Overall, this was a good thriller that kept me turning the pages. The first half of the book was a bit confusing with too many alternate story lines introduced that seemingly had no connection. Once the connection was clear, the book flowed much better. It did have some twists that surprised me which I always appreciate in a thriller. I would definitely read more by this author.
The overview of The Killer Inside promised a dark and twisty thriller, but I felt disappointed. Cass Green was attempting to shift questions on who really is the “killer inside” back and forth between the husband and the wife, but it was quickly clear to me who the “killer inside” was. The story is told by husband Elliott and Irene, whose son has died, with a mystery narrator in italics every once in awhile. All tellings appear to be unrelated at all to each other, and we are gradually given hints at how both are connected. Elliott’s actions and reactions made it hard for me to connect with him. The story moves too slowly, and the ending was disappointing for me. I am glad I finished it, but I just needed to get through it.
This book was SO weird.
For the first half I had no idea how Elliot and Irene’s stories were going to intersect and the whole thing moved so slowly that I almost DNFed more than once.
But, as several reviewers have noted, once it goes it really goes and it was goooooooooooooood.
**I listened on Audible and the narration was superb.
Excellent story. At times, I thought that I had figured out how it would end, but I was a bit off the mark. I knew from the start that I wasn’t going to like one of the main characters, and still didn’t by the end of the book. All of the characters were well developed and the descriptions were very clear. I recommend it.
This is a story about a husband and wife in a seemingly normal marriage. Each harboring a dark past, however. The husband has not revealed his past to his wife because he believes it to be more sinister than what the wife has revealed about her past. At the same time, it’s a story of a mother who has just lost her adult son in a tragic fall and whose other son disappeared years ago. An immediate connection is revealed among the wife and the two brothers. But, as the story progresses, it’s obvious that the truth behind specific events is questionable. To what extent will a clever psychopath go to hide evil deeds? This is an engaging psychological suspense that continues to build and surprise to the very end.
great book tightly plotted, excellent pace, does not drag, likable characters and then that ending you don’t see that coming you will not be disappointed with this book an author to watch for
If you want to read “Gone Girl” with different characters and settings, you’ll enjoy this book.
This book makes you wonder who else has a ‘killer inside’.
I really liked The Killer Inside.
Makes you wonder how well you know someone and how you can misread someone.
Twists and turns, some you see coming but that was the fun part.
The ending if you catch it made me up my rating to 5.
Loved the characters I was supposed to and disliked the ones that were just nasty.
Quick read as you want to prove to yourself that you were right. But are you?
