The last novel in the Womby School for Wayward Witches Series.Clarissa Lawrence now remembers everything the Raven Queen has stolen everything from her, starting with her fairy godmother, her student, and her child. In order to bring justice to the land, she will have to fulfill her contract with a Fae, seek answers from Alouette Loraline’s diary of experiments, steal the Ruby of Divine Wisdom, and accept assistance from the wickedest witch in all the land—even if it kills her and everyone around her. And this new plan just might result in death and destruction if necromancy is involved. The path Clarissa walks will either unite all Witchkin against their Fae oppressors or it may end the world of magic forever. For once and for all, Clarissa must choose the path of light or dark.

Clarissa remembers everything now, and it’s on in her motivation to take out the Raven Queen once and for all. This one keeps you wanting to read nonstop, as things are all tied up for the ending. I don’t want to say much to give away any spoilers, but if you’ve been reading through the whole series (which you should have before this book), this is where it all comes together and questions get answered.
If you don’t read the previous books in the series first, you just won’t have a full appreciation of the references and developing plot of this, Book 17. In particular, the incidents in Book 15 and 16 are continued and developed in Book 17. But if you’ve gotten this far in the series, I should hardly need to mention that.
Just a few tidbits to entice you to read Book 17:
In Part One, we find out what Clarissa forgot when she became amnesiac and fell into a coma at the end of Hex Appeal (Womby’s School for Wayward Witches Book 15), but before #16. It was very intense, and it’s no wonder she wanted to get away from the memories. There were many surprising and unexpected revelations about what actually happened.
In Part Two, we pick up just after the end of Safe Hex: A Hexy Witch Mystery (Womby’s School for Wayward Witches Book 16). Clarissa is crushed under the guilt of what happened, but determined to exact vengeance for the wrongs that the Raven Queen committed. We find out how Alouette Loraline really destroyed Womby’s, and other details of previous episodes are clarified. How Clarissa and her friends manage the almost-impossible task of defeating the Raven Queen is the story in this book. Truths come out, secrets are revealed, true friends are found. I breathed a sigh of relief at “THE END”.
Warning 1: If you have not the previous books, YOU MUST DO SO. you will not follow this story line otherwise.
Warning 2: This is not a kids book. DO NOT LET THE COVER FOOL YOU. This book in very simplistic terms is an extremely adult Harry Potter type book.
I love the addition of the Asian culture of magic in this book. Loving what is means and how precious it. We all have a Ruby of Wisdom. Just how do you use yours?
BOO HOO. BOO HOO. I do not want this series to end.
I cannot see how this is the end of the series. I want to know what happens with all of her students. How does her baby(ies) grow up? What happens with the red affinities? What bout Vega, the Fae, the school, etc.. See just so many questions left to answer. Maybe a spin off in the future?
I now have all the books and am planning to read them in order. I started about book 4 in the series. I am seriously looking forward to reading them in order finally.
This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.
The end to a wonderful, fun series (or will it be?). I’ve enjoyed the whole series and look forward to what will come next.
Clarrisa has been in a coma she is not sure how long and she can’t get an answer to her many questions, not even Thatch will explain anything so what is a witch to do. She will do her best to recall or trick or spy her way to answers, that is as soon as she can get around again. While in a coma all her magic has been drained from her body and only touch magic seems to help restore it for a time, the problem is Elric seems to be the only one who has enough magic to really help her which can cause big problems for all, She will recall many things but whose baby did she hold and what happened to her fairy godmother is still a blank, what has the Raven Queen and Thatch have to do with everything. You will need to get back on that broomstick to see, This book does contain a great deal of sex but not the steamy kind.
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review
Best book in the series!
What a great end to the series (or is it?)! Clarissa remembers everything that happened. Will she be able to move past these memories? She still has to pay back her contract with Eldric to fix his magic. Everyone keeps telling her, she can’t get her magic back. If she wants to fight the Raven Court she will need her magic. Can she find a way to get it back? And what of Vega? Whose side is she really on? So many questions answered!
I received an ARC. This is my honest review.
That was EXCITING! I couldn’t put it down! Vega really surprised me and had me on the edge of my seat. I had no idea what was coming and I loved every surprise! I can’t wait for the next book to find out what happens!
Joy of Hex is a wonderful, tie-it-all-up-with-a-big-pink-bow end of the Womby’s series! Clarissa and her husband, Felix Thatch, were drained of their magic by the black-hearted Queen of the Raven Court in book 15 of this series. The Queen even took their baby, turned Clarissa’s fairy godmother into an oak tree, and put Clarissa into a long coma. In Book 16, everyone is trying to restore their magic and Clarissa’s memory. Now, in Book 17, they’re told their magic is too far gone and won’t come back … ever. But Clarissa’s memories have returned, and she’s out get her magic back by herself … and plotting revenge against the evil Queen. And what a plot is is! She builds her magic to epic proportions, transcending her former abilities, and has an epiphany. She recruits all of her Womby’s friends — teachers, workers and students — to take part in the grand scheme. But things start to go wrong the minute they arrive at the Raven Court. The death toll begins to accumulate. Can she salvage her plan, even when her magic begins to flag? This book is a steamroller-roller coaster finale. My advice to you is to read this perfect ending to the Womby’s series. You might even feel some magic yourself!
