second in this series as an ARC, I went back to grab this one to get caught up with the Kincaid brothers, and I’m so glad I did. Each book is a standalone romance, but the brothers are so intricately connected that each book truly enhances the others.
I loved this visit to the tiny hamlet of Pine Harbour, and I’ve already got several more of the previous series queued up in my TBR. I highly recommend that you take a trip to Pine Harbour as soon as you can. I guarantee you’ll fall in love with the Kincaid brothers.
Thumbs Up!! This story was great and getting to know Owen & Kerry was fun. Owen’s situation broke my heart at times and Kerry is so perfect for him. Kerry was also a rockin’, independent woman who knew her heart and what she wanted out of life. I LOVED that! This story is a slow build, sweet, sexy and fun story. Can’t wait to read the next story!!
I am so excited for more Pine Harbour!! This starts a series about the Kincaid brothers. Owen is the oldest and most brooding brother. He has had to take care of his brothers and his daughter since he was 21. He wants the best for them and for Becca, and not have to go through what he did. Owen is looking forward to his bachelor time once Beccca graduates but his plans go south when she tells him she is pregnant. Kerry is looking to start over and a new midwife job is just the thing. She is always professional with her patients, but the grumbly, handsome alpha Owen throws her for a loop! The sparks are there, but they try very hard to ignore them. I love their story, how Becca’s story is woven in. It’s emotional, heart breaking, passionate, loving….I absolutely loved this and can’t wait for Adam’s story!!!
This is a great small-town romance with a very interesting plot and great storyline
The chemistry between the two main characters is hot and steamy.
A great read
Reckless At Heart is a phenomenal contemporary romance by Zoe York. Ms. York had given readers a well-written book and filled it with amazing, lovable characters. Owen is looking forward to his teenage daughter moving out and living the bachelor life. Until she said the words. “Dad, I’m pregnant.” Kerry, a midwife, is new in town and is determined not to get involved with her patient’s father. Owen and Kerry’s story is heartwarming and heartbreaking in equal measures. Their story is loaded with drama, humor, smokin’ hot sexy bits and a touch of angst. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from Zoe York in the future. Reckless At Heart is book 1 of The Kincaids of Pine Harbour Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I’ve had this book in my TBR pile for a while and I was finally able to get a chance to read it. I absolutely loved it. Owen Kincaid and Kerry Humphrey clicked and had something between them from the moment that they met. Sometimes it wasn’t so good, but there was chemistry there that they were both fighting.
This is an outstanding story with fabulous characters, a great plot, humor, and romance. I loved it except I prefer clean books and halfway through I had to skip multiple sections of this one due to erotic sex scenes. Rated R. So disappointed. I won’t be reading any more of this series.
I devoured this book. Fair warning, I am a total fan girl of all things Zoe York. This book does not disappoint. This is the first book in the wonderfully quaint Kincaids of Pine Harbour series. You see some overlap of these characters from Zoe’s Pine Harbour series. I love having the intertwining of characters that I loved so much in these new books.
We meet Owen K, a single dad to a teenage girl, getting ready for his Bachelor years once she is off to college. Well, their world is thrown for a loop when his 18 year old daughter gets pregnant, a fate he did not want for his daughter. He knows the hardships of a teenage pregnancy and had different hopes for her. Insert Kerry. Kerry moves to Pine Harbour shortly before crossing paths with Owen for the first time. She is a midwife who ends up caring for Owen’s daughter. The two continue to tow the professional line, fighting the chemistry building between them at every interaction.
Time moves forward, Kerry and Owen get a chance at love. The sweetness in the development of their relationship really stuck with me. It wasn’t rushed, they had to wait, had time to learn each other and then BAM. It’s over. There is a scence where you feel Owen’s heartbreak, this from a rough, tough, kickass guy, who is really a gentle giant underneath it all. I admit I may have had a few tears in my eye for a scence or two because each character’s heartbreak, broke my heart. As a reader you root for the good couples and hope the writer will slowly meander them back together. This book will leave you with a smile and an excitement for what’s to come!
