Love ruined Jared Beckett. Now, it’s his turn to devastate.
I’m not one to mince words. I only have one use for females, being burned one too many times. I wasn’t always this way. In high school, I thought I met The One, but she stomped on my heart. I never recovered.
Returning to Annapolis, my past heartache slams into me, dredging up the bitterness. I’m an expert at building walls, … the bitterness. I’m an expert at building walls, figurative and literal, but when she needs my help, I’m all in. Giving her the keys ensures I’m in control this time, even if she’s in the driver’s seat. I’m only in it to hit it and quit it, crushing her this time, no matter how much she begs for mercy. And she will because I refuse to be her victim again. She created this broken and vengeful monster, and my relentless payback is years overdue.

This outstanding story was well written with a plot that flowed smoothly from page to page and characters that were so well created with detail and depth that Jared and Kat kept me totally engaged as each page was turned until the very end!
I had a great time reading this book with the author doing a great job of developing and making them characters that I could engage too made for a great storyline that flowed smoothly.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Ren Alexander has written a 5-star book. Kat and Jared had liked each other in high-school but Jared never did what he said he would do with Kat. Now years later they hook-up again. Things do not go well for them at first since she doesn’t believe anything he tells her. They have their good times and bad time. There are different things that each one must overcome if they are to be together. Jared’s friends try to talk to him but he doesn’t listen to them. He tells Kat that he doesn’t believe in love and that he will never fall for that trap again. Kat and Jared are at her apartment one night and while they were making love Kat told him that she loved him and he said a lot of nasty things to her.
Will Kat and Jared work past their difference and get back together or will she walk away from him and move on?
This was a wonderful book and I would recommend it to anyone.

**3.5 Stars**
** I received a copy of the Keys to Jericho from Net Galley and BooksGoSocial in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. My opinions weren’t solicited and are given willingly. **
The Keys to Jericho by Ren Alexander is a hard one to review because for the life of me I don’t know how others gave it 5 stars if I struggled through the whole book wondering why Jared/Jericho was so hard for me to like. He treated his friends badly and Dad even worse so I’m sorry that bugs me a lot. Anyhow I give the book 3.5 stars and this could be that I haven’t read the other books, drank a lot or just perhaps but I just couldn’t connect with Jared.
Jared (Jericho) can’t commit to any woman mainly because his mom walked away when he was a kid but he’s a love ’em and leave ’em kind a guy. He’s heading home to Baltimore to visit his dad before starting his new Structural Engineer job in Philadelphia. He’ll party with his buddies Dash and Rio, his sister Hadley with boyfriend plus reconnecting his high school crush Katriona. They’ll fall in love and he’ll have to accept that his mom just lost out on both his kids but he can love someone and have a HEA.
I hate leaving low rated reviews so I’m giving this a 3.5 stars and hopefully when Hadley’s book comes out it will be one that I like.
I loved The Wild Sparks series, when I heard there would be a prequel, I never imagined that this is what Ren had in mind.
The story of Jericho (Jared), Hadley’s younger brother from The Sparks series. Catching only a glimpse of him in the series, I had to read this book to find out more!
Jared Beckett, a man scorn, a true friend, who believes that love does not exist and anyone that falls into it is pretty much just looking for heartbreak or is a sucker.
His 2 sidekicks, (whom I refer to as the Pony Boys,) Rio and Dash fill this story with laughter and crazy antics while trying to get Jared to open up about himself.
Such an amazing book. Ren seems to have written this book to make you feel as tho you are friends with them characters, you laugh with them, freak out with them and of course fall in love with them all.
I couldn’t laugh anymore then I did in this book, I wanted to shake that man to wake him from his state of delusion.
When this book was over… It left me wanting more…. So please Ren, don’t make this be the last we hear of Jared!!
Jared Beckett… FOREVER MY NUMBER 1 book boyfriend!
Ren Alexander totally outdid herself with this book! It is definitely not what I expected from her!
Absolutely loved Jared’s story!! 5/5 and then some!!
Will be hard to top this book in my #1spot.
The mark of a great writer is leaving the reader wanting more. I just finished Ren Alexander’s book The Keys to Jericho and that is exactly what I want-MORE. I love books that pull you so far into the story that you don’t notice how long or short the book is. All I know is that when my kindle stopped turning pages I was a little sad that the journey had ended. I have been a fan of Ms. Alexander’s for awhile and was more than excited when she asked me to beta read this book. Little did I know that this book would grab me by the heart and refuse to let go. Part of the reason may be that I see a lot of Jared in the man in my life and in several other people I know. Her character development is dead on. I feel like I know each and every one of them and would hang out with them on the weekend. The writing is smart, romantic, sensual, and funny. While sex scenes are off the hotness scale, the love story between Jared and Kat is complicated and beautiful. The plot is well thought out and while the road for Jared and Kat isn’t smooth, it is a wonderfully satisfying trip.
When Jared’s mother abandoned her family while her children were young, she had no idea how that one act would impact her children. While Hadley seems to have her act together, Jared is a mess. A man who does not believe in love, he forms limited personal attachments, even with his friends. His relationships with women have been limited and short term. The one constant woman in his life is his unrequited high school love, Kat. Both of them being awkward teenagers and not being able to communicate in school, impacted them far into the future. Even when they are reintroduced to each other more than a decade after graduation, communication was still an issue. Both of them carry a ton of regret and emotional baggage, which adds to the layers of the story.
The supporting characters give this book a lot of depth and heart. The humorous Dash is the perfect foil for the often sullen Jared. He is the bridge between Jared and Kat, being friends with both, not realizing that the couple knew each other before he introduced them. Rio is Jared’s more grounded friend. His relationship with Liberty causes a lot of friction with Jared, but there is eventually truce between them for the greater good. The reader gets a little deeper look into Jared’s family and why the family seems fragmented. I love Brenda, Kat’s mom, at the end of the book, she is hilarious. More than anything in this book, I enjoyed the transformation of Jared. There were times I thought he was the biggest jerk on the planet but when his friends and father intervene he becomes the man he is meant to be.
I have noticed Ms. Alexander’s growth as a writer. She has woven a beautiful story, with sub stories that need to be resolved. Hopefully that means we have not seen the last of the Beckett family. Dash needs a story of his own and poor Hadley needs to have her heart mended. I highly recommend this book and anxiously await the next project from Ren Alexander.