Looking forward to reading the other Kincaid brothers stories!
Wow! A beautiful story of a young man that was hit with impossible situations. That stepped up and handled them with love not bitterness.
I loved the first book in Zoe York’s new book series! The Kincaids of Pine Harbour brings us back to a great small town with favorite characters while introducing us to some new ones. I’m looking forward to reading more books in this series in the future.
I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.
This is a swoony read about 2 very real-to-life characters dealing with realistic life issues. Their romance warmed my heart. I loved following their journey to their HFN. I hope to see more of them in the next books about Owen’s brothers.
I received a free copy from Netgalley. This is my unbiased review.
Loved this slow burn small town romance. The setting, characters and the storyline are realistic and relatable, not only focusing on the relationship between Owen and Kerry, but also between Owen and his brothers and his daughter. As a Canadian I particularly enjoyed the references to familiar places. Looking forward to reading more from this series.
The Kincaids of Pine Harbour is my new favorite family. I can’t wait to read the rest of the brothers’ stories, but Owain is definitely a romance hero that will stay with me for a while. He’s gruff. He’s charming. He’s sexy. He’s an excellent lover. At least Kerry thinks so, but it takes a while before she finds out because these two are like oil and water when they first met, but the sexual chemistry is through the roof. I love the secondary characters. I love the setting. I love the realistic every-day life problems that the people of the town deal with. Most of all, I love the slow, slow buildup to these two wonderful characters discovering they are right for each other and finally figure out to make it work to be together.
Many of today’s romance novels have heroes and heroines who are in their early to mid-twenties. It is refreshing to read about a couple who are in their 30s and trying to figure out how to make the demands of their careers, their everyday life, their other responsibilities to work while also having a romance. Plus, I love the Canadian setting and the town of Pine Harbour. Pick up this book! You will not be disappointed!
Reckless At Heart is one of those books that will reel you in and keep you reading. It’s a sexy single dad/forbidden romance read with a twist.
Owen Kincaid is like a sexy puzzle. There are pieces to him, to his life, that will have you confused until you see how they all fit together. He’s 37 years old, divorced, big brother, paramedic, firefighter, army reservist, leader and father. His daughter Becca is 18 and pregnant making him also a grandfather. Intrigued? You should be.
Kerry is a beautiful and complex woman in her mid thirties. She’s a midwife, dedicated to her patients, and to the community at large. Her dedication to her practice has her perpetually single but her biological clock is a ticking and her thoughts have turned to having a baby of her own.
The chemistry between Owen and Kerry is a living, breathing entity that they must suppress as Becca is under her care. Watching them dance around their attraction is sexy hot and when they are finally free to indulge in their feelings your kindle will catch fire.
Their relationship is complex because they are at completely different points in their life. Owen is looking forward to being a bachelor, free of parental responsibilities while Kerry is still waiting to have her first child. Is love enough to keep these two together? Trust me when I say you need to read this book and see for yourself what Owen and Kerry’s happily ever after looks like…..TBR and Enjoy.
All the feels for this story. This story touched so many emotions that I was crying near the end, which was a good cry not a bad one. Owen has not had an easy life, first he got his teenage girl pregnant, they got married had a daughter and got divorced. Then his father died, so he had to come back home and help his mom with his four younger brothers, but six months later their mom was gone. Now Owen was not only trying to help raise his daughter, but also his brothers. Now fast forward about 18 years and Owen has just heard his daughter tell him that she is pregnant.
Kerry is a midwife and is involved in a clinic with her best friend and fellow midwife, Jenna. They decide to open a branch office in Pine Harbour and one of their first clients is Owen’s daughter, Becca. Sparks start flying between Owen and Kerry once she figures out that he is Becca’s dad not boyfriend and once Owen realizes that he doesn’t really resent Kerry he just doesn’t have much practice in the dating department.
Owen’s brothers are a fun and colorful group, Becca’s baby’s daddy is trying in more ways than one and there are common friends between Owen and Kerry, but the biggest obstacle just might be the subject of children. Read the book to see if Owen and Kerry can find an HEA together or if they are destined to only be friends.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op I was able to voluntarily read an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is the opening book in The Kincaids of Pine Harbor series and it features Owen and Karrie. After 18 years it’s finally time for him to live the bachelor life he never got to live. He’s very attracted to his daughters midwife, Karrie, but must keep it professional until after the baby is born. Owen and Karrie are still young in their mid-30s. She totally brings out the best in him. She makes him feel like it’s OK to start living again. Things are going great until he says the one thing guaranteed to make her walk out the door.
Amazing story line! This series, like its predecessor, has the best small-town characters. These are people I would love to call friends. I have fallen in love with Owen’s gruff, “take care of everyone” personality. I can’t wait to read the next book in this fabulous series.
Wow, let me start by saying I absolutely loved this story and if I could give it a 10 stars rating, I would.
Owen Kincaid is a man that when he became a teenage father and shortly after, responsible for his younger brothers, his life changed forever. Nineteen years later, he thinks his “bachelor” years are within reach, until his daughter, Becca, tells him she’s pregnant.
When Owen feels he’s getting things under control, a new curveball comes his way in the form of Kerry Humphrey, the new midwife in town and Becca’s midwife. The attraction is instant but neither will cross that boundary, at least not until Becca is no longer Kerry’s client.
As a relationship develops, feelings get in the way, and what each thought they wanted starts to change. Will the end result be getting hurt and each going their separate ways leaving behind a part of themselves?
At times heartbreaking and at others heartwarming , the story reminds us that sometimes our hopes and goals change for the better. Also, that life is messy, and unpredictable, but it’s what we do with it , that makes it wonderful and worth the ride.
As an aside, I foresee more wonderful stories in store for us with the rest of the Kincaid brothers.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
I was left when such a happy feeling when I finished this book! Like, deep down, my friends figured it all out, and are living their HEA happy Kerry and Owen were so alive, so real, in the book, I did feel like they became by friends. Her, realizing her life as she was living it had been all good, but now she wanted more. Him, waiting for all the things he felt he had put on hold to happen, only to have that promise dimmed. Of course, they were attracted to each other, but that too, was put on hold until the time was right. Then the sparks flew, the sheets tangled, and the hearts engaged. Still, timing and time was off, that is, until they both realized, after making me cry a few times, life isn’t about timing, life is about living. Regrets and worries will always be there, but finding the moments in everyday things, that is what love and life are about. See, ridiculously happy that these two fell in love and worked it out <3
Once again we are in Pine Harbour and even though this is the start of a new series it feels like we are back with old friends If you haven’t read any of the previous don’t worry you won’t be lost but if I was you I would do yourself a favour and read them all You won’t get a better small town romance series. Like all Zoe’s books this flows extremely well you become fully engaged with the characters and you are sad to turn the last page
Owen Kincaid has had a very busy life and he is looking forward to finally having time to do the things he wants in life This is because first his girlfriend fell pregnant when they where only young and he did the right thing and married her that marriage didn’t last but they managed to work together to raise their daughter But as his ex wife remarried he became his daughters primary carer then his parents died and he had to step up to raise his younger brothers but finally with his daughter hitting eighteen and his brothers grown he can have a life of his own That is until his daughter drops a bombshell she is pregnant now he has to step up yet again and be her support. The only problem is this brings Kerry Humphrey his daughters midwife into his life and to say they don’t get on is an understatement but when Kerry realises that is surliness is actually shyness and that he is crushing on her things change. Kerry is baby hungry herself and a night of passion with Owen changes everything but can they have a future when she wants to settle down and he wants to escape. You will have to read to see but make sure you have the tissues handy because you are going to need them
